Alexander stood at the entrance of the gardens silently. He didn’t exactly plan out his meeting with Hephaistion under these new circumstances. So he silently stood there and watched Hephaistion interact with Teodor. Hephaistion was sitting down on the grass. Alexander saw Teodor bring Hephaistion newfound plants in the garden numerous times. Once Teodor handed the plant to Hephaistion he would sit down in front of him with a curious face and a big smile. Hephaistion would tell him a little something of each plant he brought and even made up stories about them to entertain Teodor with. After Teodor listened to every word Hephaistion said, he would run off into the gardens to find something new to give him.
Alexander watched this for some time. He was amused by it. He never imagined Teodor would walk, well at least he thought he would be the first to see his son take his first steps. He also couldn’t believe that Teodor could talk, the voice seemed unreal. He could hear him faintly over the wind that blew softly through the air. He heard his laughter; he didn’t imagine he would laugh that way. No.
He thought of things to say to Hephaistion. How it wasn’t his fault that the children died, that he missed him so much, that he would stay longer and wouldn’t vanish for three years. He contemplated everything that he could say.
Hephaistion sat absolutely still, he could feel a hovering presence above around him. Not one of any life threatening concern but one of love and compassion. He slowly stood up and turned around.
Alexander.
Alexander saw the expression on Hephaistion’s face. This was the time to go to him.
Alexander slowly walked to Hephaistion.
They stood face to face.
Alexander embraced Hephaistion, “Oh gods how I missed you so,” he whispered into his ear.
“I’m so sorry Alexander,” Hephaistion replied.
“Shh, its okay Hephaistion, its okay,” he said soothingly.
They both stood there, holding each other as if to let go meant they would never see each other again. They both inhaled each other scent, which brought back memories of intense lovemaking. They remained this way for quite some time, until Hephaistion felt a tug.
“Mommy, who is that,” Teodor questioned.
Alexander reluctantly let go of Hephaistion and knelt to be on the same eye level as Teodor.
When Alexander did this Teodor hid behind Hephaistion.
“Mommy,” he whined.
“Teodor, I am your father,” Alexander said in a soft voice.
Teodor fully hit behind Hephaistion, “Mommy!”
Hephaistion knelt, “Teodor, what is wrong?”
“I don’t like him mommy, he is scary.”
Alexander stood up, he was devastated his son thought he was scary.
“Teodor, remember those stories I told you about the brave man that fought off all those soldiers,” Hephaistion questioned.
Teodor nodded his head in agreement and buried his face into Hephaistion’s chest.
“Well that man is your father, and your father is standing right here. You are making him sad by saying he is scary.”
“I don’t care! I don’t want him!”
“Teodor…”
