Home at Last
Chapter 5: Home at Last

Mia sees the figure lying on the bed and realizes that it’s indeed Dom, her dear brother.
‘He’s dreaming’ she thinks, as she watches him toss and turn in what seems like a very disturbing nightmare.
“Dom” she whispers trying not to startle him, but to no avail.
“Dom its Mia wake up” sounding a little more stern now she moves closer.
“Jesse, no! Mia get down” Dom says in a frantic voice, still asleep .She can see in his face that this dream is causing
him pain. She makes a quick vision check on him making sure he isn't hurt and she becomes desperate to wake him up.
“Wake up! Dom, please!” she yells as she grabs him by his shoulder. In what seems like an instant he jumps up, pulls a
gun from under his pillow and grabs Mia by the neck, holding the gun tightly to her head.
Mia looks in his eyes and sees nothing but fear, pure terror.
“It’s me,.............. Dom, your sister, Mia” she says in a pleading voice.
“Oh my God!, Mia” Dom says realizing what was happening. He drops the gun and embraces her like he was scared to let
her go.
Mia just sits in silence with tears in her eyes hugging him back in what seemed like forever.
The phone rings breaking the silence and startling the both of them. Mia tries to compose herself, reaches out and picks up
the phone.
“Hello?”
“Hey Mia just calling to let you know we got home alright, hope I didn’t wake you up” says Eva.
“No you didn’t wake me up”
“Are you ok it sounds like you’re crying Mia”
“I’m fine trust me, I’ll call you tomorrow and tell you all about it, OK?”
“Sure Mia, later”
Mia hangs up and looks at her brother who is just staring at her.
“I thought I’d never see you again,” Mia says looking at him as if for the first time.
“I’m sorry for running out on you like that, I was........lost I needed some time to clear my head” Dom looks down ashamed to look her in the face.
Mia just nodded, she knew things had been hard for him too, hell maybe even worst. But her brother was back and that’s
all she cared about. They sat in his room and she told him about Jesse and that he was ok and working back at the garage
with the guys. She told him how Letty had to move back with her moms,
“Letty!.................. I fucked up with her Mia I should’ve been there for her and Jesse”
Mia reaches for him so she can look into his eyes and says, “They don’t blame you Dom they love you, we all do,
It’s been hard on all of us”
Dom looks at her with apologetic eyes and says “ From now on I’m not taking you guys for granted, I’m not gonna
dwell on the past........ we’re gonna be a family again”
Tears are coming down Mia's face now but still manages to say, “Good, I don’t know how much longer I could’ve put
up with Leon and Vince hovering around me all the time”
They both smile and hold each other.
