Chapter5: Elizabeth Confesses Her Love For Jack
Elizabeth sat down on the first step of the staircase and Will reluctantly joined her. Her voice was hoarse as she spoke. “William, I never meant to hurt you, you know that right?”
“I suppose. That’s what your letter said anyway.” She grimaced knowing that she deserved any bitter remark he sent her way.
“I tried to make myself love you the way you loved me but I just couldn’t.”
“Because you couldn’t forget him?”
“Yes William, I tried to forget him but my heart wouldn’t let me.”
“Who is he Elizabeth?”
“Why must you do this Will?”
“Because I know a lot of men, so I need to be certain of who has pretended to be my friend while they were after my wife the whole time.”
“I am the one who has wronged you Will.”
“Give me his name now Elizabeth. I’ll not have you avoiding it any longer.” She sighed heavily knowing that Will would not abandon his quest to know the name of heart’s desire.
“Will this make things easier for you William?”
“Yes. I want to know the name of the man that has betrayed my trust.”
“You know him well William. He was the man who told you about your father’s secret life as a pirate.” Will’s heart throbbed painfully in his chest. Somehow he had known all along that Jack Sparrow was the man that held his wife’s heart.
“Give me his name Elizabeth.”
“His name is Captain Jack Sparrow of the Black Pearl.” Will’s shoulders slumped as Jack’s name fell from his wife’s lips. He could clearly hear the devotion in her voice when his name rolled off her tongue.
“So you’re in love with Jack Sparrow?”
“Yes. I’m sorry William.”
“It doesn’t matter now. Does Jack know how you feel?”
“Yes.”
“And does he feel the same for you Elizabeth?”
“Yes Will, Jack loves me.”
“So you’re running off to be with Jack then?” Elizabeth nodded and then gasped as Will grabbed her shoulders roughly.
“William you’re hurting me!”
“Why should I care if I hurt a woman who’s in love with another man?”
“Please let go!”
“Oh no, you’re not leaving me Elizabeth, not to run off with Jack Sparrow!”
