Friendships and BBQ's pt. One

Author's Note: I don't know shit about cars so this technical lingo is probably all wrong. Sorry!

"It has direct-port nitrous injection and a NoS fogger system." Jesse muttered, looking up from the engine in front of him slowly.

"So is it going to win?"

Dom walked towards the Toyota and peered into the engine.

"After about ten grand." Jesse explained, looking over at Lora.

"Next time I get a ten grand check from the Burger Barn I'll pass it over." She muttered, pushing herself off the building wall.

"Put it on my tab at Harry's," Dom started, turning to look at Lora. "You race this weekend but you better win or else I'll kick your ass." He teased, pointing at her with his wrench.

"Oh, is that a promise Mr. Toretto?" Lora asked, now standing beside Jesse. "I'll get Letty to kick your ass." She added, as Letty and Mia walked into the garage.

"Dom givin' you trouble, girl?" Letty elbowed Dom in the side as she walked past.

"Always." Lora assured, closing the hood of her car.

"You just better race to win." Dom muttered, walking off into his office to finish up the paperwork.

Lora grinned, turning towards Mia. "Are you sure you don't want to come with us,ty?\ty?" She asked, receiving a nod from Letty.

"You know I don't get into that girly shit, Mi. Just point me towards the machine."

Lora and Mia laughed at Letty's tough act, walking towards Mia's blue car.

Jesse remained quiet, watching as Lsat sat down beside Mia in the passenger’s side and put on her sunglasses. He held his hand up in a short wave as they sped off down the street to shop, leaving the garage in their dust.

"I think someone's fallen', fallen'.... fallen'..." Letty echoed through the garage, watching as Jesse stood lost in thought - staring into the vacant space that once held Mia's car.

Lora sat her soda down on the table, looking up at Mia.

"I've never felt like this before." She started, leaning back against the chair. "I've only known him for a month - but it's like.. when he looks at me, he sees me like no one else ever has."

Mia smiled, "That is so sweet."

"No it's just corny.." Lora corrected, running a hand through her hair as she sighed.

"We are having a BBQ tomorrow night. You are defiantly coming and I wont take no for an answer."

"Well with a threat like that.." Lora teased, standing to her feet.

"I want to check out that new racer store across from JCPenny's."

Mia stood up and they walked off down the mall.

"I'm glad Mia invited you.. I was going to but you know, it slipped my mind." J mut muttered, watching Lora as she lowered herself on the creeper and slid underneath her car.

"Yeah, that's what guys always say, 'I'll call you, don't call me'." Lora teased, smiling over at him as he slid next to her. "Alright, Einstein.. teach me." She added, pointing to a large pipe above her head.

Jesse moved his head to the side to get a better view and took Lora's hand in his, extending her index finger.

"This is the fuel injection pipe, it connects to your gas pipe and hooks to the motor and the NoS injectors." He explained, linking his fingers with hers as they moved down the body of the car. "Mostly everything has to do with the engine when racing. Dom's going to take out the block and customize it for the race Saturday. Mostly imported parts from Japan and a few NoS canisters from Harry's."

Lora turned her head to the side and looked at Jesse,

"You can't remember to invite me to the BBQ but you remember everything you've ever learned about cars."

They looked at each other for a long, uneasy minute.

"I wanted you to be here.. Mia just got to it before I did." Jesse muttered, letting his eyes roam down her face and fall on her lips.

"I wanted to be here." Lora assured, quietly as he leaned in towards her.

Their lips were inches apart, causing Jesse to lick his own in anticipation.

"Yo, Jess! Let's eat!" Leon yelled through the empty garage, causing Lora to yelp and jump up - only to smack her head on the car.

"Shit.." She muttered, falling back down on the creeper quickly.

"Are you alright?" Jesse asked, laughing with her as he slid out from under the car and pulled her with him.

"I think so.." Lora muttered, holding her head as she sat up slowly.

Jesse brushed away her hand and inspected the slight bruise on her forehead, "I think you'll survive." He assured after a moment, gently kissing her head.

Lora smiled sweetly and allowed him to help her to her feet,

"We better get outside before Vince eats all the food."

"You're crazy, that Charger can beat a Toyota any day." Dom snapped, looking up at Lora as she walked into the kitchen.

"Dodges are the worst, brotha. They break down, hell Jesse's Jetta could beat that Dodge on a bad day." Vince went on trying to support his theory that 'Dodges look nice but there's nothing under the hood'.

"Yeah, well I could beat your ass on a bad day too, V." Jesse smirked, laughing with the others as he helped Mia carry a stack of dishes outside.

"You ready for this Saturday?" Dom asked Lora as she handed him a plate of chicken - they were now standing beside the grill.

"As I'll ever be." She assured, sitting down at the table with Jesse as he shuffled a deck of cards.

"Promise not to blow us off the map with that lead foot of yours?" Dom added, with a laugh.

Lora rolled her eyes and turned her attention to Jesse, "I race tomorrow - we party. Here's the thing... if you Sat Saturday, we party again. If not, I kicn grn grand out of your ass." Dom teased, placing a piece of chicken on the grill.

Lora turned her head to look at him, "I won't lose." She assured, dealing the cards.
