Path To Betrayal
Chapter 4: Path To Betrayal
A/N: Deacon brings Leorah back to the mansion where he and his fellow vampires live. Will she give in to his seduction or will she find a way to change her seemingly ill fated destiny?
Deacon roughly jerked Leorah out of the seat they had been sitting in when the subway train came to a stop. After getting off the subway he quickly dragged her up the stairway that led back up to the noisy and bustling streets of the city. Leorah tried to twist out of Deacon’s grasp but her actions only served to make him yank her tighter up against his side. “Stop fighting me angel and things will go a lot smoother.”
“Just let me go Deacon. Do you really want Blade to come after you for kidnapping me?”
Deacon gave a dry chuckle as he stared down at Leorah with his almost hypnotic ice blue eyes. “Please don’t insult me, I’m not afraid of Blade. Let him come for me. By the time Blade realizes you’re missing it will be too late because I will already have what I want.”
“And what is that exactly?”
“Don’t be so impatient, you’ll find out soon enough love.”
Suddenly Deacon stopped abruptly in front of a large black wrought iron gate. Behind the gate stood an enormous and rather sinister looking gray stone mansion. All of the windows were sealed shut and the heavy ink black draperies that hung from them were drawn to keep out the offending sunlight.
“What is this place?”
“This is home sweetheart, get used to it.”
As if on some sort of command the wrought iron gates opened beckoning Deacon and Leorah inside. Leorah’s smoky gray eyes darted around the grounds of the eerily silent estate to see that the gardens were filled with blood red roses and nothing else. On the ledges of the two terraces she easily recognized the silhouettes of gargoyles that were poised as if they could take to the skies at a moment’s notice.
Deacon led Leorah up the dark cobblestone walkway until they came to stand before two huge wooden doors that were painted a dark charcoal black with heavy pewter handles adorning them. He reached out and grabbed onto one of the pewter handles and pushed open one of the heavy doors. Placing a hand on the small of Leorah’s back Deacon none too gently guided her into the dark mansion. Once inside the pair was greeted by a young woman who looked to be about the same age as Leorah.
She was dressed in a pair of tight black leather pants that looked as if they were about to burst at their seams if she inhaled too deeply and strapless silk shirt that was a lovely shade of violet. The top seemed to accentuate the young woman’s generous curves and compliment her creamy milk white skin. Her hair was down and it framed her angelic looking face perfectly. It was thick and a dark coffee bean brown color that seemed to make her already pale skin glow almost in an other worldly sort of way. Her eyes were a striking violet that seemed to burn right through whatever it was that she looked at.
“Deacon you’re back darling!” Turning her attention away from Deacon and onto his guest Leorah noticed immediately that the smile quickly melted from the young woman’s face. “And tell me Deacon, who’s your friend?”
“Hello Serenity, this is Leorah, she’s my guest. Please be a good sport and keep her company while I go and get the room that Leorah will be staying in prepared for her?”
“Of course Deacon, is there anything else that I can do for you?” Leorah didn’t miss the way that Serenity smiled suggestively towards Deacon.
“No that’ll be all for the moment Serenity.”
No sooner than Deacon had left Serenity alone with Leorah the young woman turned around sharply. “Now that Deacon isn’t here let’s get a few things straight between us. I don’t know what little game Deacon plans on playing with you, but he belongs to me, so don’t even think about getting serious with him.”
“Look I have no intention of being serious about Deacon, I don’t even belong here.”
“You’re no vampire. Oh my god what the hell is Deacon doing bringing a human here? Unless he’s planning on turning you into one of us? And you’re absolutely right sweetie, you don’t belong here. Deacon is going to marry me, it’s just a matter of time before he finally sees that we’re perfect for each other.”
“Look I don’t want any trouble okay? I just want to get back to my normal life, can you help me escape?”
“No way in hell honey. I may not want you around Deacon, but I’m not about to go behind his back in any way.”
In a few minutes Deacon returned and Serenity quickly plastered a fake smile across her pretty face. “Okay Leorah let me show you where you’re going to sleep.”
Before she could reply he was dragging her behind him down the long hallway that was filled with doors. Finally they came to the room at the end of the hallway and Deacon pushed open the heavy black wooden door. Once inside the room Leorah saw how enormous the room really was. There in the middle of the huge room was a large king sized black wrought iron four poster bed that was decorated with blood red silk sheets and what looked like a hundred pillows.
To the right of the bed there were two steps that led down to the large oval shaped spa tub made of black marble. The jets were on and Leorah could make out the wisps of white steam that were slowly rising in the cooler air of the room. “This is where you will be sleeping Leorah.”
Behind them she heard a small and very sharp intake of air. Leorah turned to see a very pale and rigid looking Serenity standing behind them. “Deacon can I speak with you alone for a moment?”
“Can it wait Serenity?”
“No it cannot!”
“Fine! Step out onto the terrace. Please excuse me Leorah?”
She nodded silently and watched as Serenity and Deacon walked out onto the terrace. After they had exited onto the terrace she tiptoed over to the door that had been left open just a crack to hear what was being said.
“You’re letting that girl stay in your room Deacon?”
“Yes is there a problem with that?”
“Of course there’s a problem! You’re supposed to be courting me Deacon!”
“No Serenity, you simply think that just because your parents are members of the vampire high council that I will be coerced into courting you.”
“Why won’t you just marry me Deacon? Am I not pretty enough for you?”
“No Serenity, the way you look has nothing to do with it.”
“Then tell me I’m beautiful Deacon!”
“You know that you are Serenity, do you really need to hear it from me?”
“Yes I do. I want to hear you say that you think I’m beautiful.”
“I do think you’re beautiful Serenity you know that. Now please can we just drop this?”
“I’ll drop it when you agree to marry me.”
“That isn’t going to happen Serenity.”
“Then neither is me dropping the subject of us getting married. You told me once when you first came here that you would make me your wife one day. Do you remember that Deacon?”
“Yes.”
“Well you had better honor your word!”
Then without another word Serenity launched herself into Deacon’s arms catching him by surprise. She quickly backed him into one of the wrought iron chairs on the terrace and straddled his hips. Deacon grabbed Serenity’s hips in an attempt to push her away but she crushed her lips against his own roughly. At first Deacon tried to fight it but then he eventually gave in and returned Serenity’s kiss. Serenity rocked her hips against Deacon’s lap trying to make him see things her way. Deacon finally regained control of his senses and pushed Serenity off his lap.
She smirked down at him devilishly when she saw the evidence of his beginning arousal. “You bitch!”
“You like it. Don’t even try and pretend that you don’t Deacon. I’ll be waiting when you decide to change your mind, you know which room is mine.”
He scowled at her back as she walked away like she had just won some sort of victory. When he had managed to control his bloodlust that had nearly reached the point of boiling over he walked back inside the room where Leorah was sitting on the edge of the bed waiting for him.
“Where’s Serenity?”
“She left. What happened out there Deacon?”
“Nothing. Nothing important anyway.” He grinned as he walked over to the bed. Deacon stopped when he came to stand in front of Leorah. She looked up at him with wide smoky gray eyes that seemed to become glassy with fear. He reached out and gently touched her face with the back of his hand. Leorah shivered under his touch as his fingers danced along the column of her slender neck until they came to rest just above where her white gold cross necklace lay.
Leorah inhaled sharply when Deacon’s thick fingers grasped her cross and lifted it to examine it more closely. “Hmmm a religious woman I see?”
“Not exactly. I just liked the way it looked that’s all.”
“Well I like the way it looks on you Leorah. It almost gives you too much of an innocent look, almost enough to make me feel unworthy of touching you.”
“Then don’t touch me.”
“I said almost angel, almost but not quite.” She felt her breath catch in her throat when Deacon leaned down and sucked on the soft flesh of her neck just above her collarbone. Then as quickly as his lips had touched her skin they were whispering in her ear. “Don’t worry love, we’ll have plenty of time to get to know each other better.”
“Go to hell!”
“I’m sure I will sweetheart, but in the meantime I think I’ll entertain myself with you.”
Deacon flashed her a devilish grin before he stood back up and walked towards the doorway. Leorah flopped back onto the bed and gave a long sigh when she knew that he had left her alone. She silently cursed herself for the dull throbbing ache that had started between her thighs when Deacon had touched her. How the hell was she going to change the outcome of her destiny if she could hardly keep her body under control when Deacon touched her?
