Over the next few days I didn't see Shadow at all. She must have been busy or shy because she didn't call me. But I heard about her plenty from the locals. She seemed to be the topic of conversation and any conversation she was mentioned in was not a good conversation. The worst I heard was from two old women about four days after I met Shadow. I was standing behind the counter when I couldn't help but hear these two women's conversation.
“I think she's trouble,” the one that looked older said. “Just look at the way she dresses.”
“I know what you're talking about Maggie,” the younger one said. “And if the rumors are true she is never better than her father.”
“Very true,” Maggie said. “I won't let my grandchildren out by themselves.”
“Good move,” the other woman said. “I told my daughter to keep a good idea on her kids. I heard the police talking and they said that this girl had a lot of paper with the police.”
“Bad blood that girl,” the older one said.
I didn't pay attention to the rest of their conversation because I had food to get to a customer. Those women didn't have the right to talk bad about someone they barley knew. The only thing I had against Shadow was the fact her father seemed to have been Freddie Kruger. Maybe she really wasn't a bad person. I didn't have any time to think about it because another customer was calling me. I did however decide that the only way to get over this fear of her would be to get to know her.
