Chapter 25 - Fight For Survival
“Gents our hope is restored.” A general cheer went up and it didn’t take long till the crew on the Interceptor was either dead or tied to the mast of the Black Pearl. Bo’Sun dragged Jack from the mast and clamped his wrists in irons holding him tight. There was still the sound of sword play when Barbossa returned from his cabin, and he glared across at the other ship where Oria was easily matching five pirates with a sly grin.
Everyone stood for a few minutes while the six duelled rashly, Oria spun and kicked two across the jaw knocking their heads together and sliced the other two across the stomach. She grinned and sliced the throat of the last, all five stumbled backwards for a few seconds to regain their breath and anger. She spun her blades expertly and didn’t give them chance. Barbossa glowered at the arrogant display the female was putting on with obvious ease and exaggeration of fluidity.
“Bit of a handful isn’t she?” Jack grinned as the man turned to glare at him before turning his gaze back to the fight; Oria had two on the floor and was merely dancing around the other three. He growled.
“Enough!” The group froze suddenly, Oria stepped away with a grin.
“You willing to deal?” He laughed loudly and nodded to a pirate who slipped onto the Pearl silently and unnoticed.
“You lot take care of the powder magazine, I’ll deal with the girl.” Jack winced as Oria spun her blades arrogantly to intimidate Barbossa as he drew his own and tilted her chin arrogantly. Her grin was firmly fixed on her face.
“Come on then, let me see what you’ve got.” She whispered threateningly as she sank herself lower to get a firmer base of balance as he stepped forwards and they circled assessing the others form intently. Her arrogant smirk was still firmly in place. He gave a preliminary parry and she blocked easily and reposted with equal gentleness, he parried and dodged as she swung one blade down either side of his body. He lunged and she blocked, they were still moving slowly as they tested the others’ capabilities, “Come now Captain Barbossa.” She pouted, “I’m not in the mood for a jig, a samba, a waltz or any other form of dance. Stop prancing about and start fighting won’t you, I’m getting bored.” She drawled lazily.
She lunged suddenly to his left only to flip her balance at the last minute and slam her blade into his right hand side. He gave an angry cry and began to really pound his sword against hers, she laughed and dodged backwards.
“Much better form Captain, shame it’s still like a lady though.” He growled and sent a powerful blow sending vibrations down her arm; she dropped her blade as her wrist gave way at the impact. She was forced to leap backwards again as his blade threatened her belly.
He swung right and she parried with her left continuing through with a round house kick at the same time, he ducked as it swung over his head ruffling the feather on his hat. Clasping her sword with both hands she sought to force him backwards, he refused and parried violently sending her stumbling backwards instead. Her heel caught on a rope, Jack cursed loudly causing the Pearls’ crew to laugh and his own to look slightly paler as it appeared she was going to fall.
She fell sharply only twisting at the last second to land on her hands; she contorted her body and lifted her feet over her head. It left her with her back to Barbossa and he took advantage sending a lunge, she rolled suddenly twisting mid-roll and rising smoothly onto her knees, she blocked his downwards swing and swiped at his legs.
He bounced backwards as she leapt back up to her feet. Seeing her path she bounced up onto the railings one arm outstretched slightly for balance as Barbossa swung violently, she blocked several times and he swung his sword lower. She jumped and landed with a sway, he swung again before she could catch her balance forcing her to leap again, she landed more awkwardly and her feet went from under her.
Her hands flew out and she caught hold of the railing and landed on her chest winding her. She winced and leaned on one arm blocking Barbossa as she struggled to find a foot hold to push herself up with as she dangled precariously over the edge of the ship. Finding it she pushed and slipped over the other side, bruised and mildly winded but she had achieved what she had intended and knelt to pick up her other blade.
She blocked with both swords cleanly and sent a powerful kick to his jaw with a spin, her swords followed through with deadly precision, he leaned backwards slightly and blocked it with a clattering of metal. Barbossa was unforgiving in his lunges and drove her further and further back till her heels clipped the steps to the helm. She lunged violently causing him to leap back in order to avoid being skewered and she rolled under his arm. Her sword went directly in between his shoulder blades and he gave a cry of rage as he turned letting his hand catch her across the face, she stumbled slightly giving him enough time to draw her sword from his own flesh and throw it into the fallen mast.
Oria glanced behind her and ducked a swing before turning and running over to where the blade was embedded, she tugged at it but it stayed firm, it was buried practically up to mid-blade. She cursed and placed a foot on the mast to tug harder only to find herself forced to drop to the floor as Barbossa’s blade whizzed through the air and embedded itself in the wood with hers.
She grinned as she saw his was stuck as much as hers. He glared at her and tugged it free, her grin fell as she blocked. He swung several times for her stomach forcing her to bounce back several times on her toes. She blocked the last one and was knocked backwards to lean against a railing holding his blade off her throat with her own. Her chest was heaving with the various twists and quick movements.
“How are you feeling now pet? From the way your chest is looking not too good.”
“Be aware of your own health old man, your not fairing much better yourself.” He chuckled.
“You can’t defeat me Oria, best call it quits while you still can.” Gathering her strength she pushed back and watched him stumble, she kicked him soundly in the chest and watched as he fell backwards to become entangled in the rope he had tripped her over before. Running back to the fallen mast she tugged at her sword and managed to pull it free in time to cross them both over her head and stop Barbossa from splitting her skull. Pulling his sword back she slashed across his stomach as he brought his to her throat, she dropped into a crouch and kicked his legs out from under him. He gave an angry shout as he fell down again and she pressed her sword to his throat, keeping him down.
“Release them and hand over the Black Pearl.” Oria grinned down at him triumphantly.
“Not likely Missy, see I know something you don’t.” She frowned before hearing the click of a pistol and the cry of a small voice. Her eyes fled upwards to where Koehler was holding Sara, blood was pouring from her cheek and a pistol was at her temple. Oria stared in disbelief her head shaking, with the adrenaline rush she had forgotten all about her and now she was back in Tortuga watching as the drunken pirate threatened her.
Distracted by the scene in front of her she left herself open for attack. A blade bit into her side from behind and a fist smacked across her face from in front. Oria stumbled to the floor on her hands and knees shaking her head once more to clear it of the kaleidoscope of colours and images that threatened her vision.
“Restrain her.” Barbossa moved to snatch away her swords and got a sharp kick to his face; it was more instinct than anything. He stumbled backwards and drew his pistol aiming it at her heart. Jack winced visibly and clasped his hands together as if in prayer, Oria laughed lightly and spread her arms confidently as she stumbled onto her knees.
“That’s not going to do anything.” Barbossa smiled.
“No? Then how about this.”
