Chapter 4 - Thinking Time
Oria sank down in the cell and placed her head in her hands wearily. She was safe here, here she would have time to think through everything that was swirling in her mind. Why had she left him? Because she’d finally realised that she couldn’t kill him, she couldn’t threaten to kill him and she couldn’t see him die at Davy Jones hands. He stood a better chance of escaping Davy Jones torture if she was as far away as possible. If she could just distract Jones enough… for once in her life she might actually be able to save another’s instead of destroying it.
Granted at the cost of her own but she had coped this long without Jack surely it couldn’t be that hard without him. She could feel the mental image of herself shaking its head and walking away in despair, it knew better. Anything physical she could fight and defeat, but this was not her arena, this was emotion… this was beyond her control.
:/
Jack stood at the helm gently guiding the ship towards Tia Dalma’s hut. The crew were worried, he could see that. They didn’t know where Oria had gone and were worried at Jack’s reaction for her sudden disappearance.
Jack glanced down at his compass, it was still spinning erratically. He snapped it closed and went back to pondering Oria’s departure. If she had meant what he thought she had meant surely she would have stayed and been uncaring of the consequences. But then she always had dealt with things differently… and alone… but why had she left then when everything looked as if it was back on track. At least it had to him, he didn’t know what to do with himself.
Gibbs rested a hand on his arm gently, “I’m sorry Jack. I know she meant something to you… more than something.” Jack didn’t even glance at him. He was busy reliving her departure, those words that she had whispered to him… get the heart and forget. He couldn’t forget, he didn’t want to forget. He wanted her back, she wasn’t supposed to leave… that wasn’t part of his plan!
“If there’s anything you need Captain…” Jack sighed and glanced at the man, he meant well but at the minute there was nothing anyone could do till they reached Tia Dalma.
“Mr Gibbs the one thing that I need we are currently on the way to get, the only thing that could improve that is if we got there faster than is physically possible.” Gibbs nodded and scurried down to the deck before shouting at the crew to get a move on and make the ship sail ten times faster than it had before in its life.
:/
Jack crept cautiously towards the door of Tia Dalma’s hut, he was well aware that there was a high possibility that they would not be on best terms. He hadn’t visited for nearly five years and he suspected that like every woman he visited she would not be pleased by this fact. The door creaked open slowly and he smiled as Tia glanced up from her crab claws.
She smiled and stood up smoothly, “Jack Sparrow.” Jack grinned like a Cheshire cat and swayed forwards, “I always knowed the wind was going to blow you back to me one day.” Jack smiled again hopefully, with any luck this meeting would not be too bad. She hadn’t attacked him yet which was always a good sign.
“Tia Dalma. Need a small, slight favour… we’re looking for this.” He spread the key cloth on the table in front of her, her eyes raked over it quickly and she glanced up at him.
“Where did you get this from?” Jack frowned and glanced down at it.
“I found it… in a prison.” Tia Dalma raised an eyebrow.
“Indeed… Where is my little dragon?” Jack stumbled over his words and paused.
“Wait… Oria? Oria has something to do with this key?” Tia Dalma glanced at him curiously.
“You do not know of dis?” Jack shook his head dumbly. Tia shuffled back in her chair and regarded him curiously.
“What is there to know?” Jack whispered as he studied her intently.
“My little dragon has given up what she wants for what she wants most of all even if it means she can’t have it…” Jack frowned at her and Tia sighed realising he wasn’t going to get this without a bit of assistance Oria had covered her tracks a bit too well, “What does she want most of all?”
“She said her mortality but she said that that was the key to what she most wanted. Which means that it can’t be that or she wouldn’t need it to get what she most wanted, which means what she most wants is something that is entirely separate from her mortality yet only accessible through it.” Tia nodded and stood up slowly going over to her bookcase to lift a large tome free of the dust.
“What can she only truly have by being mortal?” Tia looked at him pointedly as she flicked through the pages of the book lazily. Jack watched her for a few seconds.
“Me…” He whispered, “She wants me?” Tia smiled broadly and put the book away, she stepped up to Jack.
“You did what every man in dis world wanted to but couldn’t. No matter what my little dragon says you have tamed her Jack Sparrow. She is yours.” Jack stared at her dumbly before nodding, he’d run with that idea quite gladly.
“Alright then… how do I go about getting the heart and her free?”
