drinking leads to trouble

Inside the ward room the charm turned on further. The legendary Captain Jack Sparrow was as content as a cat with a fat mouse.

“To draw up the terms of hand over of course, I will have lots more dealings with you. You see, being a privateer means that I hand you, in the royal plural of course, the boats, and you leave me to roger away with the contents.” Jack smiled a winning smile. It was unnerving to James just how convincing the smile could be. The three sat down to the table. James pushed in Elizabeth’s chair and a thought occurred to him.

“By contents do you also mean the ship’s crews? And in the vein of thought where is the crew of this ship? We had three Frenchmen come to us- where are the rest?” James shook his head to Jack’s offer of a bottle of dingy looking rum. Elizabeth had mumbled something about it being a vile and dissolute drink when he offered it to her.

Jack pulled out a bottle of the dark wine and poured both the commodore and Elizabeth hearty glasses. “Let it breathe a moment.” smiled Jack. “I always drink rum myself, no waiting. Besides grapes make wine and they become truly humiliated, far worse than raisins.” His hand waved magically around in the air. “There was no other crew, we figure they were running light on crew because a boat stocked as this one is, there is just no place for crew. They must have been going a short trip between two of the French Islands to share the new wine.” James sipped his wine and helped himself to some of the cold but cooked sea bass on the table. Elizabeth sipped her wine too but ate fruit. “Now let’s sit and chart terms of the hand over.”

By the time that James was ready to send for his seal off of the cabin of his ship they had worked through the bottle of wine and he was refilling Elizabeth’s glass. It might have been his imagination but as he poured he thought that she had never been more stunning, she seemed almost to glow, her honey brown hair almost radiated, her cheeks flushed pink like some tropical fruit, her bodice heaved ever so tantalizingly with each breath and they seemed to be coming faster and deeper as he watched. His lips felt all a tingle and his finger tips too, like each little piece of him was set afire by her and….

“Commodore!” He snapped back to the task at hand and was embarrassed to find that he had been pouring while so intent on Miss Swan that he had spilled the last of the bottle over the rim of her glass and onto the tablecloth. “My apologies Miss Swan, I shall go to send for my seal and then we can get yourself and William Turner back to Port Royale, certainly much to the relief of your father.” Elizabeth’s attention though was elsewhere. On the table in the puddle of wine was the tinniest of frogs, smaller than her little fingernail.
