Chapter 5
Dark Agent
Chapter 5
Luke stood at the hanger on Corusant. He appeared calm as he watched the JADE’S FIRE land, but he was anything but. It had been a year since ha and Mara made their relationship official.
They had seen very little of each other over the past year. Mara’s trading business kept her busy, as did Luke’s academy on Yavin IV. The next day however was a special day. It was the one year anniversary of the day they fell in love.
Luke moved toward the ship as the ramp lowered. He smiled as he saw his best friend and lover standing at the top of the ramp. When Mara spotted Luke, he face broke into a bright smile and she ran down the ramp.
“Oh Luke. I’ve missed you.” she sighed as she threw herself into his open arms.
“Gods I’ve missed you too Mara.” he whispered as he held her tight.
When Luke sat her back on her feet, he captured her lips in a soul burning kiss. Mara gratefully returned the kiss as she clung to him. Slowly, their lips parted and their eyes met once more.
“Come on love, let’s go home. I know you must be tired.” he said wrapping his arm around her waist.

Leia sat her desk going over some holopad when her comm unit came to life. She smiled when she saw the foliage of her twin.
“Hello Luke. I take it Mara made it in okay.” Leia smiled.
“Hi Leia. Mara’s fine, she sleeping at the moment. Knowing her like I do, she didn’t sleep and ate only ration bars.” Luke chuckled.
“Probably. I’m assuming you’re calling about tomorrow night?” she asked.
“Yes.” he nodded.
“Everything is set. You two be ready by 1830 hours.” she replied.
“Thanks sis. I owe you one.” he beamed.
“See you later little brother.” she grinned.
“See you later little sister.” he laughed as he ended the call.
Leia looked up as the door to her office opened and Han entered. “Ready to go honey?” he questioned.
“Yes husband of mine. Oh Mara made it in.” she answered as she stood up.
“Good. I bet Luke already called about tomorrow night huh?” he said as he wrapped his arm around Leia’s shoulder.
“Of course. I just hope it all goes well for him. Force knows he deserves some happiness in his life.” she sighed as they entered the turbo lift.

Mara exited the refresher and stopped. On the bed was a box and a note. She walked over and picked up the note. It was from Luke
Mara,
Please wear this for me tonight. I’ll meet you in the living room in one hour. Happy anniversary my love.
Luke
Shaking her head and grinning, she opened the box. She gasped. Inside was the most beautiful gown she had ever seen. It was the color of here eyes. There was also matching shoes and jewelry.
‘What are you up to Luke?’ she wondered as she carefully removed the gown from the box.
An hour later, Mara was dressed in the things Luke had bought for her. She let out a soft breath and exited the bedroom. She found Luke standing in the living room looking out the window at the city below them. She cleared her throat to get his attention.
“Wow. By the Force Mara, you look beautiful.” he whispered as he approached her.
“Thanks. I’ve never worn anything this nice before.” she smiled.
“You should. You look great.” he said.
Mara just smiled and took in her lover’s appearance. For once he wasn’t wearing black, except his shoes. He wore a silk shirt that matched his eyes perfectly. He wore tan form fitting slack and black boots. He looked as handsome as ever.
“Shall we?” he asked as he offered his arm.
The whole taxi ride, Mara tried to get Luke to give her some clue as to where they were going. Luke however, just gave her a secretive smile but gave nothing away.
“Close your eyes love.” he said.
“Why?” she questioned as she eyed him carefully.
“Please. I don’t want to ruin the surprise for you.” he answered with a boyish smile.
Mara sighed, but did as he asked. A few moments later, the taxi stopped. Luke helped Mara out of the cab, telling her to keep her eyes closed. Carefully, she felt him guiding her. She used her remaining senses to try and figure out where they were, but that was little help.
“When can I open my eyes?”
“Soon my love.”
Suddenly, her nose was assaulted by the smell of flowers. Again that didn’t help much. There were gardens all over Corusant. A few minutes later, they stopped moving She felt Luke move behind her and wrap his arms around her waist.
“Alright love, you can open your eyes now.” he whispered.
“Oh Luke!” she breathed.
He had brought her to the gardens on top of the former Senator apartments. Though the building had been converted into a museum for the Old Republic and the War, the gardens were still there. They were also the most beautiful in all of Corusant as far as Mara was concerned.
“I wanted tonight to be special. Just the two of us.” he smiled as he led her to a table set for two.
Mara couldn’t believe he had gone through all this trouble just to make tonight special for her. It made her fall in love with him all over again. As their meal was served, soft music began playing from somewhere.
As they ate, they talked about what each other had been doing. Luke’s academy on Yavin IV was going well. Slowly, the Jedi Order of the Old Republic was being rebuilt. Mara’s trading business was going wonderfully. She had really become successful after leaving Talon Karrde’s team and striking out on her own.
“I’m so proud of you Mara. You have over come so many things in your life. The prejudices of others because of your past with the Empire. Making your own way in the trading circuit. Not many people could have accomplished all that.”
“Thank you. Coming from you, that means everything to me Luke.”
Luke moved out of his chair and went to kneel in front of Mara. She turned her chair so that she was now looking down at him.
“Mara Jade, you have become an important fixture in my life over the past ten years. We started out as enemies, became friends, then best friends, and now lovers. I now can’t picture my life without you in it. Mara, will you marry me?”
Mara was speechless. She couldn’t believe that Luke was asking her to become his wife. She could only think of one word to answer him.
“Yes.”
