I don't own Batman.... I do this because I love it, and do not make any profit from this.
Changes
Eleanor was overjoyed to hear the news that The Joker had been caught. When she was told by police what The Batman had done before handing over The Joker, she wasn't so sure that was right. But she was pleased that he was now under armed guard in the hospital unit at the correctional facility.
Eleanor's police guard was no longer needed, and she felt good about being "free" again. As necessary as it was for her to be so protected, she didn't feel comfortable with the invasion on her privacy. Eleanor felt she could relax and start getting back to normal again. She was free of The Joker.
But was she? Her thoughts couldn't help but return to Jack. The Joker hadn't always been the way he was. He was once "just Jack". Just a man.
Eleanor had kept her secrets very well hidden from everyone around her, regarding her friendship with The Joker/Jack. They hadn't been friends. There had been much more to it than that.
Six years ago, she had been deeply in love with Jack Napier. And in his own strange dysfunctional way, the man now known as The Joker once had deep feelings for her too. Their relationship had been troubled and volatile, but there had been love there.
And they shared a common bond to this day. Something which NO-ONE, not even The Joker himself, was aware of.
No matter how brutal The Joker was, no matter how much havoc and chaos he caused in Gotham...Eleanor secretly held dear to her, the thoughts and memories from six years ago, before he turned into the monster he now was. The Joker frightened her. Jack, the way he used to be before he turned to extreme crime and violence, did not. If only he hadn't changed.
Four more months passed by. Elijah had had his fifth birthday, and was now in "big school". Eleanor no longer worked in Gotham City Bank - nothing to do with The Joker at all, she just couldn't handle the long hours. She settled for an easier job with a few less hours, in a women's boutique instead. Much less stress, and with the added bonus of a discount on clothes, if she needed a new wardrobe - every woman's dream!
The Joker was still incarcerated in a high security institute for mentally disturbed criminals. There was talk of him being considered for a "normal" high security prison, instead of an institute for the mentally disturbed kind.
He had been through various psychiatric observations by different psychiatrists, and he had been classed as "sane". He had schizophrenic tendancies, but wasn't actually schizophrenic. Nobody was sure exactly what The Joker "was", if there was a label or a name for it. But one thing was clear - he was in control of his actions, and knew exactly what he was doing when engaging in such violent criminal activity. There was no such thing as "diminished responsibilty" or "insanity" when it came to The Joker's behaviour. He had always known what he was doing, and he could never claim otherwise. He was literally just sadistic, masochistic, and...well, very "twisted".
