chapter 5

A/N: Sorry it has taken me so long to update this story but here is the latest chapter and I hope you all enjoy it!! Please don’t hesitate to review!!!

Mena took the carriage driver’s hand as she carefully stepped out of the carriage. A broad smile crept across her face as her bright blue eyes swept over the magnificent mansion that was made of limestone. She walked slowly up the perfectly manicured entry way at first glancing back over her shoulder to see if her governess was at her heels like she usually was. When she saw that Ms. Mistleton was still fussing at the carriage driver about his “positively horrible” driving her smile widened even more. Chuckling under her breath Mena quickly hitched up the skirt of her heavy wool dress and ran towards the front door of the mansion. Ms. Mistleton glanced past the carriage driver her eyes nearly popping out of her head when she saw Mena running with her skirt hiked up to her knees exposing her stocking covered legs for all to see. She screeched loudly her voice echoing across the courtyard after Mena.

“Philomena Anne Westover! You stop that disgusting display of your flesh this instant! That is highly inappropriate young lady!! Your father would have my head if he saw you behaving in such a manner!”

Mena didn’t even look back as she barreled through the open door nearly knocking over the butler as she burst into the foyer. Once inside the mansion she wasted no time in kicking off her shoes. Her eyes slipped closed for all of half a second her body relishing the coolness of the polished white marble floors beneath her stocking covered feet. Her bright blue eyes lit up when she caught sight of her Uncle Weatherby coming down the grand staircase to greet her. Not far behind him was her cousin Elizabeth. His hazel eyes lit up as he approached his beautiful niece.

“Mena, how lovely to have you back in Port Royal.”

“It’s lovely to be back in Port Royal Uncle Weatherby.”

Weatherby pulled Mena into an embrace hugging her tightly to him for a moment before letting her go.

“Well it’s wonderful to have you hear my dear. Now then…I’m sure that you and Elizabeth have a great deal of gossiping to get to…so I won’t keep you.”

Mena and Elizabeth both erupted into a loud fit of girlish giggling as they linked arms and hurried upstairs to the privacy of Elizabeth’s bedroom. Elizabeth shut the door behind them quickly locking it so that they would not be interrupted by her cousin’s nosey governess. She turned back around to face her cousin as she chewed on her bottom lip anxiously for a moment before speaking.

“So…what sort of trouble did you get yourself into in Nassau Mena?”

Mena shot her cousin a crooked grin as she walked over towards the terrace to look out over the harbor. Her eyes closed for a moment and instantly she was greeted with a flashback to the night she had spent with the devilishly handsome pirate that she had met in Nassau the night before she was supposed to come back to Port Royal. Mena wanted to tell Elizabeth about what happened but she had to be certain that her secret would go no farther. Deciding that for now she would simply wait to share her news about her adulterous romp with the pirate whose name she didn’t even know she turned back towards Elizabeth.

“Me get into trouble? I’m afraid I haven’t the slightest idea of what you’re implying cousin.”

Elizabeth rolled her tea colored eyes as she crossed the room to flop down on her bed in a very unladylike manner. Lying back she motioned for Mena to join her. Mena immediately flopped down on the bed next to her cousin and stared up at the pristine white ceiling waiting for something to be said.

“Oh don’t give me that tired innocent act Mena…it doesn’t fool me one bit you know?”

“I beg your pardon…I am innocent!”

“Sure…as innocent as a pirate on his way to the hangman’s noose. Now out with it!”

Mena sat up and looked down at her cousin sharply before replying shortly.

“There’s nothing to tell! Where’s Wesley? Does he know I’m back yet?”

Elizabeth sat up quickly and turned to face Mena giving her and equally sharp stare before retorting just as shortly.

“Changing the subject won’t work Mena…and besides Wesley’s already gone.”

Her blue eyes widened and her mouth fell open for a moment before she regained her composure.

“What do you mean gone? Where is he?”

“The King called him back to court on some business so he left back for London two days ago. He left a letter for you though.”

“Give it to me!”

“Alright calm down.”

Elizabeth got up and walked over to her desk to retrieve the letter that Wesley had given to her two days earlier to give to Mena. She turned the envelope over in her hands slowly as a realization hit her. A devilish grin spread across her face as she turned around and sauntered slowly back over to the bed where Mena was sitting. Mena held out her hand impatiently.

“Well hurry up…give it to me Lizzie!”

Elizabeth held the envelope just out of Mena’s reach making her frown.

“You can have it…just as soon as you tell me what happened in Nassau to make you miss the boat that was supposed to bring you back to Port Royal.”

“I told you…there’s nothing to tell.”

“And I told you that I don’t buy it…now do you want the letter or not?”

“Of course I want it!”

“Then out with it Mena…what happened in Nassau?”

Mena sighed heavily as she realized that her cousin wasn’t going to give her the letter until she told her what she wanted to hear. Looking down at her hands Mena let out another long sigh as she decided to give Elizabeth what she wanted.

“Fine…I’ll tell you everything…but you have to swear to me that you won’t tell a soul Elizabeth Danielle Swann! Swear to me on pain of death that this stays just between us!”

Elizabeth’s tea colored eyes widened as she sat back down next to Mena still clutching the letter to her chest tightly.

“Alright…I swear on pain of death…I won’t tell a soul Mena.”

Mena took one last deep breath as she readied herself to tell her cousin the whole story about the devilishly handsome pirate who had weaseled his way right underneath her skirt.
