Breakfast Guest
Chapter 6: Breakfast Guest

SUNDAY MORNING
She hadn’t real she she had fallen asleep. Mia opens her eyes, they feel so heavy and swollen from all the crying she
had done. She looked around and hoped that the nights events hadn’t been a dream.
Mia turns and sees that she is in her own bedroom. She walks softly across the hall opens the door to Doms’ room and
surely enough sees her brother lying there asleep. He must have carried her to bed after their talk.
At that moment she recalls a time when they were younger. Their mother had punished both of them because Mia sneaked
out of the house to hang out with Letty and Dom had covered for her. Their mother was the one who always scolded them
and that day in particular she even had hit them both.
Mia lay in her bed crying and Dom snuck in her room and stayed there consoling her and talking to her, making sure that
her mind was on other things. He was her comforter, her protector her hero. Although she would never tell him that. She
always did look up to him and she was confident he knew so.
‘I’m gonna make the biggest breakfast ever!’ She thinks to herself.
After washing up in the bathroom Mia goes in the kitchen and starts cooking up a storm.
‘who knows how long he hasn’t eaten anything’ another thought crossed her mind
Not long after the smell of eggs, bacon, pancakes, sausage and home fries fills the house.
Leon and Vince come stumbling up the stairs.
“mmm, mmmm, smells good as hell girl!” Leon says being the first one in the kitchen.
“Damn what’s the special occasion” Vince says in between yawns
Mia just keeps cooking with a smile on her face.
“what you so happy about?”
“I have company for breakfast” Mia says with a devilish smile.
Vince simply looks at her and to Leon, back to Mia
“Who!?” then he whispers “the girls” with a “I hope so look.”
“You wish, no, it’s a man, and he stood over last night”
“You brought a guy home last night Mia?” Leon said with a very confused voice.
“I know you ain’t bring no fool in the e...e........ right Mia” Vince says as he stands up, anger obvious in his body
language.
“Actually Vince, I know him for a very long time”. Turning away like she wasn’t interested in his reaction.
“I don’t care who the fool is, he gotta go. I’m supposed to look after you Mia, and here you go bringing a character home with you is you crazy!” Vince says punching the table.
“There you go Vince over reacting as usual”
“You know what Mia I’m going upstairs right now to make sure this cat know he ain’t welcomed here!”
“I though I’d always be welcome in my own home” Dom says as both men turn around to face the man speaking.
“Holy shit! Dom” Leon grabs Dom in a tight embrace and Dom hugs him back with a grin on his face. As both men let go,
Dom looks over at Vince who is just standing there with a serious look.
Mia and Leon can feel the tension in the room and keep their eyes on Vince and Dom after what seemed like an eternity Vince finally says,
“Welcome home brotha”, Dom smiles and they both embrace each other.
“Thanks, it’s good to be home bro” both of them wanting to say more but their egos too big.
Dom walks over to Mia and gives her a kiss on the cheek.
“ I’m starving sis ” he says rubbing his belly.
“Then lets eat” She says as she starts to serve the guys.
Over breakfast they finally start talking about what had happened and why Dom had stood away for so long. They all agree
that the past should stay were it is and it was time to start over. A new life for all of them and they were gonna make sure
things went back to normal.
“So when are you going back to the shop” Vince says to Dom
“Tomorrow, today I wanna hang out with family.................... how about a cook out”
“Sounds good to me” Leon says, and Vince nods
“How about you Mia, do you mind helping big brother out,” Dom says as he mushes her hair around like when they
were little.
With a childish smile she says “ As long as I don’t get stuck with the dishes”
