EPILOGUE

Present Day – New York CityJanine Melnitz-Spengler leaned back in her chair and eyed the last few lines she’d written. The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a graphic novel that Ray had turned her onto the previous summer. Now she had seen the movie, which alluded to a prior sexual relationship between Dorian Gray and Mina Harker. This gave Janine a great idea for her next fanfic. She smiled at her creation. It was one of her best short stories yet.

Writing smut was all she could do to release the pent-up sexual energy she had from seeing Egon all day, but having to wait until they got home to jump his bones. The writing was becoming very therapeutic and she’d become really good friends with her beta reader to boot.

Janine went searching under her desk for a floppy disk to save her ‘masterpiece’, humming tunelessly as she looked.

“What in the world are you writing?”

“Jesus Christ!” She sat up quickly, banging her head on the desk. She rubbed furiously at the sore spot on her head as lightning bolts danced in front of hees. es. Her heart had jumped clear into her throat, and she tried in vain to swallow it back down. “Dammit Peter! What have I told you about sneaking up on me like that?”

“Uh . . . something about not doing it anymore I think. I wasn’t really listening.” He smirked wickedly at her. “Considerable girth, huh?”

Her eyes darted over the last few passages of her story and her face burned with embarrassment when she spotted the phrase. “I was just . . . uh, reformatting this disk. I don’t know where that came from! It was already on it!”

“Right. So why does it say ‘Story by Jani’? Like I don’t know who Jani is!” he laughed.

She frowned at him. “Well, who told you to read over my shoulder anyway?!?”

“Uh huh.” He grinned at her, enjoying her discomfort. This was obviously something she didn’t want any of them to know about. He was going to milk it for all it was worth.

“Stop looking at me like that!”

“Like what?” he asked innocently, still grinning like a Cheshire cat.

“Like . . . like an asshole!” she fumed.

“Uh oh. Calling Uncle Petey names just makes it hard for him to fight the urge to go tell Egon that his wife writes dirty stories.”

Her face paled. “You wouldn’t.”

“Of course not,” he assured her. “For a price.”

“Name it.”

“You do all tccouccounting this month.”

“Done.”

“And I want my own personal copy of all your dirty stories. Looks like pretty good stuff you wrote there!”

And with that Peter meandered back into his office, whistling happily.

Janine watched him go then sighed and saved her story to disk. She emailed it to her beta, and went upstairs for a late lunch, pissed off beyond words that she’d helped make Peter Venkman’s day.
