******************************************************************

For awhile, they both just sat in silence; Jack on his chair in front of the table that contains his charts and other various whatnots, and Elizabeth with her back against the door, knees drawn up to her chest as she stared into space. The silence was as heavy as a wool blanket in the lavish quarters of Captain Jack Sparrow.

"How long are we just going to sit here," Elizabeth's quiet voice startled Jack out of his deep thinking. He blinked and looked over at the petite woman, but she kept her eyes averted from him.

"Tia Dalma says we be the reason the Pearl is not movin' and that we have to be stayin here until we 'talk' things out," Jack said after a minute or two.

"Obviously, there is nothing that needs to be said between us....right Captain Sparrow?" Elizabeth said quickly as her hands pulled her knees closer to her chest. Her use of his formal name was enough to make Jack look at her....to REALLY look at her, something he had been avoiding doing since his rescue from the locker. Her eyes were hollow, and underscored with dark purple, showing that she hadn't been sleeping well. Her impossibly small frame seemed gaunt as a skeleton now, her hair lank and unwashed. Obviously, she had been neglecting herself in the search for him. All the words she had said to him the other night seemed to pummel him from all sides, and he couldn't help but feel a little bit of resentment that she could stir up these feelings in him once again.

"Well Miss. Swann....what more can be said? You tricked me, kissed me, then left me to die...but then you felt bad about it and came to rescue me. I'm rescued, but that doesn't change the fact that you murdered me," Jack said quietly, finally voicing his feelings. He watched as his words made her shake, and despite the blankness in her face, a tear escaped from her eye. 'Bloody hell,' he thought as he watched her face crumble and the tears began flooding down her face.

Elizabeth covered her face with her hands and openly sobbed. She cried for all the anger she felt at herself, at the guilt and the shame. She cried for the way her and Will were distant now, and that it was all her fault. And mainly, she cried because she KNEW that everything he said was correct. She didn't deserve forgiveness by him; she deserved to be keel-hauled. "I'm so sorry, Jack!" she sobbed into her hands, still unable to look at him, or to stop the flood of emotions washing over her. After a few moments, she felt rough hands grasp her upper arms and pull her to her feet.

"Stop that blubberin," Jack said roughly, giving her a none too gentle shake. "Where is the strong Lizzie I knew, that only talked about pain when she was referrin to her corset! Where is that strong backed-boned slip of a chit that stood down fearlessly when all them guns were pointed at her as she stood between Norrington and my onesies? WHERE IS THE LIZZIE THAT WAS ON THE ISLAND WITH ME AND GOT ME DRUNK AND THEN BURNT ALL THE DAMN RUM!!" Jack's voice got louder and louder until he was shouting, and his shaking got rougher. At her tiny gasp of pain, he stopped shaking her, both of them breathing heavily. He had her pinned against the door, and still had a firm grasp on her wrists, but she had stopped crying and a glint of the woman she used to be was in her eyes. Jack noticed how close he was to her, and felt a bolt of desire shoot up his belly, but he tried to ignore it. He took a half step back, and would have let go of her wrists if not at that moment, Elizabeth Swann licked her lips, probably in an unconscious action of course. But that little movement was his undoing.

Jack slammed his lips against hers, letting go of her hands to tangle his hands into her hair. He pressed her back against the doorway, kissing her with every bit of anger, hurt, confusion...and passion in his body. And she was responding! She kissed him back just as ardently, wrapping her arms around his neck to pull herself closer! His eyes closed, Jack Sparrow assaulted her mouth with his, plundering it with his tongue before slowly pulling away. Her eyes were unfocused, and two spots of pink colored her wan cheeks, and she looked beautiful. "Lizzie," he said huskily touching her cheek with the back of his hand, leaning in for another kiss, when a knocking at the door they were against startled them both.

"Capt'n, The Pearl's got wind her in sails again! Tia Dalma says you both can come out," The voice of Mr. Gibbs caused Elizabeth to blush furiously. Jack Sparrow didn't want her to retreat back to the shell she had been living in, and gently touched her face.

"It's okay now luv.....all's forgiven," he said hoarsely, before stepping away from he to adjust himself. The kiss between them had affected him greatly.

"Jack," Elizabeth whispered, trying to think of something to say.

"Don't worry love, never happened. Just got caught up in the moment....." he said quickly as he went back over to his desk to get his hat.

"Capt'n?" Mr. Gibbs called through to door, and started to knock on it again, before it was flung open and Jack Sparrow came out. "Mr. Gibb's, find me rum. Lizzie, go..erm...scrub the deck or something," he called over his shoulder as he strolled over to the wheel of his beloved ship.

"Aye Capt'n!" Gibbs called out, as Elizabeth walked out into the sunlight. She looked...well, like she used to before the whole incident. But the confusion in her eyes... that was still there, but for an entirely different reason.

Jack looked up at the direction the wind was in the sails, and adjusted course. It was time to return to the land of the living. "This time, I hope I get to stay that way," he said softly to himself, watching Elizabeth from the corner of his eye. He wasn't the only one that noticed the difference in her look. Will Turner watched her leave the Captain's Quarters, and a dark look came over his face. He scaled up to the crow's nest to be lookout...and honestly to get away from her. The last time he had seen her look like that....was the last time he and her had kissed.

Will felt a sick turning of his belly as he looked down at Elizabeth. 'I'm losing her,' he thought to himself, 'is there anything I can do to change that?'
