Chapter 6: First Blood
Kia had finally gotten Lori to relax-ever since they’d found the picture that looked like Will, she had been flipping out and dealing with a flipped out Lori was no picnic. She sat on the front porch, rocking herself back and forth, back and forth. “It’s going to be fine” Kia said, trying to reassure both of them.
“It’s him, Kia. I know it’s him in that picture.”
“All right. Even so, we don’t know why his picture was in the stack.”
“Kia, something is really wrong here. Don’t you feel it?” Kia sighed and rubbed her friend’s shoulders, trying desperately to get her to calm down. Still, she had to admit that there was something not quite right about Springwood.
Suddenly, a scream exploded from inside Lori’s house and seemed to carry all down Elm Street. “What the hell?” said Kia, standing up and rushing into the house, Lori trailing right behind. At first, neither of them saw anything. Then, they saw it: the trail of blood that started in the kitchen and ended out back.
Both girls looked at each other, nervous terror kept them rooted to the spot. “Blake?” Kia called, her voice slightly shaking. They moved towards the back door, being careful not to step in the trail of blood. “Blake?” Kia called again, leading the way out the back door. Lori fumbled for the light-switch on the wall, her shaking fingers finally caught it. Sucking in a quick breath, she flipped it.
At first, neither one saw anything out of the ordinary, same backyard that’d both known for years. Then, they saw Blake-well, the bottom half of him. “Oh my god” Lori softly murmured, falling to her knees. Kia shook her head and took several steps back. Suddenly, she tripped-over Blake’s upper half.
Upon seeing it, she and Lori did the only thing most sane people would do: screamed and ran for the front yard.
As luck would have it, Officer Scott Stubbs was on patrol and just cruising down Lori’s when they went tearing out of the backyard. Kia spotted the car first and beat at the driver’s window. He lowered it. “What seems to be the problem?”
“He’s dead!”
“Ok. Who’s dead?”
“Blake! Someone cut him in half!”
Nodding, he pulled the car over to the curb and reached for the radio. “This is Unit 7568 requesting assistance at 1428 Elm Street. Repeat, Unit 7568 requesting assistance at 1428 Elm Street.”
Several minutes later, more cruisers arrived and tape blocked off the house.
“Here we go again” said one of the older officers.
