The Arrival of a Rival
A/N; Hi there folks! Sorry these chapters are so slow coming. I’ve been having a little bit of an issue with my flow of creativity,(and my computer..). But I want to encourage you all to keep those reviews up. I’m terribly excited that you al seem to be enjoying my little lark of a tale. I’ve always wanted to write the ending I always wished Jareth had. He’s never really struck me as the ‘bad guy’ he comes off as in the movie.I'm also terribly sorry it's such a short chapter this time. Longer next time I promise! Well, anyway, please, read, review, and recommend!
The Lady Anne was outraged, though her pale face did not betray her feelings. She smiled and spoke politely with Elisa making niceties with the Goblin Princess; after all, the way to the throne was barred by this demure little beast in silk dresses and satin shoes. What else was she to do but smile? Jareth had failed to make an appearance since her arrival, she had also seen very little of the Goblin princelings. She listened to Elisa prattle on about new china for the palace and about the new sport beasts they kept on the grounds. The little beast had told her that Jareth was ensconced with the business of a king and that she was terribly sorry to be such a poor substitute. A poor substitute indeed, she was a dreadful companion. She was so quiet and she didn’t gossip. To be completely honest, the Goblin Princess was a downright bore.
Elisa wasn’t a bore, not in any way shape or form. She was intentionally trying to run the dreadful woman off. She couldn’t stand the wretched woman, or the creature she brought with her. She looked at the wretched little creature nestled on Anne’s lap. Elisa was polite, if she were lacking in any other way, her manners, attitude, and patience made up for it. Elisa smiled and tilted her head, “Anne, I’m terribly embarrassed, but what is the name of your delightful little creature? I know you’ve told me several times before. But the little dear’s name seems to have slipped my mind again.”
Anne plastered on that sickly sweet smile of hers and tilted her head scratching the little rat like creature’s neck. “Simurill.” She said looking down at the creature, “He’s such a delight on these long journeys away from Gymbearna. Perhaps next time my dam has a litter I’ll send you one of your very own.” She said lifting the sleeping little beast and settling it on the velvet, tasseled pillow next to her. Perhaps it will bite you.. Anne thought with a private smile.
The two were disturbed by a loud and resounding crash from the main entrance hall. Elisa was on her feet and out the door before Anne could arrange her skirts to stand. However the scene that met her eyes as she entered into the hallway was not what she had expected.
Jareth smiled at Sarah as he tightened his arm about her waist, “Welcome home.” He murmered as his sister swept into the hall her dainty steps faltering slightly when she saw Sarah. Her eyes darted to her brother and then back to the honey haired human woman that stood within his arm. Elisa then threw her manners to the side as she ran and threw her arms around her elder brother’s neck with tears in her eyes. Jareth laughed and relinquished his grip on Sarah to support his sister.
Today was a day for celebrations… At least so he thought until he saw the visage of his nightmares enter the room. Anne was still here… And now, so was his Sarah. This could prove to be quite the predicament.
Anne walked with as much grace as she could muster twords Jareth and his sister and their new, very odd little guest. She had to preserve her looks of grace and elegance in all aspects, especially infront of Jareth. And if the odd little creature proved to be a nuisance, there was always one way or another to dispose of the beast. “Jareth, it is ever so lovely that you have returned, perhaps you would care to join your sister and I for tea? We were just about to sit down to a cup when your return sparked such an interest.” She said with a sickly sweet smile.
Sarah’s heart was pounding in her breast as she looked at the stunning people that surrounded her. Though she had never been called homely, that was indeed just how she felt. Homely, plain, very average, and she suddenly felt very lightheaded. She grasped Jareth’s arm for support before she collapsed and the world went dark.
Lady Anne fumed in silence in her chambers as the heavy door closed behind her. She pulled the ornate combs from her hair and threw them into the wall where they rattled and fell harmlessly to the ground. Who was this odd little harlot that had captured the attentions of the King! Anne sat heavily on the end of her bed and tugged the velvet bell pull, Moments later a demure little creature that looked a great deal like a cross between a teddy bear and a cat opened the door. ‘Yes M’Lady?” She asked her voice quiet and her eyes downcast.
Anne smirked slightly as her pride bristled, “I wish a hot bath to be drawn with Quella root oils. And I want it immediately.” She said before looking away and flicking her wrist. “Now, begone.” She said her voice cold and flippant.
Anne would take the throne; the saucy little harlot that Jareth had so unceremoniously brought back to the palace would be gone. One way or another, she would be gone.
Elisa bathed Sarah’s brow with a cool cloth hoping to bring the poor girl around. She had been through a great deal today, the poor little dear. The goblin Princess sighed as she folded the linen and laid it across her eyes. She stood and moved to the window to peer out into the garden, Jareth had made certain that Sarah had the best view aside from his own chambers. Elisa sat down on the railing and looked at the slim little human and smiled at the idea that such a little thing had captured the austere and foreboding Goblin king’s heart.
