Epilogue
Mara smiled as she finished setting the table. She and Luke had been married for six years now. The academy was even more successful than Luke had ever imagined. There were more than enough Jedi Knights to run the academy. Luke was now only needed there a few times a year.
Mara’s trading business was as successful as ever before. Like Luke, she had enough people working for her that she wasn’t needed to make as many trade runs as she used to. That left more time for her and Luke to be together.
“Hello Mara.” Luke greeted as he entered the kitchen.
“Hello yourself.” Mara smiled. Luke pulled her into his arms and kissed her tenderly. “How are things on Yavin IV?” she asked.
“Going smoothly. What about here?” he answered.
“Fine. Unless you count Anakin reprogramming 3PO again.” she laughed.
“Uh-oh. I bet Han had fun fixing him.” he chuckled.
Luke’s nephews and niece were notorious for reprogramming 3PO and other droids around their home. As they grew older, they just found more inventive ways to do it.
“Leia was furious and grounded him. Of course Jaina and Jacen were grounded as well because they put him up to it.” she added as they sat down to eat.
The Skywalkers had a pleasurable dinner. Luke told Mara about the newest members to the Order and the newest batch of Padawans. Mara listened, smiling at the look on her husband’s face as he spoke with pride about his academy.
After dinner, the two moved to sit on their balcony. Luke held her as she rested her back against his chest. As they watched night descend on the city, he began ideally playing with a strand of her red gold hair.
“I want you to take a look at something.” she said as she pulled a foliage from her pocket and handed it to him.
“Um, what am I looking at? All I see is a dark spot.” he replied confused.
“That dark spot, is our child.” she smiled.
Luke froze. He slowly got to his feet. He looked from the holoimage, to his beautiful wife, then back at the holoimage. Finally, he came out of his shock. “I’m going to be a dad?” he asked.
“Uh huh.” she nodded as she stood up as well.
Luke gathered her in his arms and spun her around. His laughter echoing in the night. He gently put her back on her feet and kissed her soundly.
“Oh Mara. You’ve just made me so happy my love. How far along are you?”
“The doctor said I’m about two months.”
Luke pulled her close and just held her. “I love you Mara Jade Skywalker.”
“And I love you Luke Skywalker.”
The Skywalkers just stood on the balcony holding one another. Both looking foreword to their future with each other, their child, and their family. A future that looked bright and full of promise.
