Chapter Six: If You Could Only See
***
A/N: Guess I only made it two parts… my bad.
***
Troy hadn’t talked much for the remainder of the week in New Zealand. He just didn’t quite get what was going on anymore. He thought Ryan loved him, but when Ryan left the room on their three-month anniversary, he wasn’t so sure. He wasn’t sure of anything anymore. Except, that is, that they were on a plane going home.
He and Ryan were sitting next to each other way ahead on the plane from Chad and Sharpay. Troy was trying to be nice and participate in Ryan’s attempts at small talk, but he wasn’t doing a very good job. Eventually, he just gave up and tried to sleep.
***
“So, wait?” Gabriella said confused. “You guys were having a good time, then he just up and left? Where’d he go?”
“I don’t know,” Troy sighed. He just freaked out, got up and left. He didn’t come back that whole night. I found him sleeping on the couch the next morning.”
“I’m so sorry, Troy,” Gabriella put her hand on his shoulder and rubbed it. “I wish there was some way I could help.”
Then it hit her.
“It’s okay,” Troy sighed again. “Maybe he’s just not in love with me like I am with him.”
“It could be that,” she replied nervously. “Troy, there is something I need to tell you.”
“What?” Troy finally looked up and made eye contact with her.
“Before you guys left,” she said slowly. “Chad told me something. He told me that he liked Ryan. And, that they hooked up over the summer after the staff baseball game at Lava Springs.”
Troy’s eyes widened. Suddenly, it all made sense. Chad suddenly coming out to him. Ryan’s random mood swings. Everything fell into place.
“Thanks for telling me,” Troy kissed her cheek and stood up. “You are a really good friend.”
Troy walked away.

Chad was in the locker room getting ready for practice. Troy walked into the area where he was.
“Hey man,” Chad said smiling. But, his smile quickly faded as Troy pushed him up against the lockers.
“What the hell?” Chad squirmed.
“So, what?” Troy yelled. “Suddenly you’re gay, huh? Then, Ryan suddenly starts acting all weird around me, and leaves right before he and I finally have sex. You two are hooking up behind my back!”
“Troy,” Chad squirmed nervously. “I wanted to tell you. But, Ryan told me that we had to keep it a secret. I didn’t mean to hurt you.”
“Our friendship is over, Chad,” Troy said releasing his grip.
Troy quickly left the locker room to find Ryan.

“Here you go,” Ryan said as he traded his French fries for Kelsi’s yogurt. The yogurt sounded better than the fries did.
“How was New Zealand?” Kelsi asked as she partook in her newly found fries.
“Great,” Ryan said. “Some complications, but it was good.”
“Hey guys,” Troy said breathily as he sat down next to Ryan.
“Hey baby,” Ryan tried to kiss Troy’s cheek, but Troy pulled back. “Everything okay?”
“Not even close,” Troy said glaring at Ryan.
“What’s wrong?” Ryan asked sympathetically, putting his hand on Troy’s shoulder.
“Stay the fuck away from me,” Troy said standing back up. “You could possibly be the biggest man-whore I have ever met, and I am sorry to have wasted my time on you.”
Troy furiously walked away. Ryan looked back at Kelsi who was totally confused. Ryan should have been confused, but he wasn’t. He had a good idea of why Troy was mad.
“What was that about?” Kelsi asked, still confused. “Did something happen in New Zealand?”
“Kind of,” Ryan sighed. “I didn’t think I was going to have to deal with it. I guess I was wrong.”
***
Troy couldn’t help but let his tears fall from his eyes. He thought strongly about letting it all out on the roof, but knew that Ryan would look for him there. Instead, he found himself in the back of the locker room. All his friend’s lockers were up toward the front, so he should have been safe to be alone.
“Troy?”
Troy looked up and saw a new sophomore on the team.
“Oh, hey Jimmie,” he sighed and rubbed his eyes. Jimmie idolized Troy from basketball to looks. He sat down next to him.
“You okay, man?” Jimmie asked. Troy didn’t look back up at him.
“You wouldn’t understand,” Troy sighed and looked away. “There isn’t really much you can do to help either.”
“Is this about that Ryan kid?” Jimmie asked, “Did he do something bad to you?”
“Sort of,” Troy said. “How do you know about Ryan?”
“You publicly announced yourselves last semester,” Jimmie said referring to the kiss in the cafeteria. “Remember?”
“Oh,” Troy said. “I guess I didn’t think about who was actually there when I did that.”
“Everyone,” Jimmie said. “Troy, I know I’m just some sophomore, but I want to be your friend. You can talk to me, if you want to.”
Troy turned to Jimmie.
“Have you ever felt that you were so in love,” Troy asked. “And, then had that person stop returning your feelings and give them to someone else?”
“No,” Jimmie said. “I can’t say that I have. But, I know it must suck. Do you need a hug or something?”
Troy wrapped his arms Jimmie’s thin, slightly muscled body and rested his chin on his shoulders. Jimmie patted Troy’s back.
“Jimmie,” Troy said pulling back and kissing him. Jimmie’s eyes widened as Troy’s lips met his. Jimmie took a step back when Troy released him.
“Sorry,” Troy said wiping his mouth off. “I didn’t mean to jump you like that.”
“Did it make you feel better?” Jimmie asked.
Troy nodded. “A little,” he said. “I just need to get my mind of Ryan. We were going to sleep together for the first time, but then I think he slept with Chad instead.”
“So,” Jimmie moved closer and ran his hands down Troy’s shirt covered chest. “Sleep with someone else too. Move on. Find someone new. Forget about that loser and be happy.”
Troy kissed Jimmie again.

A/N: So many twists and turns in this story. How will it turn out? You’ll have to keep reading to find out. Thought it would be a good idea to add some of the new HSM 3 characters, since it is their senior year, even if it doesn’t follow the movie. This story doesn’t after all. Keep reading!!!!
