Chapter 6
Nightmares and Futures
Chapter 6
Talon exited the turbolift and headed down the corridor. He had damned near burned out his engines racing for Coruscant. He entered the Solo residence. Han and Leia were waiting for him in the living room.
“Where’s Mara?” Talon asked.
“With Luke. What did you find?” Han answered.
“I think Mara should hear this too,” Talon said.
Fifteen minutes later, Mara sat between Han and Leia. Talon quickly began his story, “My contact has found not only a list of Jedi who survived the purges by Palpatine and Vader, but their families as well,”
“Families?” Han questioned.
“Yes. A few married and had children,” Talon nodded.
“How many are still alive and do they have a family?” Mara inquired.
“According to the list there were twenty three. Of those twenty three, only six are still alive. Of that six all but one has a family,” Talon replied.
The person we’re looking for is a Master Jedi,” Leia pointed out.
“That’s why I rushed over here. The one without a family is not only a Master Jedi, but my contact has discovered he was meeting secretly with Palpatine. Records show this began shortly after Vader gave Han to Boba Fett,” Talon explained.
“Does he have a name?” Mara demanded.

Mara sat in the chair, holding Luke’s hand. After Talon told them the name of the mysterious Jedi, he and Han began making arrangements. Mara was going with them.
“Luke, we found him. Han, Talon, and I are going after him. Corran will meet us there. Soon, soon this will all be over,” she said.
Luke continued to lay there. His face pale, his hair lank, and dark bruises from where the doctors had pinned him down so they could work on him were finally fading.
“Oh Luke. Just hang on. I promise, we’ll get him and bring you back. Just keep fighting. Once this is over we can be together,” she whispered as she clutched his hand.

Luke stood in front of his old homestead on Tatooine and sighed. After his last nightmare, he suddenly found himself here. He had no idea what was happening or how long he had been here.
“Luke,” a male voice called out.
“Who’s there?” Luke asked as he began looking around.
“Don’t be afraid my son,”
Luke watched as his father appeared before him. “Father? Am I dead?”
“No Luke, you’re not dead,” Anakin answered.
“What’s going on?” Luke demanded.
“You are in limbo. Between the living and the dead,” Anakin explained.
“It’s because of my nightmares isn’t it?” Luke sighed.
“Yes. As we speak, Mara, Han, and your friend Talon are preparing to go after the Jedi. You must help them my son,” Anakin instructed.
“How can I help them from here father?” Luke growled in frustration.
“Your bond with Mara. The love you two share is strong. You must focus all you love and strength on her. She will need it to face this threat,” Anakin said calmly.
“What threat? I don’t understand what’s going on. Can’t you tell me what’s going on father?” Luke asked in desperation.
“This new threat is Palpatine,” Anakin replied.
“Pal…Palpatine? Now, that’s not possible. You killed him nine years ago,” Luke gasped.
With a heavy sigh, Anakin began explaining about how Palpatine in fact had found a way to keep himself from dying. Yes, his physical body was gone, but his soul, his Force essence was very much alive and kicking.
“Mara can’t fight him alone! I barely survived him!” Luke yelled.
“Luke, she won’t be alone. With your bond, you and her will never be alone. Just do as I said and you will help Mara defeat Palpatine for good,” Anakin said.
“Will she feel my presence?” Luke questioned.
“Yes. If your bond is strong enough, you can even speak to her like you used to,” Anakin nodded.
“Then I’ll do it. Anything to be reunited with Mara and stop Palpatine once and for all,” Luke stated with determination.

Mara stared out the cockpit of JADE’S FIRE. They were still four days away from the location, a small remote planet called Lyson. Corran had joined them two days ago from Yavin IV.
“Mara, why don’t you go get some rest,” Talon said.
“Talon…” Mara started.
“No. You need to rest Mara. I know you haven’t been sleeping well. Rest, otherwise you won’t be any use to use or Luke,” Talon interrupted.
Mara just sighed. She knew if she didn’t do as Talon said, he would sedate her. She didn’t say a word. She just got to her feet and left the bridge for her cabin. Though she hid it well, Mara was the most terrified she had ever been. She knew if she didn’t defeat this Master Jedi Natrious, Luke could suffer the consequences. She wouldn’t let that happen.
‘Just hang on Luke. I won’t let you down,’ she thought as she laid down on her bunk.

“Mara. Mara can you hear me?”
“Luke?” Mara asked in disbelief.
She watched in shock as Luke emerged in front of her. Luke smiled at her. She let out a relieved sigh and rushed to him and threw herself into his arms, her arms wrapping around his neck. He just held her tight.
“Mara, listen to me. There’s more to this than you know. Yes you’re fighting Natrious, but you’re also fighting Palpatine. I don’t have time to explain everything,” he said.
“The son of a bitch did it. I heard him talking to Vader about stopping death. I just never believed he would succeed,” she gasped.
“Mara, I’ll be with you through our bond. My father says that is how you will beat Palpatine,” he explained.
“Luke, I miss you so much. I wish you were here at my side,” she replied.
“I know love. Just hang on. We’ll be together again soon Mara. Never forget, I love you Mara Jade,” he smiled softly.
“I love you too Luke Skywalker,” she sighed.
Luke pulled her into tighter into his embrace and kissed her fiercely. Mara melted into his arms and eagerly returned the kiss. As the kiss wore on, she felt herself becoming stronger as Luke’s love, strength, and faith in her melded with her own Force presence through their bond.
