The drums beat a steady rhythm that seemed to match Jessi's heart beat, or maybe it was the other way around. Either way it was calming to Jessi as she stepped into the cave where Dream Hunts took place. Sìlng and Naktang stood waiting for her in the circle of clan elders. Winuk followed her down the stairs

Jessi took her place in the center of the circle as Sìlng picked up a gourd like container. She pulled a glowing purple worm from it as she asked Eywa and the worm for a true Dream Hunt. Sìlng held the worm out and set the slightly wriggling creature in Jessi's mouth. Jessi swollowed quickly, not wanting to taste the creature any longer than necessary.

Naktang stood next, pulling Jessi's captured arachnoid from its container. He approached slowly as the creature crawled over his hand. Jessi stayed motionless as she waited. She couldn't help the cry of pain as the creature stung her.

Fire tore through her veins causing her muscles to sieze. Jessi tried to curl away from the pain, her eyes  closed as she fought against the need to cry out again, not sure if she failed or succeeded. Something seemed to snap in her mind as the beating of the drums increased, though she could no longer tell what was really happening and what was just in her mind.

In an eerie landscape that seemed a mix of Earth and Pandora, Jessi wandered. She didn't know when they joined her but she had two shadows following at her heels. Sometime later, she realized two more followed her, following in a line on either side of her.

“You're supposed to be mine” said a voice in front of her. “We always work together. We know each other. But you'd rather run around the forest doing who knows what with those savages.”

Jessi paused as she stood in the link room of the base, not caring how she got there. Her shadows still behind her.

“You need to come back before you get lost out there and Powell does something stupid” Cody said. “You're supposed to be mine but I can't go out there because someone needs to keep things working here. I can't show those savages that you're already taken.”

“I am no one's but my own” Jessi said as she stood beside Cody, looking down at her link. “I know you can handle Powell, otherwise I wouldn't have left you in charge while I'm gone. And you need to realize that I don't love you like that. You're my brother. Look to Terry for comfort. She likes you a lot and would give you what you want and need.”

Cody turned as if he heard something. “I don't know what's going on with her but don't interrupt the link unless you have to. She'll explain when she comes back.”

A figure came into view, setting their hand on the link, Jessi saw that it was Powell. She didn't like the idea of him being in the link room.

“She's lost out there” Powell said. “She isn't paying attention what the Na'vi are doing. They attacked a dozer, set it on fire and killed three members of the security detail.”

The cry of a wolf startled Jessi, drawing her attention to the shadows behind her. She knew it was a wolf because her grandfather had played recordings of the animals' calling to each other for her growing up. A great black wolf stood beside a nantang, who gave a yip. Behind the canine pair stood two large felines, though one much bigger than the other. Both looked past Jessi, growling she supposed at the two men by her link.

“Then we should return the favor” Cody said.

Past, present, or future, Jessi didn't care. Even if it was a product of her mind, playing on fears she had in regards to Powell, Jessi knew she needed to get back to the Na'vi and warn them before returning to her human body and giving Powell a good thrashing for being an idiot.

**********

“Careful Jessi” Terry said as Jessi pushed the link open. “Things are in an uproar right now. The Na'vi actually attacked our machines. Powell isn't happy.”

“I don't care if he's a step away from an aneurism” Jessi growled as she climbed out of the link. “The idiot was going to bulldoze a sacred site. If the warriors hadn't been told to take out the cameras, Powell would have.”

“How did they know to target the cameras?” Terry asked as she followed Jessi out of the link room.

“Jakesully told them.” Jessi said. “Considering I was in the middle of something when Powell pulled this stunt, it was a good thing the Omaticayayä clan leader stayed.”

“Jakesully? You mean Jake Sully? The marine that led the Na'vi against the RDA?” Terry asked.

Jessi shrugged. “If you want to look at it that way” she said as she stalked into the command center and set her sights on Powell.

The man had just turned to see who'd come into the room when Jessi caught him in the jaw. “Do something like that again and I'll have you on the first shuttle back to Earth” Jessi growled at the man cowering on the ground holding his jaw. “I told you that site was there so you wouldn't destroy it and you turn around at instigate shit with the Na'vi. Why? Because the RDA wants more Unobtainium?”

“They attacked us” Cody said. “We weren't even close to their stupid trees.” He helped Powell to his feet.

“The dozers were headed straight for them” Jessi said. “I saw the damage. I told you no closer than half a click because the Na'vi would attack if we got close.”

“You're overreacting” Cody said.

“I'm gonna go eat and take a shower before I decide you need a good thrashing too, Cody” Jessi said as she turned to go. “I set the rules when we landed and everyone thinks they're a joke” she muttered to herself as she headed for the mess hall, intent on eating and showering like she said she would.

“What are you going to do about what they did?” asked a soft voice at Jessi's side. Her mind lost in what she'd seen during her Dream Hunt she hadn't even heard the man sit at her table.

“I can't do anything if they refuse to listen to the rules I set down. Sure I could put Powell in the brig or something but it won't solve anything.”

“There's a mobil link up set up near the mountains” the mans said. “You could go there.”

“What's your name?” Jessi asked.

“Terrance Augustine” the man said holding out his hand.

“Let me guess, Grace Augustine's grandson” Jessi said.

“Yeah” he said with a blush. “My dad told me all about her coming out here to learn about Pandora and I decided I wanted to do the same.”

“You know how to run the link system?” Jessi asked.

“Debra's better” Terrance said. “She's my partner in the field.”

“Pack your bags, let the pilot know we're headed out and meet on the flight line in” she paused to look out the window “two hours. That'll give us time to get there before dark.”

“You should take a shower before we leave” Terrance said as he packed up his tray. “You smell three days ripe.”

Jessi scowled at him before following him to the trash. “My stomach claimed priority over a shower.”

Terrance laughed as he headed off to pack his bags.

I think this one came out a little shorter then the last couple of chapters but it has what I want in it and putting part of the next chapter in here, doesn't make sense to me.
