chapter 7
Sparrow loked rather pale and pained throu the smoky mist of the air, He paused in his story and let out a slow, shaky breath.
"Are you sure you're alll right?" I asked him as delicately as I knew how. "You look rather ill."
"It's been quite a while since I've chosen to reveal this information. But it is of utmost importance that I do so now," he took a swig of rum and made to continue.
"Ten years old, and already on my way to...I haven't the foggiest idea what sort of state I'm in, so we'll say on my way to piracy. The long and short of it is, I stayed on Avestruz as a fisherman's apprentice and gained the love of the sea who's arms I will never stray from. When I was seventeen, I had earned enough money to buy a boat of my own. I left Avestruz and went off insearch of a fortune, and Bill Turner. I did not dare return to my father's town, so instead I sailed the Spanish Main until one day I was attacked by the Royal Navy off of a huge city export called Port Royal. They ransacked my schooner, arrested me, and took me to there pathetic little prison. All because, it turned out, they were "looking for a bit of a laugh", and when they realized I wasn't laughing they assured me they were "making ultimately sure you weren't a pirate". Therefore, when they finally set me free, I decided to take my revenge. I gathered together a ragtag crew of victims of their 'navy', and took them on with my wrecked schooner. This was probably what really made me become a pirate. We began taking ships from everywhere, hauling in more swag than our new ship, "The Bloody Moon" could hold. After one drop at our secret cache, an enormous snow-white ship attacked on "The Bloody Moon". She sunk her, and I was the only survivor of my crew. I somehow swam my way back to the cache and removed all of our fine treasure. I was a captain, and I was gaining a notorious name for myself, but I was not yet fearsome enough to simply get off and get rich. What I need was a ship. Well, and a crew, but I was twenty years old, knew many of the secrets of piracy already, and I wasn;t too worried. I was off to the best place a pirate can go when he needs the basics. Tortuga."
