CHAPTER SIX
The next morning.
Carl woke with a start, he was not sure why, He was cold, frightfully cold. It should not be this cold this time of year. He was also thirsty, he had fallen asleep and forgotten to really do any of the normal things you do before falling asleep. He was still in his clothes from the previous night.
Quickly, Carl undressed and washed himself, fussing a little more with his hair than normal and dearly wishing that he could do something bout the wings. Ugh. When he was ready, his rambling mind stared at the door and an image weighted heavily there. Van Helsing, staring at him with hunger and desire. Raw passion had literally -flowed- from the man.
He shivered, remembering how it felt to touch his friend. His fingers twitched, wanting nothing more than to do it again and again. Good God, he was already having immoral thoughts and he had only been up for 20 minutes. Today was not going to be an easy day.
At first he was distracted by his robe getting slightly tangled in the door knob, then he was delayed for several minutes by well meaning monk who wanted to get his opinion on a new metal that they had discovered in Spain. Damnit, he did not want to discuss metal, he wanted to find Van Helsing.
“I’m s-sorry, I have an appointment.” Carl finally stumbled an apology and hurried off much to the monks bewilderment. Usually no one could get out of conversations with Carl when it came to this sort of thing.
He had no idea what he would say to the man when he found him. All he knew was that he needed to see him. Carl found the hunter’s room and pounded on the door. “Its six thirty, Van Helsing, and you’re still in bed!”
When he was met with silence, the friar frowned and pushed at the door. It opened easily and his gaze fell to the bed first, then to the rest of the room. It was empty. He wouldn’t…
Carl slammed the door shut, He had better not have.
He hurried through the Abby, asking everyone if they had seen Gabriel until finally someone mentioned that he had been heading towards the stables ten minutes ago. The stables… He had…
Carl picked up his robes and broke into a run.
He was out of breath by the time he got there. Van Helsing was standing by a horse, putting a few things into the saddlebags. No one else was in the stables this early in the morning. The excited friar rushed in and shoved the elder man away from the horse before he could react.
“Carl…what?” Van Helsing looked up in bewilderment from his new position in the hay. “Aren’t you supposed to be in the lab?” he sighed and rested his arm on his knee.
“How could you!” Carl finally found his breath, his eyes blazing in anger as he glared at his friend. “You were going to leave, without saying -anything-. Weren’t you? Admit it!”
Gabriel looked away, unable to face the expressive gaze of his friend. “I need to.” he mumbled.
“Why? Because of me. You’re not healed yet, Van Helsing, you’re in no condition to travel. You’re leaving because of what *I* did last night. You can’t even look at me! I can’t believe you would do that to me. To us. I can’t believe you would just leave. Damnit, Gabriel. Talk to me.” Carl raged, he grabbed a horseshoe and flung it down the stable. Tears were prickling at his eyes, he was so angry.
“Carl…easy.” Gabriel attempted to get up, but he was prevented as Carl threw himself on the hunter.
“If you are going to leave because of something I did, leave because of this!” He grabbed Gabriel’s shirt and fiercely kissed him.
He had never expected the explosion that occurred. A dam burst within both of them, and Gabriel could not resist the attack on his lips any more than he could resist breathing or eating. Tongues met, dueled and met again. Carl’s fingers reached up to toss Gabriel’s hat to the side and run through his hair as the practically molded together. He was rewarded by the feel of the elder man’s now hard cock pressed against him. It certainly did not take much to excite Gabriel, it appeared. The kiss left them both breathless and panting for air, Gabriel nuzzling against Carl’s neck, and the friar clinging to him. “Carl, I’m sorry…I have to go.” Gabriel said softly.
“No.” Carl rubbed himself against the hard cock, drawing a groan from the other man. “No, I want you, Gabriel. Now. Here. I know you want me. Don’t even -try- and deny it. Not after that.”
Carefully, gently, and firmly, Gabriel extracted himself from the friar. He pulled them both to their feet and forcing himself to ignore the tears prickling in Carl’s eyes. “I have been given leave from the Cardinal. My days start today.”
“Three months…” Carl bleated. “Van Helsing, please don’t go.”
Gabriel lifted a finger to wash a tear from his friend’s cheek. “You’ll be alright, Carl. Better off without me here.”
“N-no…” he whimpered, unable to hold back emotion now as he tried to stop his friend from leaning down to pick up his hat mount his ready horse. He gazed up at the hunter, anguish clear in his bright blue eyes.
“I’ll return, Carl.” he said softly, “We’ll talk then. Don’t get into trouble.”
With that, he kicked the horse with his heels and he was off, leaving Carl standing in the stable. The friar ran after him all the way to the edge of the abbey and to the gates. They opened for Van Helsing, and closed again. Carl’s fingers held onto the gates as he stared at the figure disappearing into the dawn.
