Chapter Six

Even the bravest of men wouldn’t have been able to stomach this, and Will was among the men screaming at the top of their lungs as they clutched onto anything they could hold on deck of the Flying Dutchman. He cried out in horror as he watched a couple men lose their grip and go flying over the edge of the ship, caught in the wind and sent sailing off into the skies to possibly land elsewhere in the water, as good as dead for not being able to survive a fall that high.

He couldn’t breathe; his heart was hammering like it never had before, and the wind in his face pushed too hard, making it impossible to suck a breath in as the wind stung every part of his body and tore at his clothes. Parts of the Flying Dutchman groaned and snapped off, sails went flying, and anything not nailed down was soaring off the deck and falling at a slower pace behind them.

The water was getting closer. Will’s eyes went wider as he hugged himself to the Kraken Hammer with a fiercer grip and glanced over at his father. They were going to die – falling from the sky and hitting the ocean while going far too fast to survive anything at all – and he wished then that he had listened to his father and kept himself from trusting Celeste. Whatever her reasons or intentions, she had obviously betrayed them now, releasing her hold on the ship in the sky and letting it fall to its death.

He squeezed his eyes shut as he heard the roar of water below getting louder and their final seconds were upon them. “Elizabeth!” Will cried out with his last breath.
