Chapter 7
Among The Stars
Chapter 7
Luke sat next to Mara as she told Layana about her nightmare the night before. Luke was relieved that she was talking openly about her feelings and not bottling them up.
“Tell me Mara, why did you go to Luke’s last night?” Layana asked. Luke had wondered the same thing himself.
“Well, I fell safe with him. I knew I would be safe there,” Mara answered as she unconsciously grabbed Luke’s hand.
“Is this a new feeling?” Layana questioned.
“No. I mean…yes I wanted to kill him ten years ago when we first met. But even then I felt safe around him,” Mara explained as she faced Luke.
“Master Skywalker, how do you feel about this? I mean does it make you uncomfortable, confused, angry?” Layana replied.
“Honestly?” Luke inquired. Layana nodded. “I feel happy. I ‘m glad Mara can trust me. I trust her with my life and I would do anything I could to help her,” he said as he smiled at Mara.
“I will say this. Mara is the first patient that hasn’t either denied or blamed herself for what happened. This is a good sign. It shows how strong you are mentally,” Layana surmised.
“Then why am I still scared? I get scared when I’m around someone other than Luke, Leia, Han, or Talon,” Mara sighed.
“Mara, that is part of the healing process. Actually, you should be proud of the fact that you are allowing anyone, especially men, anywhere near you. Most women in your position completely lose it around males of any kind,” Layana explained.
“Layana, would Jedi training help her deal with the nightmares?” Luke asked.
“Yes. I was going to suggest that. Of course, I would start off slow at first,” Layana agreed.
“How will training help?” Mara questioned.
“It will help keep your mind occupied. It will also stimulate your body and help you physically recover and get your body back in shape,” Layana stated.
An hour later found Luke and Mara sitting at the park near the Imperial Palace. Usually Mara felt moody and her thoughts were confused after a session with Layana. Today however, she felt calm and relaxed. Like her old self.
“So, when do we start my training?” she asked.
“When you’re ready Mara. I don’t want to pressure you if you’re not ready,” Luke answered.
“Could we start in two days?” she questioned.
“Alright, in two days. So, how are you feeling? I mean after your session?” he replied.
“I feel calm. What about you? I mean you were kind of put on the spot in there,” she retaliated.
“I’m fine. I’m glad I sat in,” he smiled.
Mara returned the smile and laid her head against his shoulder. Luke wrapped his arm around her and just held her. Both felt at peace.

Gareth growled in frustration as he finished repairing his ship. When Luke had blown the compound, Gareth had stepped outside and that alone had kept him alive.
‘I’ll get Skywalker for this, but first I will take care of Jade. Besides, I could hurt Skywalker through Jade,’ he thought as he stepped away from his ship.
“Soon Jade. Very soon you’ll get what you deserve,” Gareth laughed.
