Scene: Onboard the Black Pearl somewhere near the East Indies.
It had been weeks since Jack had brilliantly persuaded his way underneath the skirt of the beautiful and very young well to do brunette whose name he hadn’t bothered to obtain before slipping out the door while she slept after their tryst. Truth be told at the time he hadn’t really cared at all to know what her name might be. As far as he had been concerned her name could have been Calypso and it wouldn’t have mattered to him. Well…perhaps that was going a bit too far. Jack knew the sea goddess all too well and he was quite more than certain that if the brunette beauty had told him her name was Calypso he would have run screaming in the opposite direction. Jack shook his head…he was getting sidetracked with all the nonsense that seemed to constantly fill his cluttered mind. Now where was he? Oh yes…the brunette haired beauty that had somehow bewitched his thoughts. As of late Jack couldn’t seem to think of anything else but the nameless dark haired maiden whose virginity he had cleverly stolen. This wasn’t a very piratey thing to do…pining over some woman whose name he didn’t even know. That was something foolish young boys did…not quick witted pirates like himself. And for that matter…it was most decidedly something that Jack Sparrow just simply did not do.
And yet here he was…even now as he stood at the helm of his beloved Pearl…thinking about her. A scowl began to stretch across his tanned face the more he thought about the young maiden without a name. And then it started…the annoying chattering of…well…he guessed his conscience. That was of course…if he even really had one…which he was quite certain…almost…that he didn’t. Tugging at the braids of his goatee Jack squinted deep in thought. Did pirates even have consciences? Shaking his head Jack squinted harder out to sea as if he were trying to force his mind to not think about such ridiculous nonsense. But unfortunately for him…his…whatever it was just refused to go away.
‘ C’mon now Jackie…ye can’t jus’ make ‘er go away that easy.’
Jack muttered to himself under his breath.
“Not listenin’ t’ ye.”
‘Ye are so…otherwise ye wouldn’t protest like such a little girl.’
Frowning harder Jack muttered to himself a little louder than before.
“Bugger off ye bloody fool!”
Gibbs who had just come up the stairs to the wheel deck to relieve Jack from his shift at the helm stopped short when he heard Jack’s strange outburst. Glancing back over his shoulder to make sure no one else was there he scratched his head in confusion. He cleared his throat making Jack turn to look at him quickly.
“ Scuse me cap’n…did ye say something t’ me?”
Jack could feel his face turn red at his embarrassment of being caught arguing with himself.
“Um no…I was jus’…thinking out loud.”
Gibbs nodded flashing him an uneasy smile and still looking a bit confused.
“Oh…right…well then it’s time for my shift.”
Jack looked up at the sky briefly before looking back at Gibbs with a smirk and a small wave of his right hand towards the wheel.
“Ah…so it is…well I’ll jus’ get out of yer way then.”
Jack stepped aside so Gibbs could take over for him at the helm. Just as he was about to start down the stairs towards his cabin Gibbs spoke up making him turn back around.
“Ye know it’s never a good idea t’ let yerself be troubled over a lass Jack.”
Jack flashed the older man a crooked grin. How did he know? However he knew…well Jack supposed that didn’t really matter…the fact was he just seemed to always know what Jack was really thinking.
“Troubled over a lass ye say? Who’s troubled over a lass?”
“C’mon Jack…ye have been walkin’ about with yer head in the clouds an’ yer moodier than normal.”
“It’s nothing…m’ jus’ restless that’s all.”
“Restless Jack?”
“Aye…restless…I need t’ liberate something shiny…ye know do some honest pirating.”
“If ye say so Jack.”
“I do say so…so now ye can leave it alone.”
“Are ye sure Jack?”
“Now who’s sounding like a little girl?”
Gibbs frowned at Jack’s eagerness to avoid the subject at whatever it was that was really bothering him. But knowing that Jack was never one to let others know when something vexed him he simply shrugged his shoulders and turned back to completely face the ship’s wheel.
“Alright…suit yerself…I was only trying t’ help.”
“Well it suits me jus’ fine being that I don’t recall ever asking for yer help mate…now then keep yer eyes on the horizon.”
“Aye captain.”
Jack swaggered towards his cabin quickly wanting to get out of the sun and away from anyone else who might want to try and coax him into talking about what was bothering him. Shutting the door behind him he locked it and leaned back against the door for a moment. Jack let out a long heavy sigh before pushing himself off the door and walking over to the round table where he kept all his nautical charts and navigational instruments. Well he didn’t really keep them so to speak…they were more or less strewn across the table. Sinking down into his usual chair he pulled his hat off and tossed it onto the tabletop. Not even looking up from the maps he was even really looking at in the first place he reached for the half empty and ever present bottle of rum on the table. Pulling the cork from the bottle he tossed it carelessly over his shoulder where it landed somewhere on the floor and rolled away to be forgotten. Lifting the bottle to his sea and wind weathered lips Jack took a long pull from it. His coffee colored eyes slipped closed as he relished the all too familiar burn of the sweet amber colored liquid as it scorched a path down to his belly.
For a moment he almost forgot what had been hounding him…until a vision of her face flickered in his head. The frown instantly found it’s way back onto his face and his dark eyes snapped open to dart around the room. He grit his teeth as he set the bottle back down onto the table a bit rougher than he had intended to. Damn…why the hell was he still thinking about her? It wasn’t as if he knew where to look for her…or if he even wanted to for that matter. This was just ridiculous…he didn’t even know the woman’s name…he couldn’t find her if he tried. And if he were to try…would she even want him to find her? Surely not…she was born into a society that made no room for men like him. And aside from that…he had no idea where to even begin to look for the young woman. And Jack was more than certain that she wasn’t making herself miserable pining over him. Wait a minute…he was pining! He didn’t pine over anyone…much less some girl whose name he hadn’t even bothered to ask for after he had given her a good swivin’. He was Captain Jack Sparrow…and he damn well didn’t pine over any wench!
A/N: Next chapter Mena will try to seduce Wesley into taking her to bed so that she can pass off Jack’s child as his. Please read and review!!
