Almost Too Late
Chapter8: Almost Too Late
Elizabeth’s heart fluttered nervously as the sun started sinking lower in the sky. She had to reach the Black Pearl by sunset! “Driver hurry up! I have to reach the docks before sunset!”
“Yes Mrs. Turner.”
“No it’s Miss Swann now.”
“My apologies Miss Swann.” The carriage jolted forward as it picked up speed. She drummed her fingers nervously on her thigh. Her heart was racing and her palms were sweating. She was so afraid that she would not arrive at the docks in time to meet her darling Jack Sparrow. Elizabeth took the time to reflect back to when she had first met the uncouth pirate. He had dove into the Caribbean sea and saved her from a watery grave. Of course he had stripped her down to her corset and knickers to do so. Her cheeks reddened at the memory of Jack seeing her in her soaking wet knickers that warm summer day on the pier.
She had thought him to be quite possibly the most handsome pirate she had ever seen. Then he had shocked and infuriated her by taking her hostage to secure his escape. Her mind flashed forward to the night that she and Jack spent marooned on the God forsaken island Isla de Muerta. They had gotten very drunk from rum and had shared a kiss. Jack had been the complete gentlemen and slept next to her without trying anything improper. She knew that it was the night Jack had kissed her that he had stolen her heart without even knowing it. Or maybe he had known all along, she wasn’t quite sure. The carriage skidded to a stop bringing Elizabeth out of her daydream.
She grabbed her suitcase and flung herself from the confines of the carriage. Her hazel eyes scanned the docks and spotted the tattered ebony sails of the Black Pearl. Her heart raced at the sight of the pirate vessel. Elizabeth hurried down the pier towards the Black Pearl. Her legs were burning from not being used to running at the pace she had set. Elizabeth stopped in front of the Black Pearl staring at it intently. Then she glanced back toward Port Royale for a second. No she would not back out of her decision now. She hurried up the gangplank of the Black Pearl to find Jack.
