Chapter 8 - Death of a Rose

Title: The Siren
Author: Hellborne (the_ferret_mom@yahoo.com)
Age Rating: 18+

Disclaimer: Characters, if you saw them in the movie, not mine. See the Mouse. Story, mine, but I make no money. He does, but not on this.

Typing convention: / is used for thoughts. * - * - * is used for scene changes and passages of time.

Summary: Will has been abducted by The Siren, a beautiful pirate captain with a crew of women. It's Jack's job to get him back, and he seems scared about it. Many surprises.

Warnings: H/C, angst, lemon, rape, Het.

Betas: The two greatest BetaGoddesses in the world, Pendragginink and Littlebird! You're both truly magnificent, and I wouldn't be able to write half as well without you!

Pendragginink: Actually, it reminded her that she was NOT chaste, even though she’d REALLY wanted to save it for Will. She felt rather guilty. Now she was “cheating on Will with TWO men... And the reason she hadn’t had Will: He hadn’t been around since she’d “fallen”. (explanations in 9/10)

Jackfan2: I promise...the very instant Muse!Gillette gets back. He went out for pizza with Muse!Bootstrap. When they get back, it’ll be Pleasant Holiday and Power of the Sparrow that I work on. And when Muse!Abernathy gets back from the jungle with my migraine medicine, I can actually go on with Witch...

Bittersweet: Why not try writing a little something. Something short and funny...doesn’t have to have great romance, action, etc...just for yourself. Heck, send it to me and I’ll be happy to take a peekie at it and let you know what I think. Honest! You’ve got me curious as to what plot bunnies scurry around in your head! As for Elizabeth, you know what a good actress she is (ala the beginning of the movie)...She didn’t want Jack to know about her “experience”. Re Will, news of that kind of wedding travels fast...and the Pearl wasn’t all that far away (lots of explanations in chapter 9/10 – still not sure if I’ll be splitting it up for length...it’s not typed yet, but is taking a LOT of notebook paper). Re me and characters...I took a quiz over at quizilla...no matter which of the versions of my honest answers I gave, it claimed I was a character writer...figures. Regarding how fast I can write...as long as I’m not in extreme pain (ala my migraines lately), I can’t seem to stop writing whether I can read it without a magnifying glass or not...I take a notebook wherever I go, along with my PotC writing bible...and I just picked up the book “Pirates” by “Captain Charles Johnson” (first published in 1726 and now believed to be the work of Daniel Defoe). I’m saving for a few more books...now that all the ferrets are out of hock.

Inane happiness: As I publish this chapter...HAPPY 41st BIRTHDAY JOHNNY DEPP! (Sorry...couldn’t help myself)

A/N: This chapter was the last chapter written during our homeless phase, with my depressed muse going rabid. Notice that hitting the REVIEW button is making my muses happier...not in this chapter, but the latest chapters I’ve written are definitely turning brighter...though one of the muses keeps trying to kill Jack...So hit the REVIEW button and let’s get my Muse!Jack happier... Remember, I want your HONEST opinion of the story...good, bad or ugly, I love the reviews!

Chapter 8 - Death of a Rose

James showed Angeline the soiled sheet and she smiled. "Then there WILL be a Markham heir. Till just a little while ago, I still doubted. But this proves it."

James took the sheet away, a very puzzled look on his face.

* - * - *

"Sail ho! Two ships!"

Jack raised his head from between Elizabeth's legs, his face wet and his hair wild. "We're there." He climbed out of bed and dressed quickly, wiping off his face, tying his hair back in a simple queue and rushing from the room. Elizabeth dressed a little slower, knowing that Jack would wish some time alone with his sister before they arrived. It had been three days since the wedding, and Angeline had slipped further each day.

Jack arrived on deck at the same time as James and Will, and waited impatiently for James to use the spyglass first. When he was finished, he handed the glass to Jack, who looked through it. "The Pearl and the Rose. Good." Then he noticed that they were lashed together, with the crew of the Rose moving back and forth between them and no sign of the Pearl's crew; not even Mr. Cotton's parrot. He handed the spyglass back to Norrington. "Commodore, I'll need to go over there on my own first. There's no telling what's going on, and I'd rather not subject your men to the wiles of the Siren's crew."

James looked through the spyglass again. His jaw dropped. "All of them are women?"

"Aye. Angeline handpicked them. And I don't want anything to happen to them, savvy? I just hope the crew of the Pearl hasn't been subjected to them for overlong. If that be the case, they're no good to me or the Pearl." He turned to Will. "Lad, you come with me. You've seen what they can do already, so I can trust you not to be enmeshed in their spells." He turned back to James. "Are there going to be problems with your men with me running over to the Pearl?"

"Of course not. I chose these men for this excursion for their loyalty and trust." He smiled sincerely. "They all know who you are, and know that we shall endeavor to catch you after all of this is over."

Jack grinned. "Endeavor all ye wish, Commodore. Ye know you'll never catch me."

James chuckled. "Perhaps, perhaps not. But we shall try."

* - * - *

As they drew near, James ordered a flag of truce to be raised, and a jollyboat was lowered. Jack and Will climbed into the jollyboat and Will started rowing.

"William. You haven't spoken a word to me since before the wedding."

"You've been 'busy.'"

"Not all the time. Whenever I've walked on deck and you've seen me, you've turned tail and run. Why?"

"You knew I loved Elizabeth. Why did you marry her?"

"I thought James told you; I had to marry someone who I could trust with my identity and my heir. I could only think of Elizabeth for that, and it opens the door for you once we have a Markham heir."

"It still feels wrong. As if she were putting up with me as a second choice."

"No, mate. She loves YOU, not me. She's putting up with ME to produce an heir. Then she gets the name, the estate, and, most importantly, the freedom to remarry whomever she pleases; namely, you. Before she married me, she had no choice, and I happen to know from the Commodore that her father was getting impatient about her becoming a spinster. He was planning on marrying her off to the next old codger who came along. Lucky it was me, eh? This way, you can both be happy making as many grandchildren for your father as you wish, and Old Weatherby Swann has naught to say about it. Don't hate her for it; she did it for YOU. And don't hate me for it; I did it for Angel."

"I know, and I don't hate either of you. But I can't help but feel wrong about the whole arrangement."

"It'll turn out. Trust me."

They pulled alongside the Rose and climbed up the ladder to the wrong end of at least a dozen pistols.

Jack grinned and walked up to one of them, pressing the muzzle of her pistol aside. "Nina, my fine lady. Why the less than warm reception aboard me own ship?"

Nina signaled the other pistols to be lowered. "I wasn't sure it was you. Henri said you looked different, but I wanted to be sure."

"Yes, it's me. Now. Where is the Pearl's crew?"

"In the brigs. They wouldn't cooperate."

Jack smirked. "Oh wouldn't they? Wouldn't cooperate in what way? Did anyone tell you to strip them? Or was that just tradition sticking its ugly head up? Let them loose, and have your men get dressed. I want everyone over onto the Pearl with everything they can carry within the hour. I want nothin' o'value left here whatsoever."

"The guns?"

"Leave 'em. The powder too. Ye won't be needin' it on the Pearl."

"So we're to be crewmembers on the Pearl? Or are you going to leave us off somewhere?"

"You'll be full crewmembers on the Pearl till the mood takes ye t' leave. And you don't need fret over being around clothed and armed men. If any one of you is accosted or taken without her say so, the culprit will have me and Anamaria to reckon with, and neither one of us are lenient to rapists. This will be the first time in years that the Pearl has had a full crew. Now, sleeping arrangements will have to be made, but in the meantime, you ladies will have the crew's quarters; the men can sleep on deck. Now get my men freed so that they can help ye empty the Rose."

He walked across to the Pearl and saw Henri walking out of the captain's cabin. "Jackie! How's married life treatin' ye? It's been three days!"

Jack glanced at Will, then back at Henri. "Henri, my girl, as soon as that lady is pregnant, it's just you and me...and the bunk in m' cabin."

Henri smiled. "Jackie, you and your silver tongue..." She sighed. "Aye. But what will your wife do?"

Jack pointed at Will. "That there be her true love. I'm givin' them the heir and estates as a wedding present."

Will blushed. Henri giggled. "'e's goin' t' be the blushin' bride, tha' one is. 'e's better lookin' than 'is father too, an' that's sayin' a lot!"

Jack chuckled. "Always on the prowl, you are, Henri." He gave her a hug and a deep, passionate kiss. "But that's what I love so much about you."

*Smack!*

"Jack Sparrow, you come to me with the taste of another on your lips?!" She grinned. "The least ye could have done was wash yer face before ye came over here."

Jack grinned sheepishly. "I'm sorry, love. But the call came while I was otherwise occupied...I didn't have time to wash up afterwards."

Will glared, blushing. "Jack, as far as I know, you can't get Elizabeth pregnant THAT way."

Jack tipped his head. "I forgot Angeline had you captive for over three days. No, but it certainly helps prepare a lady for it. Or would you rather that Elizabeth believed in the 'wifely duty' of putting up with her husband, and not enjoying it herself?"

Henri chuckled. "Oh, Jack. You've always been able to please without needin' to 'prepare' a lady."

He grinned. "Aye, but ye can't expect me to leave her unprepared for what the whelp can do for her after Angeline trained him properly."

Will blushed a deep red color and left quickly to help with the transfer from the Rose to the Pearl.

Jack snickered, grinning widely. "I wonder...was it something I said?" Henri laughed.

* - * - *

Once the White Rose was stripped of all valuables and crew and he had made certain adjustments to the captain's cabin, Jack ordered the Black Pearl to pull away, while he, alone, stayed on the Rose. After the Pearl was out of firing range, he signaled to the Rapier to pull alongside the Rose and run out a plank between them. Once the plank was secured, he trotted across it to where Norrington was standing. "It's time, James." They both went below without another word, the mood heavy on them.

* - * - *

Angeline lay on her bed on the White Rose, unable to move now due to her weakness. Jack stood over her, tears falling freely. "I won't forget you, Angel, and I'll always love you. You always took care of me when I was sick, cheered me up when I was unhappy, kept me from punishment when we got into mischief, and even found me the love of my life; my Pearl. You're the best sister any man can ask for." He kissed her on her forehead, and, not waiting for a reply, turned and fled from the room, trying to hide his tears.

James stepped up to the bed and leaned over Angeline, his facial expression tender. "Angeline, I would that I had met you while you were healthy." He kissed her chastely on the lips. "You are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen, and I wish that I had met "the Siren" to be seduced by her." Angeline smiled. "But I think that I could have talked you out of piracy to be my wife."

A tear escaped Angeline's eye; Her voice a mere whisper. "Aye. Ye could have. But I wonder which of us is the true pirate. I only plundered for gold and treasure for me crew. You plundered my heart, and that's not an easy thing to do."

James smiled. "And you mine. If only the circumstances-"

"Never question fate, James. I'll love ye from the grave, and eventually we'll meet again. Unless I'm goin' t' Hell, in which case, I'll mourn the loss of ye."

"And I'll always love you." James kissed her again, which she returned gladly.

"Now finish what we started and leave me be."

James nodded, kissing her one last time before turning around and moving to the doorway. He took the pistol that he'd brought with him out of his belt, aimed at the thickly piled line of gunpowder leading to the sixteen full powder kegs under Angeline's bunk and fired. As soon as he saw that it was burning, he turned and ran.

* - * - *

As the White Rose blew to pieces, Jack turned to James and smiled weakly, tears in his eyes. "She wanted to die with her ship as a pirate. Thank you, mate. I just couldn't do it myself."

James put a friendly arm around his good shoulder and squeezed gently. "I know. I knew her only a short time and I was barely able to do it. She was very special, Jack. I shall miss her."

Jack nodded, afraid to speak lest his voice crack with his emotion, then fled to the cabin he shared with Elizabeth, sobbing.

James looked at the smoldering wreck of the Rose. "May you rest in peace, my Angeline, and wait for me as I'm sure you are destined to go to Heaven."
