Chapter 8

Several hours later, Alexis rounded the corner of the ships med bay, to see Matt standing there staring at the body on the table. She snuck up behind him and poked his ribs sending him whirling around tripping over his own feet falling to the ground. Alexis laughed hard at the sight as Matt giving her a disapproving frown and got back to his feet.

“FUCK! You scared the shit out of me Alexis. You don’t go sneaking around scaring people when they have a big fuckin dead guy lying in front of them.” Alexis looked at him with a smirk on her lips. “Sorry Matt, I didn’t think you would jump so bad,” she said apologetically.

Matt took a deep breath and looked at Alexis sweetly; then he put his arms around her and hugged her. She sighed with relief that the worst was over and hugged him back.

Matt kissed her cheek again and then looked into her eyes. “Did everything go as planned in the prison?” Alexis nodded and looked back at him. “It went perfect. They thought the body was me and they took it to the surface to shoot into space. That was one of the best body reconstructions I have ever seen by the way.” Matt smiled and turned towards the body in front of them. “Thanks.” He replied softly. “When are you going to take care of him?”

Alexis walked over to the it and pulled the sheet back revealing Riddick’s face. His color hadn’t changed much, he looked more like he was asleep than dead. Her blood she put on his wound was working with keeping his cells active, a large part of the wound even showed signs of trying to heal. “I’ll do it now. He’s been gone for a few hours so it will take time for him to heal, and he will be weak when it’s finished.”

Matt sighed, “What about you? Do I need to know anything before you start?”

Alexis gave him a small smile. “No. Just go pilot or something. I will find you later, alright?”

Matt nodded and turned away from her to walk to the cockpit.

As soon as he was out of sight Alexis closed the med bay doors and locked them. She stood over Riddick, bent down to kiss him on the forehead and then she turned to walk to the cooling unit in the corner. Opening it she grabbed out a container of dark liquid and set it down next to Riddick. Opening it, she looked at him. “Here’s to you.” She whispered as she brought it to her lips and drank down the whole container.

When she finished, she put the empty container under the table and she stood there, her eyes now closed and her hands resting on top of the white sheet next to Riddick. Her breathing slowly increased, her hands started to tremble slightly. Occasionally, her face distorted with pain and frustration. Then suddenly, her breathing went back to normal and her hands rested quietly on the sheet. Slowly bringing her head up she opened her eyes to reveal black pools where the beautiful blue had been. She looked around the room as though she had forgotten why she was there and then her gaze focused on the man in front of her. A wicked smile crossed her face and she tilted her head looking at the beautiful corpse that lay before her. Bending down, she rolled his head to the left and stared at his neck. The mark was still there from earlier and her smile disappeared as she latched onto his neck. Blood poured from around her mouth and showed no signs of stopping. With a sudden jolt Riddick’s body twitched and he let out a low painful moan. She growled in response and put her hands on him holding him down. Riddick stirred again, this time trying to breathe air into his lifeless lungs. He rasped and coughed in pain until the air started to flow a little easier. His eyes started to clear and he tried to look around and find his bearings. Moving was not an option at the moment and he continued taking painful breaths that at least came a bit easier for him.

Alexis released her grasped on him and pulled herself back. She stared at Riddick and he stared back, now remembering what she had done in the tunnel. His mind told him to get away but his body wasn’t listening. She swept her eyes over him and pulled the sheet back farther revealing his mutilated abdomen. Riddick looked down following her eyes and gasped at the sight. He looked back at her and managed to sputter out, “What the hell did you do to me?” Alexis just smiled at him with her wicked grin. Riddick swallowed, which was painful on his completely dry throat. He winced and watched Alexis bent over him looking at the wall a few feet away. She turned her head to him, “Ready for this?” she asked not really caring what his reply would be if any. Riddick just watched as she raised a closed fist to her neck. Then in one quick flash, what looked like claws flew from her fist and slashed her neck. Riddick gasped as she remained on her feet, albeit swaying a bit as blood flowed from her wound to his. She slowly swayed more and more till she dropped out of his sight to the floor. He tried to look at her but he still couldn’t move. He could hear her though, sounded like she was having a fit or seizure. He tried repeatedly to move and he started making progress. He pushed himself up with all his might on elbows. He leaned forward to try and find Alexis when a sharp paint shot through his gut. He screamed out a deep agonizing growl and fell back on the table. He writhed and trembled, his body shaking uncontrollably. The pain only intensified and Riddick screamed again, this time with words. “FUCK!!! OH GOD! KILL ME!! PLEASE SOMEONE JUST KILL ME!!” Riddick had never felt pain like that and even as it subsided he kept repeating the phrases over and over again. Instead of a yell it was more of a whimper. His breath slowly returned again and he took a last deep breath before falling into unconsciousness.

Matt looked at the clock in his quarters, 2200 hours. It had been 5 hours since he left Alexis in the med bay. He had gone by after about 2 hours and tried the door but she had changed the password to unlock it. Feeling restless he decided to go to the kitchen and get something to eat.

He sat at the counter and decided to make himself a sandwich. He was just finishing it when he heard a noise down the hallway. Matt slowly got up and walked around the counter. He had left the lights dim as Alexis had instructed him to during the visit. Peering out down the hall he saw nothing. He slowly stepped around the counter and walked cautiously towards the med bay. He got a few feet from the kitchen when he saw him. A huge figure standing unsteadily in the hall. Matt swallowed and tried not to panic. He did not see Alexis anywhere. The large figure started walking slowly towards him. Matt backed up and into the kitchen where the lights were on a little brighter. The man stopped when he reached the kitchen entrance and squinted at Matt. Matt took a deep breath. “Lights down to 10%.” The kitchen lights dimmed to where Matt could just see the outline of the looming man, and eyes glowing back at him. Matt stepped towards the man who instinctively straightened his posture, even though Matt could tell it was hard for him. Matt extended his right hand to him. “Hello Riddick. My name is Matt. I am a friend of Alexis’s.” The man stood still and stared at Matt. Then, he slowly extended his hand. As Matt grabbed his hand in a shake Riddick slumped forward. He tried to catch himself on the counter but missed and he headed for the floor. Matt lunged forward and caught most of him, although Riddick’s size and weight practically pulled Matt to the floor also. “It’s Ok Riddick, it’s alright.” Matt grunted as he put Riddick’s arm around his shoulder to help him up. “Get up and sit here, I’ll get you something to eat.” Riddick groaned as he tried to help Matt with his weight but he still couldn’t do much. His strength seemed to leave him as soon as he could feel it.

Finally getting to the chair, Matt reached for the sandwich he had made and put it in front of Riddick. “Eat this; you need it more than I do.” Matt turned to get Riddick a drink and Riddick grabbed his wrists. Even though he was weak Matt winced at the pain Riddick’s grip was causing. He looked at Riddick but Riddick’s face was barely readable in the darkness. “What are you doing Riddick?” Matt asked painfully as Riddick tightened his hold.

“Tell me what happened.” Riddick’s voice was low and raw. Matt stopped pulling against Riddick. “Where’s Alexis?” Matt asked. Riddick looked at him and then down at the counter. He let go of Matt’s arm. “She’s lying on the floor, dead.”
