Chapter 28 - Mutiny

“I will be back as soon as it is safe all right? Don’t worry about anything; it’ll all work out right in the end.” Oria smiled encouragingly at her daughter, she didn’t need to know that this story was not going to have a happy ending. The events had been set in motion, there was no going back now and there was no avoiding it.

“I’m not afraid mama.” Oria smiled at the girl’s courage and kissed her on the forehead before turning back to the crew of the Interceptor. She didn’t want to face her anymore, that hopeful, loving gaze that trusted her so much. Oria would give anything to avoid the future, the future that had been in the making for eight years.

“Find anything you can use as a weapon.” Several picked up planks of wood and lengths of rope before they charged up top, only to come to a shuddering halt. The entire crew of the Pearl was stood up top with their pistols aimed at the brig exit chuckling and grinning manically, Gibbs stared out in disbelief.

“Oh, I guess we weren’t quite quiet enough then.” Gibbs stated, Barbossa was laughing cruelly.

“Oh you were quiet enough alright would have taken us by surprise if it wasn’t for Jack.” He passed a nut up to the monkey who grinned and accepted it, “He told us all about your little escape and rebellion.” Oria pushed her way through to the front and met Barbossas’ pistol aimed at her eyes, “’Ello again Oria, back so soon for another duel? Tie them to the mast, put her manacles back on and clamp her to it as well.”

“You seem to be having the same ‘good ideas faulty run’ through as Miss Elizabeth.” Gibbs whispered to her, Oria grimaced at him.

“Aye that may be but at least I was thinking of one.” Oria glared at him pointedly as she was dragged away. Pintel and Ragetti re-clamped her wrists in the manacles while the rest of the pirates wrapped a rope about Gibbs and the rest of the crew. Oria watched as the other end of the manacle was clamped to a loop on the mast, “Thank you, thank you very much. Really appreciate it chaps.” They chuckled and stalked away to help drag the rest of the crew over, Barbossa stalked over to stand next to her.

“I know what the girl is, what she means to you.” Her attention didn’t falter from tugging at the manacle in annoyance.

“Good for you mate.” She tugged harder at the manacle.

“You know what I mean. I know she’s yours and I want to know who the father is.” She paused with her tugging as a rope was bound about the mast in front of her and the crew pressed tightly against it.

“And what exactly do you intend on doing about it if I don’t care to tell?” She began tugging again at the manacle, furious that it still was unrelenting.

“For the moment absolutely nothing. Tell me, do you recognise that bit of land there.” Oria glanced over the side of the ship.

“Aye, Rum Runner Island, where you…” He grinned as her eyes widened as she realised his intention, “You wouldn’t dare.” She whispered hiding the fear in her eyes as he studied them intently for any clue as to her feelings towards the old Captain.

“Oh but I would. Bring up ol’ Jack and Miss Elizabeth.” The pirates chortled and quickly dragged the pair up to the deck; Jack glanced about with a confused frown at the sudden re-appearance of the crew.

“Did I miss something?” Oria shrugged.

“Only a failed mutiny, don’t worry.” He raised an eyebrow as he was clamped between Koehler and Twigg. Sara was dragged up as well and Oria stopped pulling against the manacle momentarily as she assessed the situation. She doubted the girl would be able to conduct herself in such a way as to not arouse suspicion to the fact that Jack could be her father. Elizabeth was tossed carelessly towards the plank and she stumbled onto it looking down warily at the swirling ocean, Pintel drew his sword and chuckled.

“Go on poppet. Go on, walk the plank.” Will tugged himself free of the rope and surged forwards only for the crew to grasp him and drag him back into their midst.

“Barbossa you lying bastard! You swore she’d go free!” Barbossa glared back at him.

“Don’t dare impugn me honour, boy. I agreed she’d go free, but it was you who failed to specify when or where.” He chuckled as a rough piece of material was forced into Wills mouth and he was silenced.

“Honour? What honour? You have none; it died with your filthy black heart several years ago when you mutinied against Jack.” He glared at Oria but chose not to rise to the bait; he turned his attention back to Elizabeth.

“Though it does seem a shame to lose something so fine, don’t it lads.” The crew chortled as Barbossa stepped forwards, “So I’ll be having that dress back before you go.” Elizabeth stared disbelievingly at the pirate before unfastening the bulky material and stepping out of it to many cat calls and whistles. Jack glanced at Twigg with a smile having just recognised the island.

“I always liked you.” The man grunted at him and Jack stared back to where Elizabeth was stepping out of the cloth. Picking it up she contemplated dropping it in the ocean but decided it would be wiser to just toss it back.

“It goes with your black heart.” Barbossa caught it easily and pressed it to his face with an evil chuckle.

“Ooh, it’s still warm.” The crew chuckled evilly, Oria tugged at her manacle furiously and her hand started to come through she grinned triumphantly only to feel the cold kiss of a pistol to the back of her neck. She rolled her eyes until she heard the click of one near Sara as well and the girls whimper, “Don’t bother with those little antics. Last time you had a pair of swords and a pair of pistols and you still lost, this time will not be any different. Get another pair of irons on the same wrist.” Barbossa shouted.

“Last time you didn’t play fair. Last time and this time you dragged an innocent child into it.” He primed the gun.

“I’m not afraid to shoot you Oria, don’t you forget that. And as far as I’m concerned everything is fair with you, you’re too treacherous to be trusted… like a snake.” She watched as a second manacle was fastened about her wrist and her hand pulled back through for the first to be tightened. Oria glanced across at Sara and smiled encouragingly. Barbossa turned back to where Elizabeth was still stood shivering slightly on the plank.

“Off you go, come on!” A pirate chortled as he leaned over the railing eagerly, Elizabeth glanced down at the water again, Bo’Sun grimaced and pushed his way forwards.

“Too long!” He slammed his foot down harshly on the plank and Elizabeth gave a faint scream before being plunged into the warm Caribbean water. Jack was pushed forwards and onto the plank which was still vibrating from the impact of the Bo’Suns’ foot. Oria felt her heart contract slightly with fear and glanced across at Sara whose eyes had widened to dinner plates once more.

“I’d really rather hoped we were past all this.” Barbossa chuckled and wrapped an arm about Jacks’ shoulders companionably.

“Jack… Jack, did ya not notice? That be the same little island we made you Governor of on our last little trip.” Jack glanced back just to confirm it and nodded.

“I did notice.” Barbossa grinned and pushed him towards the plank.

“Perhaps you’ll be able to conjure up another miraculous escape… but I doubt it.” He drew his sword smoothly and pressed it towards Jacks throat, Jack took several steps back, “Off you go.” Sara began to shout something; Jack shouted out over the top of her and shook his head slightly. The girl clamped her mouth shut as Jack continued.

“Last time… Last time you left me a pistol with one shot.” Barbossa paused and sheathed his sword.

“By the powers you’re right. Where be Jacks’ pistol? Bring it forward.” The crew shuffled slightly as Jacks’ effects were brought forwards, the belt, the compass, and his pistol. Jack cleared his throat.

“Seeing as there’s two of us, a gentleman would give us a pair of pistols.” Barbossa glared at him.

“It’ll be one pistol as before, and you can be the gentleman and shoot the lady and starve to death yourself.” He tossed the belt into the ocean; Jack glanced behind him to Oria and nodded slightly, he grinned at Sara briefly before diving after the belt. Oria tugged against her bonds valiantly but they wouldn’t give, the manacles clanging against each other noisily to cover Sara’s unrestrained whisperings of despair. Barbossa approached with a grin on his face, Oria struck out with her foot.

“Don’t you dare touch me!” He chuckled and circled her as she tugged against it harshly.

“Now, now don’t be like that.” She glared and tugged harder yelping slightly as the manacles pinched her skin between them. He reached forwards as if to release them, she struck out again.

“You release me and I can guarantee you won’t last a minute.” She tugged again, he grasped her chin roughly, she paused and met his gaze.

“I broke you last time, I’ll be perfectly happy to do so again. I’ll give you the night chained here to think over your choices. Just remember, it’s not just you any more, now there’s another. Tell me… Oria… how willing are you to risk her safety?” He strode away and dragged Sara after him, Sara shouted out for Oria and sobbed as Barbossa threw her into his cabin.

“Take the rest of them down to the brig and get us moving to the Isla de Muerta, I’m ready for this curse to be gone.” Oria tugged again at the manacles before giving up on them and choosing instead to kick out at anyone foolish enough to come within reach, only one made the mistake. Frustration riding so high on her agenda it overrode everything else except the fear for Sara.
