Chapter 7 – I Know

Jack paused as he cleared the boarding plank of the Pearl before catching Will’s shadow under the stairs by his cabin, “It’s locked, I couldn’t get in.” Will whispered slowly emerging from the shadows as Jack strode towards the cabin and quickly unlocked it before ushering the lad inside quickly with a wary glance backwards. He bolted the door after him and glanced through the glass once more for reassurance before lighting a single candle on the desk and motioning with a casual wave of his arm for Will to pull a chair up.

Slowly he spread the papers back out on the desk and studied them silently for a few moments, “How much do you know of Davy Jones?” Will frowned at Jack’s question before seeing the serious look in his eyes and decided against jest.

“Not much.” Jack nodded and scrabbled through the papers till he found the wanted poster.

“What do you know about her family? The De Monara’s?” Will shrugged.

“Only what your crew told me in the brig of the Pearl a year ago.” Jack waved a hand for him to expand into detail, Will sighed, he already knew this was going to be a long night, "That they could be recognised by the three scars on the waist, left for men and right for women… and that they were ridiculously ruthless and supposed to have been destroyed eighty or so years ago.” Jack nodded slowly.

“Well partially true. See Oria is the last of the De Monara’s, and she disappeared with the rest of her family eighty years ago.” Will was about to interrupt him but quickly silenced himself at Jack’s glare, “Davy Jones destroyed her family and took her onto his ship into service as an assassin and purveyor of souls. He shanghaied her mortality to bind her to him or face the world alone for all eternity. Now then, she can not die, she can not scar and she can not age at all. The only piece of your parchment puzzle I can’t figure out is why this ‘man’ wants Oria so badly.” Will glanced down at the various sheets.

“Do you know what he means by owning the land and the sea?” Will whispered afraid that if he raised his voice the pirate would lose his concentration. He’d never seen the pirate so focused on anything in his life. Slowly Jack shook his head and poured once more over the various sheets. This was going to require a lot of thinking and the only thing he could think of that aided thinking was rum. Jack glanced back up at Will, the lad might prove useful yet, it might be beneficial to keep him aboard.

“Care to stay aboard lad? Help me solve this little riddle of yours?” Will smiled faintly but nodded, he was ready for another adventure, besides his curiosity had been aroused. Jack pushed the papers towards him, “Pour over them and see if anything piques your interest.” He headed out of the cabin and down to the hold with the sole intention of getting rum.

Oria woke suddenly and sat bolt upright in the hammock her chest heaving with rushing adrenaline. She slowly regained her self control and glanced across to Davy Jones, he was still fast asleep his head resting against the organ as it usually did. Easing herself out of the hammock Oria slipped out of the cabin and up to the deck sighing as the chill wind froze her heated flesh. She made her way to the prow and watched the waves break against the rough edged teeth of the bow.

“Once again you failed.” Oria glanced across at Maccus.

“Shut up Maccus.” He chuckled and leaned against the banister next to her.

“When will you learn that this is where you belong? He isn’t going to let you go easily.” Oria glared at him and stepped away, he followed mockingly. She turned on him angrily and pushed him backwards violently.

“Will you get over yourself already! You fell for it, it’s your own fault that you’re here, it’s your fault that I’m still here. If you’d just kept to the plan I laid for you I could have been free of this sorry mess.” He chuckled cruelly and stepped back up to face her.

“Shouldn’t you be thanking me for keeping you on this ship so you could meet this precious Jack?” She snarled at him and stepped up till her face was millimetres from his.

“I owe you nothing because I wouldn’t have known any better.” He chuckled as she stalked away.

“We were always better suited together than you and that excuse for a man. When are you going to realise that Oria? Cruelty breeds cruelty, you still don’t know any better. Just the same twisted little whore that you always were except this time you actually did the deed.” Oria glared at him and headed back for Davy Jones cabin, “Jones isn’t always going to favour you, let you play these little games of yours, better prepare for the consequences when he finds out you aren’t pure anymore.” She paused and glanced back at him her hand resting on the handle lightly.

“You wouldn’t dare.” He chuckled cruelly.

“We’re all in the same boat Oria. How many years do you think he would take off my service if I told him that bit of information. Not just that you’re no longer pure but that you also conceived that bastard’s child?” He bared a toothy grin and laughed more broadly, “You wouldn’t be favoured pet then, would you. Or perhaps I could keep that a secret and only tell him that you gave Jack the same path you gave me. Except this time… you fell for your victim and decided to let him slip through the net after all there’s always next time for you. Jones will be around for eternity to trick into letting you go but your little Jack. You can’t bear to see him…” Oria stepped back up to him and he went silent with a grin.

“What do you want?” He chuckled deeply and leaned forward to whisper in her ear.

“I want to see you suffer at the hands of Davy Jones, knocked from your pedestal as prized pet and into the same ranks as all the souls you gave this miserable existence. I want to see you destroyed while still alive.”

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Pilgrim is currently really ill. I'm her best friend, she's given me a few sheets of paper that continue the story and asked me to post one chapter every two days. She's still writing as much as she can cope with but we're both hoping she'll be better in a week before the chapters run out. She sends her apologies and thanks to all the readers and reviewers that understand the delay.

Bootstrap appears in 'Taming A Dragon' he helps Oria hide Sara and convince Jack to keep the baby when Oria gets pregnant.

Thanx
