Chapter 8
Holly looked up at her husband as he stared out over the moonlit lake.
“Why do you think Jeremy was acting like that?”
“I don’t know? I know he was afraid of the one named Shadow but I could not tell you why he was acting that way.”
Holly continued to look at him. “Maybe it was the vitamin shot. You know Hank had it too and he was acting suicidal also.”
Jack looked down at her. “Maybe it was Holly.”
Something caught Holly’s eye in the water. “What is that?”
Jack smiled. “Hara”
Holly looked at him. “What do you mean Hara? Who is Hara?”
Jack gently stroked her hair. Holly moved away from him.
Jack smiled. “You know you should try this it is magnificent.”
Holly backed. “You’ve been putting that unknown organism in the serum haven’t you?”
Jack faced her. “Yes and it has done wonders for me Holly.”
He approached her. “You have two choices Holly either you can help me or you can join Hara in the lake. I’m sure she would like the company.”
Holly felt something wrap around her waist and the rested underneath her chin. “What is your decision Wife?”
“Something is not right?” Brian said to Joshua as he drove their guests back to False’s territory.
“It’s those damn doctors.” Lance said to them.
“What about the doctors?” Alia asked Lance.
“Don’t mind Lance. He watched all those old Earth horror movies and the doctors were always trying to make a better creature or take over the world.” Marla said frowning at the Corporal in the front seat of the fifteen passenger armored vehicle.
Lance glared at her. “You say that now but when you’re crying and begging someone to kill you because you’ve got something tearing through your skin don’t look at me.”
Cal looked at Alia. “What’s that stuff on your neck?”
Alia touched her neck and the crusty mucus fell into her hand. Shadow looked at the substance.
“The Ooman’s sweat smells the same as hard meat saliva.” Sal’van grunted at Shadow.
“We need to go back.” Alia said to Cal.
Cal looked out from his concealed position behind the row of trees at the medical building. “I could get fired for this.”
“You prefer all these people dying because of something those damn doctors are experimenting with.” Lance whispered.
Cal frowned. “Okay we go in let Josh and Brian do their thing and get out. Marla your on the door don’t leave your post you are our eyes while we are inside.” Marla nodded.
Alia moved beside Brian. “Get a small sample of the dead one’s blood we can use Monk lab to see what is in it.”
Brian nodded and the group of eight ran across the grassy campground towards the Medical building and slipped inside while Myx, Rito False, Kayco, and Eli watched concealed in the trees.
Marla guarded the door to Jack’s personal computer room while Joshua broke the password code.
Lance smiled at him. “What are you part machine?”
“What does Jack talk about more than anything?” Joshua asked his fellow marines as he continued typing bringing up the medical files he had stored.
“Discovering a new organism on this planet and bringing it back to old Earth.” Cal said.
“He wants to be God so I figured as shallow as he is that would be his password.”
Joshua looked through the files and found the one marked Vitamin or serum. He touched the screen and a computer-generated diagram of the serum interacting with the human cell came up on the screen.
“Oh hell” Cal said watching the alien organism devoured the human cell and it become alien.
“It’s like Cancer.” Joshua said.
Shadow, Brian and Alia returned to the others after drawing blood from the two dead guards.
“Oh fuck. Here let me sit down.”
Shadow and Sal’van moved towards the door since the woman was walking back towards her fellow teammates. Joshua moved from the chair, Brian punched in some question, and a list came up. The Marines stared at the screen as the list contained the settlers’ food and water and their vitamin shot.
“What a sick fuck?” Marla said staring at the computer screen.
“Get back to th…..”
“What are you doing in here?” The two guards had their guns drawn on the group.
“Answer the question Captain?”
Cal frowned at the men and then saw the two creatures that had come with them move in behind the armed men. “Just relax”
“I’m calling the General”
“Your decision Holly I’m waiting?”
The spear twitched under her chin ready to push through and pierce her brain. “Alright I’ll help you.”
Jack released her. “Excellent I knew there was a reason why I married you.”
Holly rubbed her chin. “How much of that are you giving the settlers?”
“3ml but with this new batch it will be 6.”
Holly hid her displeasure from him. “What are you planning on doing with them once the organism takes over?”
Jack smiled at her interest in his plan. “I plan on starting a new race filled with my children.”
“What children are you talking about?” Holly asked backing away from him.
Jack laughed at her. “Not with you Holly I don’t find you that appealing anyway.”
“You want to mate with that Ambassador.”
“Oh yes she is very beautiful and her blood and mine would create a new species.”
Holly tripped over a rock Jack kneeled down to her and opened his mouth to show her his hidden four-inch canine. Holly gasped and slid back on the bank.
“You will continue to give the people the serum and I will not kill you Holly.”
She nodded and Jack stood and offered her his hand. She placed her hand in his. “Now we will return to the lab and begin the work to increase the dosage for tomorrow.”
He pulled her towards him. “Do you know what a medical breakthrough we will be part of Holly; we will be Gods to the mortals.”
“Yes we will.” She said faking a smile anything to get him to believe her total acceptance. Jack seemed pleased and led her back to the Medical building.
“Is he okay?” Brian asked Alia when he saw Shadow leaning on the wall after knocking the guards unconscious. Alia walked towards him. Shadow assured her he was okay. She heard a shrill from False.
“We must go.” She said helping Shadow from the room.
Joshua finished copying the files, took the disk, and followed his team out. False saw them coming and that Shadow was laboring to keep up. He came out of his hiding place and went to help Alia with Shadow. Alia heard False chuckling at Shadow and dragging him into the trees just as Jack and Holly walked by.
“What is wrong with him?” Marla asked Alia who was wiping Shadow’s face of sweat.
False held Shadow upright in his seat as the vehicle sped away.
Brian moved closer. “Do you want me to look at him?”
Myx growled something and then False finished Myx’s statement.
Alia faced the Oomans. “Myx said that if any of you touch him he will rip out your eyes and break your spine and False said then he’d parade your head on a stake out in front of your settlement.”
There was silence in the vehicle.
Shadow purred at Alia as she wiped his face. Sal’van seethed with anger. It did not matter if Shadow was coming into musk or not he would not let another of his father’s enemies steal a female from their family. He would help kill the Oomans and then kill Shadow.
Sal’van looked up to notice the Ooman named Lance looking at him and frowning. He would start with him first.
“What happened in here?” Holly asked kneeling beside the unconscious men.
Jack went to his computer and noticed nothing out of order but he could smell the Alien Ambassador’s scent in the room. They had been there and had probably seen his data.
Jack smiled. “It looks like we will get to test our experiments earlier than expected Holly.”
Holly shuddered when Jack got a syringe and withdrew some of his blood from his neck and approached the men on the floor.
“It’s time to hunt.”
