Perfection
I never thought I'd be so happy to be home. When you're in New York, you're constantly dreaming of places where it's warm and exotic; somewhere different, not as cold and not as depressing. When you're away from New York, even when you have found those far away places and are a thousand miles gone, over time you always come to realize that there's no place like home.
It was merely late October and already freezing outside; I felt like I were living in an arctic tundra instead of downtown New York. I was glad to be home, if only for a week or two, it was still time off of my hectic job. At very least I was happy that I'd get to sleep in my own bed, see my friends and family and get away from the boys for a while.
That's what I was most grateful for - getting some time alone. I hadn't seen anyone in days, and although I wished to permanently keep it that way after what happened between first Johnny and I, and then worst of all, Bam and I - I had promised Jeff I'd come to his stupid party.
The masquerade was tomorrow and I hadn't even begun looking for a costume yet. I'd be lucky to find anything this close to the holiday that wouldn't look completely ridiculous, or fall apart in two seconds because it was so cheap.
Two hours and two hundred dollars later - I had found something breath taking.
While walking aimlessly in the streets of New York I came across a tiny shop that I had never seen before. It was in one of the upscale areas and intended to appeal to a richer crowd, which is most likely the reason why I had never noticed it before. They weren't strictly a Halloween shop, selling couture all year round, but supplying expensive costumes when the season called for it.
Normally I wouldn't have thought twice about entering a store infamous for selling shoes a hundred dollars a pair, but now that I was working with the jackass crew I was a bit better off and therefor decided to venture in on a whim.
I was greeted quickly by a woman behind the counter, and upon asking me what I were looking for I simply replied, "Something fabulous.", and left my options open. The girl came out from her post and looked my body over, making me extremely uncomfortable while taking my size, appearance and shape into consideration.
The woman, whose name tag read 'Yasmin', asked "What kind of look are you going for?", and waited patiently for me to contemplate a second before replying, "Something classy, I'm going to a masquerade.", and leaving it up to her to decide.
Yasmin led me to the back where she showed me a small selection of beautiful gowns; some sequined and flashy, some medieval, and then there were the one's the interested me the most - the elegant, Victorian selection.
There was one that caught my eye immediately; one floor length with a full skirt - one fancy and ruffled just like a princess would wear. It was as if this dress had fallen out of the story 'Cinderella' and landed right there, at my fingertips.
It was a light shade of yellow and speckled with diamond looking jewels in just the right places. It was simple but dramatic and beautiful. If this didn't get the attention of whoever it was that I were trying to impress - I didn't know what would.
"This is the one." I told Yasmin, grabbing my size and taking it to the dressing room with her following close behind me. The dress was a perfect fit, and contrasted amazingly with my dark hair, making my blue eyes pop.
"Hold on," Yasmin directed, holding up a palm quickly. "I have just the thing..." She babbled. "The perfect thing." She sped off, retreating into the depths of the store and returning within minutes holding a starkly yellow eye mask.
I paid for everything with haste, the entire total coming up to nearly two hundred dollars, and sadly, I felt a hell of a lot better than I did before. I couldn't help but think how stupid I had been. I was depressed and hadn't realized until then that the only thing I needed to cheer me up was the same thing that made every girl feel good; a shopping spree.
I had a lot of money, and I was going to blow it. With that notion in mind I decided to treat myself to a manicure, pedicure and new shoes while I was at it. Something big was going to happen at Jeff's party and I could feel it - I just didn't know what.
