The morning of Will’s trial had arrived and Elizabeth had been awake for hours now. The sun had just barely broken the horizon but she had woken up ages ago when it had still been dark out. It had probably been sometime during the middle of the night she had guessed when she had woken. She had been having a bad dream and had been startled awake by it grabbing onto Jack’s shoulders since she had been laying against his chest. Jack had woken up too and had whispered soothing words to her while running his fingers through her hair to try and relax her. But it hadn’t worked and she had laid there for quite some time next to him staring up at the ceiling of the cabin. Finally unable to lay there any longer she had carefully gotten out of bed and tiptoed quietly over to the door of the cabin. Walking out onto the deck she went over to the railing and leaned against it to stare out at the dark water as the moon danced across it making it shimmer. Elizabeth didn’t even know how long she had been standing at the railing when a pair of calloused hands slipped around her waist startling her. Turning around she came face to face with a sleepy looking Jack.

“Love…how long have ye been out here?”

“A while now…it was dark when I came out.”

“I see…trouble sleeping eh?”

“I’m sorry…I didn’t mean to wake you.”

“It’s alright darling…was jus’ worried bout ye that’s all.”

“I’m okay Jack.”

“Ye don’t have t’ pretend for me love.”

“Pretend?”

“That yer alright. It’s William’s trial…I know this must be difficult for ye?”

“It’s hard to say really…I mean I don’t want to see him die…but I don’t want him to get away with what he did to me either. Oh Jack…I don’t know what I want!”

“Do ye think ye’ll be able t’ do this darling?”

“Do what?”

“Ye have t’ testify against Will an’ tell the Brethren Council what he did.”

Her tea colored eyes widened and her mouth dropped open a little in disbelief. Closing her mouth she tried to swallow but her mouth had suddenly become painfully dry. Twisting in Jack’s arms to face out to sea again she closed her eyes and tried to slow her racing mind. Jack leaned his chin against her right shoulder softly letting out a sigh when he felt her flinch a little.

“Elizabeth?”

“Jack…you didn’t tell me that I would be the one standing up addressing the Brethren Council. Why didn’t you tell me this last night?”

“I…it jus’ didn’t seem important then darling.”

“Didn’t seem important? Jack…of course it’s important! Will was my fiancee! I do still love him!”

Jack straightened back up taking his chin off her shoulder at hearing her say that she still loved Will. No matter how much he might try and deny it those words stung. He hated hearing Elizabeth profess her love for another man. Even if he knew how she felt about him…it still cut his heart to shreds to hear her say that she loved Will.

“M’ sorry…I should’ve told ye last night.”

“Yes you should have…but you didn’t…instead you were too busy coaxing me into your bed!”

Jack was a man of extreme patience and he could let things go…but he was only human and he could only let things go for so long. And that had been his breaking point. He grabbed her shoulders and spun her around to face him roughly. She looked up at him with wide eyes as he glared down at her. When he spoke his voice was low and strained as if he was trying to hold on to what little self restraint he had left.

“That’ll be quite enough of that missy! I did nothing of the sort! As I recall I didn’t have t’ do much coaxing t’ get ye in t’ me bed…ye ended up in it because ye wanted t’ be there.”

Elizabeth narrowed her tea colored eyes at him before raising her hand and swinging at him to strike him. Out of the corner of his eye Jack caught this and snatched her wrist in mid swing before she could hit him. Yanking her up against him he then backed her up so that he was pinning her to the railing with his weight.

“Now now dearie…that’s not very nice.”

“Go to hell!”

“Been there…an’ I don’t plan on going back…at least not any time soon love.”

“Oh…you’re infuriating Jack Sparrow!”

“Captain…Captain Jack Sparrow darling.”

“Yes…yes I know your bloody title! Let go of me!”

“Not until ye give me yer word that ye won’t be slapping me face when I do unhand ye. So how bout it?”

“Fine! Now let go!”

“Yer word darling?”

“You have my word that I will not strike you…now let go!”

Jack let go of her wrist and she lowered her hand to her side clenching her fist angrily. He chuckled at her anger making her clench her fist even tighter. Unable to handle anymore of him at the moment she pushed past him and stormed into the cabin slamming the door loudly. Gibbs who had just emerged from below decks stared at Jack with a puzzled look on his face.

“Morning Captain…what was all that bout?”

“It would seem Miss Swann is a bit unhappy with me a the moment.”

“Aye…reckon she’ll be in such a foul mood all day?”

“One can only hope not Gibbs.”

Jack strode over to his cabin and jiggled the handle on the door only to find it locked. Frowning he glanced back over his shoulder at Gibbs who was trying his hardest to stifle his laughter.

“I’ll be damned…the little wench locked me out…of me own cabin.”

“How ye planning on getting back inside sir?”

“Jus’ give her a bit t’ cool off…she’ll give in first…m’ sure of it.”

Inside the cabin Elizabeth’s eyes narrowed as she sat by the door pressing her ear up against it to listen to Jack. So he thought her weak did he? Well she was going to show him just what she was made of. In a low voice she spat out her frustration at him.

“I’ll give in first will I? Ha! Unlikely Captain Sparrow…you obviously don’t have the slightest idea of whom you’re dealing with. We’ll see who gives in first…and I can assure you that it won’t be me!”

Pacing the floor in the room she occasionally glared at the door. Thoughts of Will began to creep into her mind making knots start to twist in the pit of her stomach. How was she ever going to stand up and address the Brethren Council? How could she possibly condemn Will…one of the men she loved…to death? Feeling tears sting her eyes she walked over to the bed and flung herself down onto it face first. Sure that the mattress would absorb the sounds of her sobs she began to cry. She knew that Will had done wrong and should be punished for his crimes. But she wasn’t sure if she could stand there and condemn him to death while he stood there in shackles staring at her with those big pleading brown eyes of his. The knots in her stomach started to tighten making her whimper in pain as more tears leaked out of the corners of her tea colored eyes. What was she going to do? There was nothing left of her relationship with Will…at least not now that he knew she had been intimate with Jack. And she wasn’t prepared to walk away from Jack…even if she was angry with him at the moment…she knew that she couldn’t be without him. The knots in her stomach tightened again making her curl up into a ball. How had things gotten so terribly complicated?

A/N: Okay things look grim for Elizabeth…will she condemn Will to death? Please read and review…let me know what you think so far!
