chapter 9
"O my," I sighed, feeling a damp chill creep down my spine at the mention of the spectral ship. "Was she haunted?"

"Nay, but there's something magical about her, I know that. Out of necessity I'll tell you that I took on a splendid new crew, and all I lacked, for a while, was a first mate. But we sailed all over, pillaging and plundering and looting and all those pleasant things that we pirates are wont to do. About a year later, I once again found my dear friend Bill Turner. This was a joyous occasion and I took him on my crew immediately, but he refused the position of first mate. Luckily, or unluckily, you decide later, around that time a man came aboard my the name of Judas Lavaliton, and he became our first mate. In short, soon after we set sail for the treasure of Isle De Muerta, a long had dream of mine, he convinced my crew to mutineer against me. However, I escaped off "my new island", as he called it, by bartering passage with my old smuggler friends from so many years ago. Before Lavaliton left me, he revealed to me his real name and that he had been the murderer of my first crew. In hindsight, I think that somehow, deep inside of me, I knew all along."

"But who was he?" I interrupted. I hadn't meant to stop Jack, it just sort of...popped out.

"All in due time, love, all in due time. Now, you may think I'm skipping and tripping over myself, but when the story is told, you can decide if what I've abridged is important, which I don't think it is. Either way, I'm moving on. Whats' really important is that when that filthy excuse for a bastard pig marooned me, he sent Bill Turner, who i believe was going by some nonsensical name like Bootstrap at the time, to the depths of the sea. The had also taken my beloved "Pearl". Now, love, I can tell you that my mutinous first mate's name was not Judas Lavaliton, as he'd told me, But Judas Barbossa. Yes, I know you were done wrong by him as well. But not nearly as wrong as I. Now, to jump ahead a bit, I would later discover that in our time apart, Bill had married and had a son of his own called William. About this time I would also reclaim my ship for a short while, only to lose it again to my archnemesis. But that's another story. Later. For now, let me reveal to you something that less than, say, three people in the world know about me, and then perhaps you'll realize a bit more of why I need your help so badly. My name is Jack Sparrow. That's the known part. The secret part is that Sparrow isn't my rightful name. It was my mother's maiden name. What my name should be, what my father's name is, is quite different. My father's name is Judas Barbossa."
