Tierra Pura (pure earth) Valley
Chapter 9; Tierra Pura (pure earth) Valley
Crack, thump, clash
Furniture flies in the air, bed sheets lay shredded on the marble floor. Rain bellows with rage. Younglings, coward away from her. That human loving vampire is beginning to be isanisance to her behind. Something happened the night before and Rain sensed it. A feeling of vigilance and caution, but of what? Of who?
A new day is coming and she must rest. Rain stares out to the sunrise. She contemplates at the bright yellows and oranges that once gave her comfort. Her tainted soul calls out for purity and only one person can give it to her. The Dynasty has still not given her the name of her savior, but her time will come. Once she finds him or her, they will giver her, the tranquility she desires.
First they must suffer; they all must suffer.
Deacon helps Riddick pack the weapons and supplies they will need for their trip to the other side of Belloso; Tierra Pura Valley.
Saia, Jason and the Doc will stay with the children, while the others are away.
Jack, Riddick and Deacon take off in a dune buggy, their destination is but eight hours away. They don’t know exactly what they are looking for, but they expect to know when and if they find it.
After a long strenuous ride they finally arrive. Entering the borderline Deacon stops at the sight of the destroyed city.
“Tierra Pura?” Deacon asks stepping out of the dune buggy
Jack is right behind him, “It means Pure Earth, but so much for that”
Deacon frowns at her, “I didn’t know you knew Spanish”
“I don’t. I just know,” she answers. Deacon opens his mouth but Riddick shoots him a look as if to say, ’Leave it alone’ and he quickly dismisses it.
They make their way into the Valley and find it isolated. Not one single person is in eyes view.
“Spooky huh?” Deacon tries to make Jack laugh to no avail. Riddick sees the concern in her face.
“Are you OK?” Riddick asks and Jack nods. They come across a motel and pull into the parking lot. The office is empty. Riddick brakes into one of the rooms and they settle in for the night. Deacon takes a room three doors down to theirs, wanting to stay close, but giving them privacy as well. After nightfall Deacon takes a long shower. He steps out and wraps in a towel, entering the bedroom. A shadow catches his attention and he whips around.
“Damit! You almost gave me a heart attach man” Deacon tells Riddick who’s standing in the shadows of the room. Riddick and Deacon engage in a more detailed conversation of Deacon’s experience with the vampires.
**Meanwhile in Jack’s room***
Jack tosses and turns in her bed. Unaware of the danger lurking just outside her door.
“Jaaaack” her name is called and Jack jumps out of bed. Her senses are going haywire. Jack smells the scent of ammonia again. For the first time she doesn’t even notice Riddick is gone. Jack hears her name being called, like a menacing whisper. She walks across the dark room, towards the presence standing just outside her door. Jack feels strangely fascinated, almost like a connection to whoever is calling her name. She reaches for the door and slowly opens it.
*** Deacon’s Room***
“I need some fresh air. Watch Jack OK?” Riddick says. Deacon will lay his life down for Jack, Riddick is not questioning that, but he wants to make sure he understands that she needs to be under constant surveillance now. Deacon nods, he knows that Riddick isn’t going out for just some fresh air; he needs answers and he needs them now.
Before stepping outside Riddick opens his nostrils and takes in the unusual scent. In a flash he’s running out of the room with Deacon close behind. From the moment they step out Riddick sees the door to his room is wide open. He rushes inside, but Jack is gone.
