chapter 9

here you guys go, a short chap...but theres gonna be a 2nd part to this...i just wanted to remain true to my promised update

Cleitus entered a dimly lit room with food scattered in every available space.

“Hephaistion, “ he whispered.

Cleitus wasn’t used to the small amount of given light, “Hephaistion,” he whispered again.

Hephaistion came in from another room, holding a bowl of fruit in his hand.

“Yes Cleitus,” he questioned.

Cleitus froze that moment in time. How he wished that Hephaistion was carrying his child, and that the room was full of light, and that he and Hephaistion would be together forever.

“Cleitus, any luck,” Hephaistion questioned bringing Cleitus back into reality.

He shook his head, “No, it seems Alexander is intent on finding you in this city. The docks are closely patrolled as is the city gates.”

Hephaistion looked into his bowl of fruit and said, “The ninth month is drawing near.”

“What will you do,” he questioned, “I don’t have the knowledge in helping you there, and if we seek the help of another Alexander will surely find you.”

“He will find us Cleitus, and I do not wish to put you in harms way. You are a good friend.”

“Is that all I will ever be,” he questioned above a whisper.

“Cleitus, for now it is all you can ask of me, please understand this.”

Cleitus closed the distance between Hephaistion and himself and gazed into the hazel blue eyes of Hephaistion.

“You are going back to him?”

“Yes…”

“Then I shall go back to Macedonia,” he replied while holding the pendant he gave Hephaistion in his hands, “If ever you need anything, you know where to find me.”

Cleitus left the room with those words.

It was a peaceful night. The stars were lighting up as little diamonds in the sky, and there was a gentle breeze to cool off anyone in the hot summer night. Olympias walked towards the palace gardens. She stopped for a second when she reached the entrance and then turned right. On the bench sat a figure clad in white. She walked towards the person sitting on the bench and sat down besides him.

“It is a beautiful night,” she said looking forward into the horizon.

“How did you know I was here,” the man asked.

“I knew where you were the whole time. I knew where your little hiding spot was and I know that Cleitus is no longer in this city.”

“Then why did you not tell Alexander?”

“He needed the time without you to realize what he had a chance of losing.”

“That whore, is he still here?”

“Yes, but no longer in his favor.”

“How is he?”

“Devastated that you left.”
