... is the greed for love

Chapter 8: ... is the greed for love

/"You will know, when you are calm... at peace... passive..."/

Luke slowly drifted to awareness, stretching sore muscles and coming to a realization that he was alone in the bed. A tinge of disappointment swept through him until he fought it down, knowing that Anakin had his duties in this era. Luke could lie around in bed all day- indeed, it seemed like a pretty good idea- but Anakin had pressing matters to attend to.

Slowly opening his eyes to the room- shades lowered for comfort and privacy- he asked himself, 'Did we just...?'

He was still sticky from the night's play.

Oddly, now that he was fully in control of his behavior, Luke found that his logical side had surrendered. He wasn't disgusted at all by who he had slept with. In fact... in some strange way... it seemed to make a kind of twisted sense.

Who else did he have that kind of connection with? The link had forged itself behind each of their subconscious selves- they were drawn to each other like a moon and its planet, a planet and its star. A symbiosis which created a bond unbreakable, a desire unavoidable.

It was only natural that two people so linked through the Force would need each other thus.

Forcing his lazy body to sit up, he ran a hand through his short hair. It was the twenty-ninth. There was one more day in the year. Luke knew his history well. The Empire would be established tomorrow- ushering in a new age of darkness, a new dating system.

It was five days from Luke's birth.

He had felt the agony his fetal self had experienced when his mother had touched him- felt her smoldering glare afterwards. What would happen when he was born? There was something inevitably wrong with time travel- it created paradoxes of spirits. Two people with one soul could not exist at once.

Would he be sent back to his own time? The idea brought a mixture of relief and regret. He didn't know how long had progressed in his own time- was it days? Weeks? Or merely minutes?

Was this all one psychotic dream?

With a dizzy groan, he ambled over to the 'fresher, looking in the mirror. The circles under his eyes had all but vanished, with only two nights worth of sleep. Was Anakin's effect that profound, that it eased his restless nights and his nightmares? With a shy grin, Luke couldn't help but remember something Anakin had murmured, half-asleep.

/"You give me so much peace..."/

Would anyone else understand? Although he couldn't form the words in his mind, he felt that he had reconciled the identities of this strange man.

Homosexuality had long been tolerated by the Republic- some cultures even encouraged it- but the Empire had made it almost illegal. Any member of the military found to even possess homosexual erotica would be permanently discharged, and homosexuality was taught as a blight upon sentientdom by schoolteachers. While Luke had not held any particular negativity about homosexuality, he had never expected to find that he was gay.

However... this was a completely different matter. Although Luke was now confident that he had accepted it, he had no idea if his friends- family- back in his own time would tolerate the idea that Luke Skywalker, Hero of the Alliance, had fallen in love with the man who became Darth Vader.

The man who was- there that mental block was again, forbidding him from admitting that final piece of data. They shared blood, and a bond even deeper than blood. But Luke still couldn't surpass that final stumbling block.

How would Anakin react?

With a start, Luke realized that perhaps one source of Vader's rage had been learning the true identity of his lover.

A headache was swiftly making its way behind Luke's eyes, so he stepped into the 'fresher, and set the water on COLD.

Chancellor Palpatine- Darth Sidious- was pleased. One of the seeds was planted- Anakin knew the truth about his mentor. The boy was on his way right now to inform the Jedi Masters.

Palpatine knew he had to act swiftly to plant the other seed. Donning his ebony robes of the Sith, he snuck through the hidden passages of his palace- he already thought of it as his exclusively. He had to procure the boy that Anakin had taken such an abrupt interest in.

His spydroids had informed him that the boy- identity unknown- was currently at the Wayfarer Inn three megablocks away. Starting his airspeeder- a sporty red model with some... custom modifications... Palpatine rose the cloaking device and took off.

Luke knew that the shiver that passed through his entire self was not from the icy water of the shower. Moving quickly, he rushed to dress.

The door opened on a single command from the Master of the Sith.

And Luke screamed.
