Get some sleep
Hard cruel hands holding her down. Bruises, raw wounds, cuts, ropes hitting her back over and over.
A man pushing onto her, into her. His foul smell filling her throat. “Bitch, get what you deserve…..take it…”
She screamed loudly, jolting upright in her bed, right into the arms of Riddick.
”Calm down.” His deep voice whispered into her ear.
She shuddered, trying to pull away, but he held onto her, not letting her go. He held her still till her shaking stopped.
“I…what are you doing in here?”
“Kendra got me. She was told to if anything happened to you.”
“So that’s why she wanted to..”
“No, after you left the dinner I told her to look out for you.”
“Why would you care what happens to me?”
He just shrugged. She looked up at him, as though searching his eyes for something. Taking a deep breath, she started to speak in a soft voice.
“After my parents had me, we moved to a city where we could get lost in the crowd, so we wouldn’t be hunted. We lived there till I was around thirteen. I had…I had dreams, that something bad would happen. I should have said something, but I didn’t. Mom was killed first, a couple weeks later dad was beaten to death.”
Her voice hitched, as she pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. “Then they chased me. I was sent to an orphanage. Nobody wanted a nearly grown girl, and I was stuck. I’m sure you can figure out what happened there, the men there were no better then the mercs who chased you.”
She snorted at a thought that occurred to her. “Least they taught me about piloting.”
She shook her head again and stood, crossing over into the bathroom and splashing water on her face. The look at herself in the mirror had her both irritated and tired. She’d stopped waking up in tears while she’d lived back in the settlement, and here, around him, her past came back to haunt her again. She did not wanting him to see this side of her, the side still in pain and guilt over what had happened to the family she had.
“You were a kid.”
She shook her head. “I could have said something….and I didn’t…I’ve paid for it..”
“Not your fault, nobody’s fault but the ones who did it. Get some sleep.”
With that he walked out and left her there alone.
