Chapter 8 - Need For Plans

Oria watched as Maccus stalked away from her chuckling to himself at finally having something with which to destroy her as she had destroyed him all those years ago. She let out a long sigh and headed back down to her hammock sleep resting high on her agenda. The door was barely open when Jones appeared in front of her pushing it open the rest of the way, “I have another task for you before we reach this ship.”

:/

Jack reached for a rum bottle and paused as one was held out to him, he took it from the proffered hand gratefully and smiled till he saw who it was, “Hello Jack, miss me?” He almost dropped the rum but managed to keep enough of a grasp of it and watched as the figure stepped into the light.

“Oria?” He whispered in disbelief. She smiled faintly as she stepped into the candle-light and glanced behind him to make sure that no one else was there, “You’ve come back?” Her eyes snapped back to his with alarming speed and a faint smirk lit her lips. This wasn’t the same Oria he was used to, this was something ruthless, she was still there but had taken a back seat to what ever creature was now facing him with that glint in her eyes.

“Only on business.” She stepped up to him till he could feel the heat radiating off her and that all too familiar scent of jasmine, spices and ocean. He glanced down as her fingers worked at the buttons on his sleeve, he scowled and watched as she pushed it up to his elbow. Her fingers trailed almost regretfully over the scars her sword had made in his arm all those years ago before turning his arm over. Her hand wrapped about it tightly and she met his gaze without question.

“Oria?” She smiled slightly and glanced away before settling her resolve, she had to do this. Her eyes met his hopeful ones again.

“Time’s up.” Jack shouted as a burning erupted beneath her palm on his arm and he snapped it away sharply staring at the pentagram and entwined dragon tattooed there. His eyes fled to hers in disbelief, “He’s coming Jack and there’s no where to run. You can’t talk yourself out of this one.” She turned to step back into the darkness only for Jack to grasp her wrist hard enough to make her pause. Slowly she glanced back.

“Oria…” He let go slowly not knowing why but knowing deep down it was more than necessary.

“It’s just business Jack.” She stepped half-way into the darkness.

“Oria, Beckett is looking for you, he wants to own the land and the sea.” Oria frowned and glanced back at him questioningly.

“What?”

“He wants the land and the sea under his control.” Jack repeated watching as she thought through the phrase, her eyes met his once more.

“Forget about me.” Jack scowled before noticing the glitter of another set of eyes and recognising it as a reference to what she had mentioned last time but not this. He nodded and watched as she stepped into the darkness, a few moments later he raised the lantern and looked into the darkness, nothing but a pool of water was left. Jack glanced down at the new tattoo and puzzled over it before tugging the sleeve back down and heading back to Will with the rum.

:/

Maccus chuckled as they re-appeared on the Flying Dutchman and pushed her away slightly making her stumble. She turned furiously on him, “What’s so funny?”

“It’s not just him that’s got caught up in your twisted illusions this time. They always say third time lucky don’t they, well this is definitely my lucky day, I can watch you fall to pieces as Jones eradicates Sparrow from existence.” Oria glared at him but chose against launching a full scale attack on him, that would only antagonize him into telling Jones. She turned and stalked away as he chuckled.

“It is done?” Oria nodded at Jones question and watched as he smiled proudly and disappeared back into his cabin. Oria sighed and ran her fingers through her hair roughly before following him down, she might as well get some sleep before they reached the wrecked ship. That’s all she seemed to be doing since returning, sleep, eat a bit, drink and sleep again. She needed to find a way to destroy Maccus before he destroyed her and she needed to find it fast.

:/

Jack sank into his chair and tipped half of the rum down his throat before speaking to the Will, “Right so we need to find the key, the location of the chest and then the location of Davy Jones.” He started slightly when the only response he got was a mild snore and glanced around the tips of his boots to where Will was sprawled across the desk fast asleep. Jack rolled his eyes and downed a bit more of the rum before settling down to straighten out some of the knots that were twisting into one hell of a problem in front of his very eyes.

He paused half-way through his fiftieth swig and stared at Will… now that was an interesting coincidence.
