Chapter 8
Authors note:
So another chapter, I think I'm actually enjoying where this story is going. Its great to write, lots of fun actually and I hope you guys enjoy it. Please review and tell me what you think of it!
The storm had died down, the wind was no longer howling and the rain had slowed down to a drizzle. The darkened sky now showed a deep red sky on the horizon and a blazing orange sun beginning to rise. Jack stared out the window of his cabin, it must be about sunrise he sighed and gave one last look at Lizzie. He had wiped away the blood from her head and kept her wrapped up to stay warm. She was still unconscious and he didn’t know when she would wake up. Gibbs has taken over the wheel since Jack and Lizzie’s accident and would most likely need to be relieved. Jack sighed; he knew staying in here wasn’t helping anybody so he exited to the cabin for some fresh, sea air. He stepped outside the cabin and took a deep breath, the sea air always made things that little bit more bearable for Jack. He walked up the stairs to the wheel and saw not Gibbs, but Cotton at the wheel
“You alright there, Mr Cotton? Want me to take over?” Jack inquired, staring at the man in question.
“Wind in ye sails, wind in ye sails”” Squawked the parrot, and Jack took this as a ‘yes.’ He felt extremely tired, but did not want to go back to the stuffy cabin just yet. He walked round the deck, checking that the ship was still in order, the storm didn’t seem to have caused too much damage, nothing was damaged beyond repair and this made him smile slightly. After an hour of walking round the deck, Jack was exhausted and knew he couldn’t put off returning to the cabin. With a last breath of the salty air, he stepped back into the cabin and was immediately hit with a wave of hot heat.
Again he sighed, a habit he had only recently picked up, and glanced over at Lizzie. She hadn’t moved since earlier and Jack just didn’t know what to do. How long would she sleep? Jack felt his eyelids drooping and gently climbed over Lizzie. He got comfortable on the left side of the bed and held her carefully in his arms. He began muttering the words to the lullaby he sang at Tortuga:
“Aloha ‘oe, aloha ‘oe.
E ke onaona noho I ka lipo….”
At that moment sleep overcame Jack and he began snoring lightly.
Lizzie’s head hurt, it hurt a lot actually. She didn’t think she could move so resorted to opening her eyes. She couldn’t tell where she was, the eyesight was blurry and her head hurt too much to focus. She was laid on something soft, she discovered. She slowly attempted to get up but was stopped. Something was around her waist. Rope? She squinted slightly and tried to make sense of the blurry shapes around her. After a few minutes, her eyesight began to get better. She was in a cabin, and was sat up in a bed. Then at that moment she looked next to her and screamed at the top of her lungs.
Jack was awoken suddenly by a very high pitched scream. His ears were ringing and his head was pounding but the scream made him instantly jump to his feet and grab his pistol. Jack looked and realized it was Lizzie who made the high pitched scream. Must have had a nightmare he concluded and smiled slightly at the fact she was now awake. There was a sudden knocking at the door and a voice came from the other side of it
“Cap’n? Is everything alright? We heard a scream.” It was Gibbs and he sounded very worried and anxious.
“Everything’s fine, Gibbs. The lass just had a nightmare.” He heard Gibbs walk away from the outside of his door and turned his attention back to Lizzie. He frowned slightly as she still looked scared to death; she was pale and looked very frail, and was breathing deeply. She was huddled up in a corner of the bed and Jack went over to her and attempted to hug her. Shockingly she pulled away and tears began to form in her eyes. Jack looked surprised
“Luv, what’s wrong? Are you okay?” Jack was very shook up and worried at what had got Lizzie all upset and scared but what she said next nearly made him faint in shock. She stared at him for the longest time, and tears began to run down her face as she clutched the blanket closer to her body.
“Who…who are you?”
