Second to last chapter. Final chapter will be posted a little earlier than next Wednesday, because I have no chance of posting it then. I'm banking on Sunday though, so keep your eyes open.

Chapter 9

Caleb walked swiftly into the hospital foyer, having just received a call from Reid explaining the situation in very little detail (He planned to get more information later). Pogue had gone to pick up Sarah and Kate and bring them to the hospital, and would be there in a short while.

He got directions from a nurse and walked into the room. Reid was sitting by the bed, and the sight of him nearly made Caleb too scared to look at Tyler. He looked terrible, and Reid never broke down over anything. Caleb readied himself and looked at Tyler. His breath caught in his throat.

Almost every inch of exposed skin Caleb could see was bruised. There were finger marks around his neck and bloodied marks on his wrists where they must have been cut by ropes. He was unconscious, and looked like he could die at any moment.

Reid glanced up after several minutes and jumped as if he had only just noticed Caleb was there. A broken sob escaped his lips.

“This is all my fault…” he murmured, burying his face against Tyler’s side.

“It’s Chase’s fault, not yours,” said Caleb firmly. Reid looked at him. “Reid, what happened? Tell me everything.”

Reid shook his head. “I can’t… I don’t want to talk about it. I just want Tyler to be okay.” He looked away again, and Caleb realised that although Chase wasn’t around to hurt the two youngest anymore, they could still lose both of them. Too much damage had been done in the short time Chase had been there for either of them to be the same ever again.

“Reid, I think you need to talk about it.”

Reid’s head shot up and he glared at Caleb, the anger and helplessness he’d felt over the past few days shining through. “He controlled me completely, Caleb! I couldn’t do anything!” he growled, “He used my body to torture him and beat him and rape…” He sobbed loudly.

“It wasn’t your fault.”

“But what if now Tyler can’t stand to be around me because it brings back memories. What if he never gets over it? I just want him to be okay…”

“Did he know it was Chase in control, not you?”

Reid nodded. “He guessed it about three seconds before I, I mean Chase, grabbed him. He’s not stupid, he knows me too well.”

“Then he won’t blame you for it, and he won’t want you blaming yourself for it either.”

“No,” said another voice. They both jumped, and Tyler smiled at them. “I don’t blame you.”

Reid leapt to his feet. “Tyler…” he breathed, looking at loss for what to do.

“I’ll go get a nurse,” said Caleb, knowing they would need time to talk. Outside, he met with Pogue and the others and decided to explain the situation to them before doing anything else. The nurse could wait; Tyler wasn’t going to die in the next five minutes.
