Another Short Chapter

Lydia Nightshade: LOL! Of course I love Voltaire! Such a great voice can only be used for dark sarcasm! Just what the heck does he say after "While there's grannies left to trick"? I can't make out that one line. *pouts* Though Ex-Lover's Lover is one of my favourites. ;) Ah, like minded individuals... *huggles!* (I'm not usually this hyper either, just all of my offline friends think I'm nuts for listening to bands like this.) Ever hear Bella Morte? Or Inkubus Sukkubus? How 'bout the Cruxshadows?

Earen: No! No pointy things. Pencils inclusive. This one might be a little longer....

Datiye: Heehee, maybe I can toss you in as a barmaid in Tortuga? Ooh! You can have your own tavern in England! *goes off to plot* If anyone else wants a walk-on part, let me know!

Pickzee: I have an inferiority complex? Blame it on my english teachers and parents. Or me for listening to 'em, I guess. Whatever. *coughs* My track record for finishing is not of the best. *kicks stray plot bunny back into overcrowded cage* Barbossa'll show up after the slavers and after England. ;)

SwordsNSparrow: Heehee, I just can't see Jack as anything but playful for some reason.

Nita: Meet Nicole; Nicole, meet Nita. You'll both be sharing. Not very pirate-y, but :P You're not pirates.

Kary_Asakura: The slash is later, way later. Plot first.

Jack was leaning up on the wheel, his only task was keeping the Pearl steady and thereby giving him an excuse to watch what his crew was up to. Gibbs had abandoned trying to talk reason into the thick skull of Anamaria, apparently; choosing to teach her the finer points of sailing instead. Will was with Cotton, learning through demonstrations (since the parrot took some getting used to). The captain smiled at the sight of Cotton getting exasperated at his parrot for not mg thg things clearer and Will trying to hold back his own amusement.

The straights had opened further, revealing the promising ocean ahead. Jack figured that there would be two months, at least, before a safe port in England was reached; giving him plenty of time to teach Will a few tricks. And maybe take a ship or two while he was at it.

He wondered how Will would react to being in England again; and maybe the lad could give him a few answers as to why he was never told that Bootstrap had a family. Of course, Jack suspected that Gibbs knew something, but they were a long way from a tavern where he could bribe the older man into talking.

Letting his mind drift back to the open sea ahead, Jack watched the glittering water before him and continued to guide his ship.

***********

A week had passed now, and Will had stayed with Jack; not that the latter minded, or seemed to. Jack insisted on getting Will up at dawn to practice, pleased with the younger man's skill with a sword.

Right now, the two were taking a breather before the rest of the crew woke. Will sat on the steps leading up to the bridge, and Jack was balanced on the rail just above.

"Where are we going, anyway?" Will asked, shifting so his back was to the water.

Jack smiled, "England, lad. Maybe London if we can get past the navy, not that that's hard."

Will smiled, and Jack thought for a minute. "You'll be able to show me where you had lived..." the captain ventured, judging Will's reactions.

A shadow seemed to pass over Will's features, "Whates ths there had been rebuilt, but not by anyone from my family. A fire consumed my home... And my mother."

"I'm sorry."

Will shook his head, "It was a long time ago."

There was an uneasy silence before Jack jumped from his perch. "Well, let's wake the crew, shall we?"

Sorry it's so short, and so late. My muse has gone into a comatose state. A bit more plot development and action next chapter (I'm hoping).
