Stith and Akima sat down on their own separate barstools in a bar at a very large party. It was a Friday night; everyone that worked on the Valkyrie was off for the four-day weekend. There are nine days in a New Earth week, five working days for the Valkyrie crewmembers. But tonight was special; it was the annual Christmas party that the New Earth council held every year on Christmas day. Since Cale and the others basically saved Human kind, they always had an invitation. Akima and Stith enjoyed the drinks they had to offer, while Preed was ‘getting his groove on’ as Akima colorfully refers to it. Cale and Korso were at the other way end of the bar talking. The noise level made their conversation inaudible to Stith and Akima. “So, how are you doing on the Human culture?” Akima asked Stith. She took a drink from her highball glass and shrugged “Okay, I guess. You Humans have some interesting music.” She said. Akima raised an eyebrow “What kind do you ?” s?” she asked, then took a drink from her melon ball in a drinking glass “Almost everything. Very powerful stuff.” She said. Akima laughed “I’m glad you like it.” she said. Stith slammed down her glass “Barkeep, another one!” she said. The bartender nodded and began filling her a new glass. “Stith, that’s your fifth one, what’s up?” Akima asked “Nothing, I know we’re friends, but I don’t know if I should be telling you this stuff.” Stith replied. The bartender gave her the glass; Stith began drinking “What kind of stuff? Guy stuff, work stuff, what?” Akima asked as she took another drink. “Akima, if you must know, it’s guy stuff.” She said and continued drinking “Guy stuff, eh? Preed not being faithful?” Akima asked. She looked at Preed, who was trying to pick up some woman. Stith shook her head “No, not at all. I don’t really care if Preed cheats on me. I cheat on him, so it’s like clockwork. We both agreed to this until we’re sure of a relationship. It’s just that….” Stith trailed off as she took another sip “Just that what? Come on Stith, you can tell me; I’m your friend. You can trust me.” She said and ordered another drink. Her third of the night “Well, it’s just that Preed isn’t as…. endowed …as I thought he was.” Stith said. She blushed slightly, because she actually never talked about this kind of stuff to Akima before. “Aaaah, I see. Preed’s not very satisfying in bed, eh?” Akima said while nodding her head in a sly, understanding way. Stith nodded and ordered another drink “He’s not very strong in the stamina department either, if you catch my drift.” She told her. Stith felt a little more relaxed; either from the five glasses of beer or that she was finally talking about this sort of thing. “Really? Preed’s not that very good looking anyway, but then again, I’m a Human.” She said. Stith laughed “No, he isn’t that good looking, he’s alright I guess. Also, just look at me, I’m a picky girl and I want to be satisfied. I can’t finish myself off all of the time.” Stith said. Akima laughed and nodded “Well, since we’re talking about this, how’s Cale?” Stith asked while holding her drink in the air, waiting for a response. Akima huffed “Me and Cale? I don’t know, we’ve never done it. We’ve gotten close, but never right down to it.” She said as she began drinking her melon ball. Stith looked at Akima “Hmph, well, he’s a fag.” she said. Akima looked at Stith “Cale is not gay.” She said. Stith nodded “Well, if he’s not, he’s mighty fucking stupid. If I was him, I’d try to hit it all that I could.” Akima laughed “Stith!” she said. Stith laughed and shook her head “I was just speaking my mind.” She said. Akima looked a little bit into Stith’s eyes “Are you drunk?” she asked. Stith looked at Akima with slightly weary eyes “No, no, no, no. I always keep a cool head when it comes to drinking.” She said. “No, you’re drunk. You would have been offended by now if you weren’t.” Akima told here. Stith set her glass down “Akima, I admit it. I’m a little smashed right now.” Akima laughed “I think I am too, but I’m never a judge of character.” She said. Stith looked over at Preed, who just then got slapped by the girl he was picking up. “Aw, how sad.” Stith said to herself. “Hey Stith,” Akima said to draw her attention. Stith turned and looked to her “What?”
“Have you ever ‘experimented’ before?” Akima asked. Stith raised an eyebrow “Experimented?” She asked “You know, like doing it with another woman?” Akima told her “Uhh, not really.” Stith answered. She was still a little confused why Akima was asking her this “Ever wanted to?” she inquired. Stith thought about it, but her mind wasn’t totally in the thinking route “With Preed, I damn near wish it.” She laughed. Akima chuckled “Want to give it a go?”. Stith and Akima went up to the hotel they were allowed to stay at. All invitees with a special card were allowed one night and one-day stay for free of charge, fully paid for by the New Earth committee. They went up to the floor they stayed on, the very top. It pays to save an entire species for utter annihilation and provide them with a home. Stith and Akima stumbled out the elevator, laughing at things they had been talking about. They went to the middle of the hall “Your room or mine?” Stith joked. Akima chuckled “Mine. It’s really nice.” She said. Stith nodded and Akima opened the door. A huge bed was over towards the middle of the very back wall; they were going to need a big one. Two oak nightstands stood on the side of the bed, and a small window over to the left hand side of the same wall. A bathroom to the left, kitchen / bar to the right.
