Pawn Of Darkness

Chapter 1

The breeze danced across the curtains, making them sway to an unheard rhythm of a distant song. Moonlight drifted in from the open balcony doors casting an almost eerie glow around the room. The corners still stood steadfast in their darkness, like they were clinging to it on purpose. The wind made a pleasant sound and brought with it the smell of flowers from the gardens below.
Arianna Onalith stood staring out of the balcony doors. Her long white gown clung to every curve of her shapely body. From the distinct swell of her breast it tapered to the flat plain of her stomach. Then flared again at the roundness of her hips. It covered her legs and pooled on the floor around her feet. Her eyes seemed like perfectly cut oval sapphires as they scanned the horizon.
Suddenly, the wind came up and she moved a delicate hand to swipe a wayward strand of wavy, waist-length black hair from her face. Her full red lips settled in a deep frown as she watched the sky, yet there was not one line to mar the creamy porcelain complexion of her face.
She had sensed something familiar in the force days before, now she knew for sure. He was coming. The thought filled her with joy and dread at the same time. She wasn't sure which feeling was stronger. She did know that he was seeking her out and the knowledge of that didn't sit well with her. His presence represented a part of her life she had pushed and shoved, struggling to bury far behind her. Now as she felt his ship descending from the sky it was as if someone had turned on a light in that part of her.
Her first instinct was to run, but she decided it would do her no good. He would find her if he was truly intent on it and judging from the lengths he had traveled so far he was pretty intent.
She sighed deeply and turned back towards the darkened room behind her. She would have to face him. She would have to make it very clear that her past was right where she wanted it, in the past.

A dark shadow stood sentinel against the far corner of the room, where the moonlight could not hope to touch. A sneer spread across his twisted face as he watched the white clad woman at the window. He knew she had felt the presence approaching through the force. It was too soon. He had not had the time he needed to mold her yet. She was not ready to face the others. Still she was his and he had no desire to lose his servant. He knew what it could mean for him. He smiled at the expression on Arianna's face. She was almost as unhappy at the visitor as he was. Perhaps he would not have to interfere and give himself away after all. Perhaps his puppet would handle things for him.
