"Elizabeth!!" Governor Swann called upstairs to his sixteen year old daughter. The pretty Elizabeth came quickly, her brown eyes sprakling with the carefree happiness of youth. "Yes father?"

I've been called away on some urgent business and will not return until late tonight. In light of your recent escapades, I've asked Captain Norrington to stay with you until my retun." The said Captain gave a stiff bow to the teenager, who was quite the lovely young woman. "I expect you to obey him as you would me? Is that understood my dear?"

She sighed. "But father, can't I go with you?" She begged, batting her long eye lashes at him. "No Elizabeth. This is no place for a young lady--it is official business and I would not be allowed to bring you into the meetings. You are much better off here with the good captain."

Elizabeth stole a glance at Captain Norrington, trying not to pout. The man was so stiff and boring, not to mention strict. She was sure she would have no fun while he was around. She sighed again and looked at her father. "When are you leaving?" She asked, trying not to sound mad or sulky.

"In just a moment dear. Try not to let this ruin your day" he hugged her tight. "Be my good daughter and make me proud. Thank you again Captain." Norrington bowed and watched as Gov. Swann wnet to his carriage and disappeared.

Elizabeth sighed and looked up at Norrington. "So, what now?" She asked. Norrington raised an eyebrow. "Surely Miss Swann you are passed the age when you need to be constantly entertained by another. I am sure there are books you can read, or some needlework to complete, or a nice walk in the gardens, which I would accompany you on of course"

She made a face at him. "You need not get so snippy Captain." She told him sharply. "I was just asking a simple question." "My dear Miss Swann," he said, his tone harboring ill-hid frustration. "I am not impressed by that tone, nor do I wish to hear it again? Is that clear, or must I illustrate my desire further? I do not like to be disobeyed or disrespected, especially by young ladies"

She sniffed. "I was not trying to ess ess you Captain Norrington." She told him in a prim tone. "I was merely saying that you need not be so rude. I do not like to spoken rudely to, just as most people do not."

"Young lady---watch that tone. Is. That. Clear?" Norrington said condescendingly, clearing entirely unthrilled with his duty today of watching her. "I, as always, have paper work to be completed, and your father has kindly lent me his office seeing as I need to be here at all times. Go amuse yourself Miss Swann---and do try to behave" he turned on his heel and marched out of the room.

She rolled her eyes. "Try to relax." She muttered as she watched him stomp off.

Elizabeth stood there for a moment, unsure as what to do. Then she got an idea. She knew staying in the house with stick-up-his-butt man would be terribly boring, so she would just leave! With that thought in mind she hurried upstairs to her room and threw open the trunk at the foot of her bed.

There under a pile of silk shawls were the clothes she had worn many times when she wanted to get away from her stuffy life. It was a boy's outfit, and with it on along with a cap she passed very well as a young boy walking on the street. As a boy Elizabeth could do things she would never be able to do as a girl. She could go fishing, go into blacksmith shops, talk anyway she wanted to, beat the other young boys at a game or marbles, and so many other things

Grinning, Elizabeth hurridly changed into her freedom clothes as she liked to call them, and when she was done she looked just like one of the many boys that walked around the island. When she was in this get-up she called herself Eli. She smiled. Well time to take Eli for a walk! She thought, and quietly snuck down the stairs. There was no one around, so it was easy for "Eli" to get out of the house unnoticed. She hurried down the driveway as fast as she could, never looking back.

Eli enjoyed the morning by playing marbles and adding quite a few to her secret collection of them. She didn't notice how busy the street had become as the time passed; many people running everywhere and shouting everything.

It was then that Will Turner, just turned seventeen as of three days prior, was hurrying back from making a deliverty for the blacksmith shop where he worked. He was late coming back, due to a squabble with the buyer, who wanted to haggle over the price of the magnificent sword.

Due to his haste, he was not watching where he was going and before he knew what was happening, he had smacked into someone and tumbled right over the body of that person and into the middle of a marble game. "Ow! Sorry, didn't see you there---"

He paused as he looked up and saw curls poking out from under a cap, and eyes that belonged to his dearest friend, Elizabeth. He looked stunned, then got up. "Excuse me--would you be willing to run some errands for some coin?" he asked Elizabeth, trying to think of a way to get her into the shop without exposing her first.

Elizabeth, trying to hide her blushing face from the other boys, stood up. "Yeah sure. Why not?" She said in her gruffest voice. "Good! Come inside, I will give you the package" he opened the door of the shop and entered first, waiting for her to follow.

As soon as she entered and the door closed, he crossed his arms over his chest. "Elizabeth---what in the heavens are you doing? Do you know how dangerous this could be if people found out you were a girl? They could---could---*violate* you"

She made a face at him as she tucked her hair back under her cap. "Do you realize how many times I've this kind of thing, dear Will?" She asked casually. Having finished fixing her cap, she began to explore the shop.

"What? Elizabeth! I worry, I care about you, what if someone hurt you? Of all the foolish things to do! Does your father know you do this?" She shrugged as she picked up a sword.

"Yes. He restricts me to my room whenever he finds out." She grinned and aimed the sword at him. "Care to engage in a little sword play?" She asked coyly.

Governor Swann is delusionaill ill thought If I caught my daughter doing that, I'd tan her hide!!

Will smirked as an idea popped into mind. "Alright" he tossed her a sword "Ready?" "I was born ready, Mr.Turner." She said, pleased that he was going to fight with her. She got in the proper stance and waited, figuring she'd let him make the fimovemove.

And he did indeed make the first move. Before she could even think to respond to his actions, he moved forward and picked her up and tossed her over his shoulder. In her surprise, the sword was released from her hand and it clattered to the floor along with his. He started towards the back room, where he and the owner of the shop had their rooms.

"Will!" She gasped. "What do you think you are doing?! Unhand me this instant!" She slapped his back with one small hand, totally shocked at his actions.

"I will NOT unhand you!" WIll answered quickly, kicking the door shut. "In fact, because I am your friend and care for what happens to you, I'm going to take you *IN* hand!" he ignored the slaps to his back and proceeded towards his bed.
