Let It Happen
The street was dark. I couldn’t see anyone, but I knew they were there, I could feel them. They were watching, and listening to every move I made. I was scared, and there was nothing I could do to help myself, nothing at all. I knew if I stayed, they would take me somewhere I did not want to go; somewhere that I would never return from. Death awaited me there. I must run, run as fast as I can. Surely if I could make it further into the city, there would be others and then I would be safe. So I ran towards the only light I could see. It was like a beacon to bright purple, white, casting a glow upon its surrounds and me. I was getting closer; I was going to be safe. But then I saw him, a man, with black hair and brown eyes glowing from the light. He was the one with the purple light. At first I was weary of continuing towards him, but then instinct kicked in and I knew I could approach him, that he would be my savior from those behind me. I was safe.
This same dream has been plaguing me for weeks. I have not figured out it’s meaning as of yet. It troubles me a lot. Usually when I have these dreams, I know immediately what is to happen in the future and I can inform others so that they will be safe. But this time is different. This time it’s about me and that’s never happened before.
I’ve lived a somewhat simple life here on Kegan if not a sheltered one. My parents both were killed during the war with the Empire when I was 8 and my Aunt Alorn raised me with my 3 cousins, Mandis, Arien, and Rozzan. But I was always slightly different from the rest of them. I was the strange one, the one who dreamed of things that came to be.
“Cintre are you up yet? I need your help with breakfast.” Rozzan called to me through the door to my room. She was my oldest cousin, exactly 4 months older then I, and my best friend and confidant. She was the sister I always wanted. “Yes, Roz, I am up, well barely. I’ll be there in just a moment.” I answer back as I begin to arise from the bed and head to the refresher. I splashed some cold water on my face to try to remove the apprehension caused by the dream; it didn’t work. I brushed my hair out and pulled in back with a leather band, grabbed by boots and headed downstairs to help Rozzan.
“You don’t look well Cin? Was it that dream again?” Rozzan inquired of me. I sighed, and shook my head yes. “ I don’t know what it means and that scares me, Rozzan. Yet at the same time I am intrigued by the man with the purple lightsaber. If you could see him, he is quite handsome. I am afraid of him, yet oddly drawn to him at the same time. He has this light in his eyes that burns into me, as if trying to touch my very soul.” I sigh again and look out the window upon the town below me. “Rozzan, maybe I am crazy. I just don’t know what to make of it anymore.” “Maybe your not suppose to understand it, maybe this time you just let it happen as you saw it.” Rozzan replies as she hands me some plates to set the table. I head towards the table as Rozzan continues. “I think it is time that you had some happiness in your life. You deserve it; after all you have done for everyone in this community. I’ve never had a premonition in my life, but I think your life is about to change for the better.” “You really believe that? I am just to allow it to happen? It could be the end of me.” I state as I finish setting the table and turn to face her. “Yes. Let it happen Cintre, for once, let it happen.” Rozzan replies as she wraps her arms around me in a soothing hug. I find myself wondering, what it would feel like to be held by the mysterious man in my dreams.
________________________________________________________________________
The festival of Ilius is today. It is mostly a gathering of the younger residents of the surrounding villages. Many times unions are made from this festival that last a lifetime. This was how my own mother and father met long ago. For me, it is not the same. I feel left out among these people. I just don’t belong. Rozzan, on the other hand, has had her eye on Farion for years, and lately he seems to have taken notice to her. For her sake I hope that this is her year.
“Look, Cintre! There he is!” Rozzan squeals at me as she grabs my arm, pulling me further into the crowds. “Then go and talk to him, you have been swooning over him for years, and I think it is high time that you get it over with. At least for my sake, I can’t take it much longer.” I reply with a laugh. “Oh, your just jealous that I like someone here. You on the other hand find something wrong with them all. Like Ander there, you state he’s too short, yet he is a good 4 centimeters taller then you! And Janem, you state he has the wrong hair color for you. I think his red locks are quite catching, but no, you don’t want all your children to have red hair like you and him!” Rozzan counters back at me with that and then drags me further into the festival. “I can’t help being particular about a man, at least I know what I want. I want….I….I don’t know what I want!” I shriek back at her. “I know who you want, Cintre. And you know too.” Rozzan replies. “I…I do, but that doesn’t help when I don’t know who he is or where to find him.” I spit back at her. “Like I said before, just let it happen, Cin. ht?”ht?” I look at her, roll my eyes, and reply, “Alright, let it happen, easier said then done. But I will trust you in that advise.”
About that time Farion steps in to view again. I hear Rozzan sigh, and the try to cover up the squeal that escapes from her mouth. I can’t help but laugh at the situation. Let things happen she says. Well if they both just continue to be like this with each other nothing will ever happen. I have to intervene or else they will both grow old alone pining for the other.
“Farion! Hello, can you come here a moment?” I shout over the crowd. “What are you doing? He’s coming over now! Cin!” Rozzan whispers in my ear. I giggle and smile at her as innocently as I can. “Hi, Cintre, Rozzan. Uh, You’re looking especially beautiful today, Roz. What can I do for you Cintre?” , Farion states to me with a slight blush upon his cheeks. “Well, I think it is time you two got to know one another better. Your getting much too old to be acting like kids.” With this I grab Rozzan's left hand and Farion’s right hand and clamp them them together. “Now get to know each other!” I let go of their combined hands and turn and walk as fast as I can from the festival. I much prefer to spend my free time at the Big Rock Inn and Pub instead of this crazy festival with people falling all over each other. Rozzan on the other hand is where she belongs, finally.
I spent the rest of the day and early evening at the Pub, helping out and conversing with the old-timers. The hour was getting later then I realized so I decided to make my way home. Besides I wanted to know how things went for Rozzan and Farion. She was either going to be ecstatically happy or try to kill me. I was figuring on the first one. So inattentive I was being, that I did not see I had turned down a very dark street. The street was dark. I had a feeling I was being watched. I turned to look, but saw no one, but I knew they were there. I couldn’t see anyone, but I knew they were there, I could feel them. My dream was happening. I had to let it happen, I had no choice. I looked back to where I knew they had stopped, they were not going to do anything yet, but I knew I had to run. Let it happen. I look forward and see the purple light, far ahead. He’s here. So I run, towards him and towards my destiny. But then I saw him, a man, with black hair and brown eyes glowing from the light. He was the one with the purple light. “Hurry, get behind me!” He yells with fierce determination. I do as he asks. “You’ll be safe now.” He states and heads towards the guys that had been following me, who had appeared slightly behind my arrival. “Why are you chasing this girl?” He prods at the men. “Oh, we just wanted to talk to her, you know.”, one of them replies with a sneer. “Well, why don’t you “talk” to me instead.” The man with the lightsaber replied. With this he attacked. Slicing the first man in half, and taking the next one down by a swipe through his thigh. “Anyone else care to talk. Be my guest!” The stranger goads towards the three remaining men standing before us. They look at each other, shaking their heads, and turn and run from the way they had come.
“You’ll be safe for now, but I have to get you off this planet. They will return with more men.” He states to me with a grim smile touching upon his face. “ What do you mean, leave?” I’m not leaving, this is my home. All I have is here.” “You have far more waiting for you out there.” He sweeps his arm towards the stars above. “ The dream you had. I had it too.” He replies as he extinguishes his lightsaber and clips it to his belt. “You must trust me Cintre. I am here to help you.” He holds out his hand to me, and I take it. “I don’t know why, but I will trust you. I will let this happen.” With this he leads me through the dark streets to the spaceport nearby. “I am Kyp Durron, Jedi Master.” He states as we head towards a ship of silver and blue. “I am…” I start to answer. “I know who you are, Cintre Larien. Your parents fought with Master Skywalker during the war with the Empire. He has told me much about them…and you.” He says as we reach his ship and he keys in a code for the door to open. “What about my stuff? I need to tell Rozzan where I am going. She will worry.” “I have everything you will need, Cintre. It is best if no one knows where we are headed. It is too dangerous, and could cause harm to those you care for and love.” With this he heads into the ship. Let it happen, I hear Rozzan say again in my head. So I follow Kyp into the ship, and let it happen.
This same dream has been plaguing me for weeks. I have not figured out it’s meaning as of yet. It troubles me a lot. Usually when I have these dreams, I know immediately what is to happen in the future and I can inform others so that they will be safe. But this time is different.
