Fight It...

The drop of blood trickling down from her mouth shone in the morning light, and she pushed it away angrily with a finger. Putting a hand against her mouth, she snorted. “You’re pathetic.” She said with a low voice.

He laughed, kissing his knuckles. “Right. I am the pathetic one. You can see that you’re the one still on the floor, I hope ?” he asked, smirking. The fight was over.

She spat in front of him, coughing. “You’re the one who is pathetic, because you attacked me from behind. That’s both pathetic, and unfair.”

He shrugged. “You knew perfectly well what I was going to do. Don’t deny it.”

She straightened her shoulders, looking at him defiantly. “I hate you, Oz.”

He crossed his arms, looking at her smugly. “Right.”

He wasn’t, obliviously, believing her. She ran a hand over her face, sighing. She hated him, really ? No, that was a lie. That was her problem. She actually, loved him. And he knew it. He was her flaw, and she was his. Because he loved her. And she knew it.

She moved her golden hair out of her face, and tilted her head to the sun while sitting slowly, Indian style. “Don’t you, sometimes, want to forget everything you did ?”

He sat down. This was going to be long, he could tell. “Everything I did ?”

“As a free guy. Liberated from the Matrix.”

“No. Because I did that to free other people. I did that to help Neo, Morpheus, Trinity. To stop the war. Kila… Stop thinking about it. It’s too late. And in any ways, you wouldn’t have been happy being a slave. You’re too stubborn, too open minded to support it. You would have rejected the program. Or the program would have rejected you.”

She crawled to him, touching his face slowly. “I know. I know.” She said slowly, putting her forehead against his. He closed his eyes, breathing her in.

“Why not stay in Zion ? Find yourself a wife, have kids, and stuff like this ? Like lots of us did ? Like your brother did ?”

He shrugged, and wrapped his arms around her waist as she moved to straddle him, making herself more comfortable. “I wanted to do something more…real.”

She laughed. “Like anything is really real.”

“Listen…When I first left the Matrix, I was so angry at the world. Angry at the Machines. I wanted them to die because they kept me in a prison all my life ! So I went to Neo, told him I wanted to join them. But you ? I don’t understand. Why did you chose to go on the Neb ?”

She licked her lips, and looked at the sky, soft blue illuminating the world. “I don’t know. When I first entered Zion, I felt like…oppressed. Not in my own element. When I’m on board, I’m…me.”

“That’s why, when we’re in Zion, you’re always agitated ? Waiting anxiously for the leaving ?”

She nodded slowly, her forehead against his shoulder. He felt her move more than saw it, and stroked her hair softly, relishing in the silkiness of her blonde hair.

“All these people are throwing themselves at us, for us to protect them, their city, and their families. We can’t do that ! We’re not Neo.”

Oz shook his head. “Even he can’t do that. He’s human, Kila. Like you and me. But, we’re these people last hope ! We can’t let them down. They won’t be able to fight. They won’t be able to stand against the Machines. We can. We can make them lose on their ground. So, we have to do it. It’s not a choice. It’s a destiny.”

“Destiny isn’t real.” She sighed, kissing his chest through the material of his shirt. He smiled, loving that feeling. She let him rock her slowly for a few minutes before pulling away from him, standing up. He looked at her from his place, putting a hand between his chocolate eyes and the proud sun.

“What’s the matter ?”

She shrugged, kicking a rock from under fer foot. “I talked with Trinity the other day. She really thinks that Neo and us can destruct the Matrix. But don’t you think that, if we do destruct it, the Machines will find another energy ? Or, maybe the humans won’t be able to survive in that world they destroyed.”

He bit his lip, a sign that he was furiously thinking. “Humans always adapted themselves to a world that wasn’t necessarily kind to them. It’s gonna be hard, of course. But, somehow, someday, they will win.”

He stood up, walking to her to put a hand on her shoulder. She leant on him, letting his muscled chest support her slender frame. “It’s beautiful, isn’t it ?” he asked, sh, showing the landscape before their eyes.

She nodded as her eyes took in everything. The waterfall, looking like moving crystal in front of them, the green grass, tickling their bare toes, the soft sky and hard sun.

“When you think that, it’s not real…” she began.

“It makes me want to burn all these Machines, bring all the humans into reality, and try to make that world, that did exist one day, relive before our eyes.”

She looked at him, a hand on his sleeve. “Oz. They covered up the sun. No sun, no plants, no flowers.”

He sighed deeply. “There’s always a way.”

She buried her head in his chest, smiling as his arms instinctively enveloped her tiny form, and shook her head. “You’ve got too much hope.”

“Isn’t that why you love me ?” he asked, a mischievous glint in his eyes.

She rolled her eyes and pulled away from him, sticking her tongue out.

He laughed. “How mature, Kila.”

“I know.” She shrugged.

“Don’t you think we should go back ?”

She ran a hand over her face, and frowned. “No. We didn’t finished our fight.”

He chuckled. “You sure you want that ?”

In answer, she threw a kick to his head, that he blocked easily with a fist. He launched himself backward in a flip, kicking her face. She snorted, breathing deeply. Her jaw was set, her eyes determined. She began a series of punches to his stomach, that he took without even a grunt. He was still smiling, and that fact was fuelling her rage. She ran on him, pushing him to the ground. He went down, and her with him. She sat up quickly, straddling him, and putting his hands over his head. “Seems like I’m the one who has the power here.” She said with a low voice, as her hair curtained them from the world.

Their mouths were approaching when his phone began to ring. “Yeah ?” he asked, picking up.

“Sentries are on our way. You two have to go back.”

“Okay. Call me back when we’re at the car.” The line went blank and he pushed Kila beside him.

“We’ot tot to go.”

She swore under her breath, but followed him as he walked to the car.
