Morpheus

Sleep

Vaako relaxed as he slid from the bed. Looking back, he saw his lord, well asleep. The dark skin faded into the gray sheets in the dark night. Vaako looked up to where the moonlight from the largest moon of this world shone through. Dragging a robe on, he tied it closed and walked from the room. The guards outside the door didn’t move as he spun about and closed the door. Walking across the floor, he stopped in front of his wife.

“My lord, how is he?” Dame Vaako stood, hands clasped before her.

“He dreams.” He replied as on hand brushed a strand of her hair back. “Call Lady Aereon, I do not like to leave him for long.”

“Go, Vaako, comfort our lord.”

One hand stroked her face, “And you?”

“He has rescued us, as much as my love is for you, I would not abandon him nor begrudge him any comfort he may seek. I am blessed that he has sought it with you. Go to him, chase away the dreams. I do not wonder why he no longer has a taste for women, especially after her. Go, our Vaako.” She pressed her hands against his chest, placing a kiss where the robe gaped.

Vaako bowed deeply, capturing her hand and placing a kiss in the palm. “With my thanks, my lady.”

Dame Vaako curtseied low, eyes cast down as her lord left to go back to his other lover. Rising in a swirl of skirts, she strode to the far door. Opening it, she headed deeper into the ship. She must get Lady Aereon.

A spear of light glinted off the mirrored eyes. Riddick watched as Vaako entered, as he shed his robe, as he climbed back into the bed.

“I did not mean to wake you, my Lord.”

“Vaako, why do you do this?”

“Because you need me, my lord. You... rescued us. It is my honor but do not think you have pressured me into this, my lord. It is a privilege and you are not... so unpleasing.”

A dark chuckled floated into the dark. “Really? And Dame Vaako?”

Vaako pressed closer to his lord, one arm resting on his chest. “She understands and always sends me back to you. My lord, the night is passing and if you will not sleep it becomes me to do my best to get you to sleep.”

“And what does that have to do with calling Lady Aereon?”

“Nothing my Lord, I merely wish to ask her if there is any way to detect the other Furians in our ranks that she knows of. Perhaps we can find some family for you?”

“Don’t worry about it.” Riddick rolled over and dragged him close. “So come let’s get sweaty.”

“Happily, my lord.” Vaako smiled as those mirrored eyes focused on him.
