Somewhere in Virginia lived a 19 year old girl. She comes from a rich family in which both her parents work. Her father owns a big movie company and her mother works for the government. Neither is home all that often, but their daughter, adopted daughter, doesn’t mind. Her name is Alex, an enigma to her family and others that know her. She has been raised in a rich family since she was born; her real mother gave her up to her ‘parents’ the day she was born, but she doesn’t act like most children brought up in a rich family. Alex isn’t a nice person, but she isn’t stuck up, that much is for sure. She likes to be alone more often than not and she hates most everyone. She dislikes shopping, unless its for books, movies, CDs, or anything else that isn’t clothes. She might go shopping for clothes once or twice a year, which in a family like hers is very odd.
Alex has pale skin, short layered black hair that stops just above her shoulders, and blue-green eyes. Her family owns a large house, or mansion to be exact, that is a good distance away from anyone else. When her parents are home from work they enjoy being away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the world because they’ve had to deal with it for a while and want a break, the nearest person is 10 minutes away and that’s only by driving. The night before her parents had left, one for Hollywood and the other for London, and both would be gone for several months. Even though her parents were gone Alex went about her normal routine. She got up, drove to school in one of her three cars (either her black Firebird, black Ferrari with acid green flames, or black S-10), came home, did her homework, and did random things until she went to bed.
For the first few weeks Alex did everything exactly the same as she did when her parents were around, except she was out wandering the house more instead of being in her room the whole time. Then on a Friday night Alex was sitting in their theater room watching Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition, one of her favorite movies of all time, when she heard a strange sound. It started out as a low roar, like several jets flying over the house, which wasn’t to uncommon, but it gradually got louder.
Frowning Alex got up and went upstairs. At first she was walking, but as the noise became louder and it felt like the house was shaking she began to run. She bolted through the house, jumping over furniture as she went. She ran to the back doors and pressed her face against the glass, but couldn’t see a thing. So she pulled the doors open, careful not to open them to hard, if she broke her mother’s French doors she’d be grounded for life. As she stepped outside her Husky, Indy, came bolting by and into the house. Alex watched him disappear around a corner, his tail between his legs.
Her frown deepened as she stepped outside, looking up at the dark sky. She still couldn’t see a thing, but the sound was starting to become unbearable. Alex winced, covering her ears with her hands, and continued to search the sky for the cause of the noise. Finally she spotted a set of lights, but their placement didn’t match any jet or plane she knew off. As the craft grew closer she had the sudden instinct to run. The hair on the back of her neck stood on end and she felt what she could only describe as an evil presence emanating from the craft.
Slowly Alex began to back up, her heart pounding in her chest and the voice in her head screaming for her to run, but she didn’t. She didn’t know what made her stay, but she did. Although something was telling her to run, something else was telling her to stay. Alex watched as the ship set down, the gust of air from the engines nearly knocking her over. As she looked the ship over in the dim light her eyes widened slightly in disbelief, she lowered her hands from her ears, she’d almost forgotten they were there, and rubbed her eyes. She stared at the ship, her mind suddenly blank, then a million questions burst into her head. She took another step back as the hatch lowered and a dark figure walked down the ramp.
Alex stared at the figure, her heart beating faster than ever now. Her eyes connected with his and she suddenly felt frozen, not to mention vulnerable. She felt like he was staring straight into her soul, like he was able to see all her secrets, and in a sense he was. He began walking toward her and as soon as he moved Alex did to. She turned and ran back toward her house, hoping to god she’d wake up from this dream, but she didn’t. Instead she was suddenly knocked to the ground and pinned there by an invisible force. For what seemed like an eternity, but was actually less than a minute, she listened to the approach of the dark figure.
Suddenly a pair of boots appeared in front of her face and the invisible force holding her down disappeared. Slowly Alex got to her feet, her heart still pounding in her chest. She looked up at the man before her and almost screamed, but she bit her lip. The man that now towered over her wasn’t supposed to exist, he was just a being created by one of the greatest directors in the world. The man that now stood before Alex in all his dark glory was none other than Darth Maul, Dark Lord of the Sith.
He stared down at Alex, his face emotionless, “you will aid me in repairing my ship…and tell me where I am.” Alex felt a tug on her mind, but with a shake of her head it left. Darth Maul sneered and tried yet again, “tell me where I am girl.” Alex blinked, momentarily forgetting how to speak. She nodded slowly, afraid if she made a sudden movement he’d kill her, “you’re…you’re on Earth…” Maul narrowed his eyes and growled, he grabbed the front of Alex’s shirt and hauled her to her feet. “Don’t try my patient’s girl! Now tell me where am I.” Alex had instinctively grabbed his hand, her small hands holding to his wrist. She took a shaky breath and tried to keep her voice from shaking as she spoke, “this is…this planets name is Earth…I’m not lying…I swear.”
Maul stared at her for a moment, searching her eyes. He nodded, finding that she wasn’t lying. He slowly let go of her shirt, but only after Alex had released his wrist. He looked around, then back to Alex, who was staring at his ship. Just as Maul was about to speak, Alex interrupted him, causing him to clench his fists and teeth in anger. “What’s wrong with your ship?” she asked looking back up at him. Maul frowned slightly, but with a sigh spoke, “the hyper drive was damaged along with some of the navigation systems…” Alex frowned and scratched her head, biting her lower lip, “well…I hate to tell you this, but we don’t have the parts you need on this planet...at least I don’t think we do. Ships like the Infiltrator don’t exist here so…”
Suddenly Alex realized what she’d said and she glanced fearfully to Maul. His eyes narrowed and he grabbed her shirt again, bringing her close to his face. “How do you know the name of my ship?” Alex swallowed hard and closed her eyes, thinking about everything she knew about Star Wars. She didn’t know why she did that, but something told her that if she did he would understand, plus it would save her a lot of breath. Unknown to her, Maul had been searching her mind for an answer and when she began thinking of the Star Wars universe he was hit with all the information. His grip on her shirt loosened and after a moment he released her. He stared at her, his face emotionless. Slowly Alex opened her eyes to find Maul staring at her. She smiled weakly and scratched the back of her head. “So…um…yeah…we don’t have the parts to fix your ship…”
Maul’s face remained emotionless and Alex felt terrible. It was strange, most people would be scared out of their mind to see him, let alone be this close to him, but Alex wasn’t, she felt strangely comfortable around him. She frowned slightly and looked down at the grass for a moment. Suddenly a thought hit her and she snapped her fingers, looking up at Maul, smiling. He’d turned away from her by now and was staring at her ship, his hands folded in his robes. She took a step toward him and tapped him on the shoulder lightly. “Ya know…we might be able to fix your ship…granted it may take a while…but we should be able to do it…”
Once she was finished speaking Maul whirled around, an angry fire burning in his eyes. He took a step toward her so that his face was mere inches away from hers and his hot breath was fanning her face. Alex gasped and froze where she stood, barely even breathing, and she stared him straight in the eye. “What is this we, you speak of? You know nothing of my ship nor of the parts that I need!” By the time he’d finished Alex had bowed her head, avoiding his eyes. At first Maul didn’t catch it, but he suddenly felt the wave of anger coming of Alex. His eyes widened slightly, but he didn’t move. Alex looked up sharply, an angry fire shining in her eyes. “Fine then! I offered to help you because…well that doesn’t really matter, but I’m the only one around for miles and I’m definitely the only one willing to help you. But since you want to be a stuck up prick then fine by me! I’ve got better things to do than worry about some Dark Lord of the Sith!”
With that Alex turned on her heel and sprinted back to the house. She was several yards from her back porch when she ran into something very solid. She fell backwards, but before she hit the ground a hand caught her wrist before she hit the ground. She was pulled back to her feet and looked up to find Maul staring down at her. She glared up at him and tried to pull her wrist from his grip, but was only rewarded with a chuckle. She frowned, “what’s so funny? If I were you I wouldn’t be laughing, after all you have no way to get home and.” “Oh, but I do, you offered me your help and I never refused it nor did you withdraw it so…” Alex opened her mouth to say something, but nothing came out. After a moment Maul released her wrist and she stared at him for a moment, then led him inside.
That night was definitely the weirdest night in the life of Alex Marshall ever, but the weirdness had only just started. After she’d had a long talk with Maul, which involved a lot of yelling at one another and several items being broken, she put him in one of the guest rooms. The room was right beside Alex’s and it was connected to her bathroom. Normally Alex would have her guests stay in the room down the hall, mainly because she disliked sharing her bathroom and that such thing, but she didn’t want him to far from her. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust him, in a sense she didn’t because he was evil while she…well Alex didn’t know where she was on the good-evil scale, but she was afraid he’d either break something or hurt himself. In his world he probably wouldn’t have hurt himself on something very simple, but in Alex’s world who knew what could happen.
As Alex drifted to sleep her mind was filled with worries about what she was going to do now and also filled with one of the most evil men to have ever been dreamt up. In the room beside her Maul couldn’t sleep. All he could think about was how he was going to fix his ship and what would happen when he returned home to his Master, but he was also thinking of the girl that lay asleep in the room next to him. Never before had Maul encountered a creature such as her, she feared him and yet at the same time she didn’t. She had yelled in his face and she during that time she hadn’t felt any fear. With a sigh Maul closed his eyes to at least try and fall asleep.
